Colts acquired DL Billy Winn from the Browns for a conditional seventh-round draft pick in 2017.

The Browns are expected to use Winn's vacancy to promote RB Shaun Draughn from the practice squad. A sixth-round pick in the 2012 draft, Winn is 26 years old and entering the final year of his rookie deal. When healthy, he has been an effective rotational run stopper also capable of sporadically pushing the pocket.

Winn was carted off the field at Saturday's training camp practice. The Browns have diagnosed Winn with a routine ankle sprain. The 26-year-old logged 313 snaps as Ahtyba Rubin's backup at left end last season.

The new Browns' coaching staff "loves" 2012 sixth-round pick Billy Winn and believes he "easily" can play defensive end in Ray Horton's 3-4.

It should be noted that numerous NFL scouts considered Winn a potential late first-round prospect before a relatively underwhelming senior year at Boise State. 23-year-old Winn showed well as a rookie, coming on very strong as a run defender down the stretch. He'll likely be Cleveland's right end in the new 3-4, with Ahtyba Rubin at left end and Phil Taylor manning the nose.

Sixth-round rookie Billy Winn started alongside Ahtyba Rubin at defensive right tackle in Week 1.

Winn played 65-of-95 snaps (68.4 percent) compared to 33 for third-rounder John Hughes. Winn more than held his own for a surprisingly stout defensive front, led by a dominant Rubin, that was in the Eagles backfield throughout the game.

Browns sixth-round DT Billy Winn reportedly displayed "better athleticism and technique than expected" in offseason practices.

Winn was ranked as a mid-round talent by some evaluators, so it's no surprise that he exceeded expectations in non-contact practices. With NT Phil Taylor (torn pectoral) out for the first half of the season, Winn will push Scott Paxson and third-rounder John Hughes for significant snaps up front.

Browns agreed to terms with No. 205 overall pick DT Billy Winn on a four-year contract.

Winn was ranked as a third-round value by ESPN's Todd McShay and PFW's Nolan Nawrocki, but slid in the draft to work ethic and "tweener" concerns. Boasting above-average athleticism for a 6'4", 294-pound tackle, Winn may beat third-rounder John Hughes to the punch in replacing Phil Taylor (torn pectoral).

Browns selected Boise State DT Billy Winn with the No. 205 overall pick in the 2012 NFL draft.

Standing at 6'4/294, Winn has a good build and is quick, but there have been questions about his work ethic. He'll step in as a reserve on Cleveland's defensive line. The Browns also added John Hughes to the defensive tackle position back in Round 3.
