Patriots signed WR Jeremy Ebert and LB Jeff Tarpinian to reserve/future contracts.

A seventh-round pick last spring, Ebert couldn't make it past final cuts in Pats camp. He spent the year on the practice squad. Ebert's chances of cracking the Pats' 2013 roster will improve if Wes Welker is allowed to walk. Tarpinian was briefly on the active roster in 2012.

Patriots waived or released WR Jeremy Ebert, DL Marcus Harrison, WR Jesse Holley, OL Jeremiah Warren, OL Matt Kopa, Niko Koutouvides, S Derrick Martin, LB Jeff Tarpinian, FB Eric Kettani, DL Aaron Lavarias, TE Alex Silvestro, WR Kerry Taylor, OL Derek Dennis, TE Tyler Urban, OL Dustin Waldron, OL Darrion Weems and S Malcolm Williams.

Ebert couldn't make the roster even though New England also cut veterans Deion Branch, Donte' Stallworth and Jabar Gaffney. Slowed by a hamstring injury early in camp, Ebert made just six catches for 43 yards during the preseason. He's likely ticketed for the practice squad.

Patriots placed seventh-round WR Jeremy Ebert (hamstring) on the camp/PUP list.

It's New England, so the severity of the injury is unknown. Ebert is a seventh-round rookie out of Northwestern. With less game tape for the rest of the NFL to see, the Pats would have a better chance of sneaking Ebert through waivers and onto the practice squad if he missed preseason action.

ESPN Boston gives seventh-round WR Jeremy Ebert a 15 percent chance of making the Patriots' 53-man roster.

New England's receiver corps is perhaps the most crowded in the league, and Ebert wasn't allowed to participate in OTAs because he had yet to graduate. He was also "slowed" in minicamp by a leg injury. Ebert could flip his poor odds with a strong preseason, but he's likely destined for the practice squad.

The Boston Herald expects Patriots seventh-round WR Jeremy Ebert to begin the year on the practice squad.

Unless a wave of injures befall the Pats' receiver corps, Ebert has almost no chance of locking down a roster spot. His most direct competition will be backup slot receiver Julian Edelman, but Edelman's special teams prowess and ability to play cornerback in a pinch should give him a significant edge.

Patriots signed seventh-round WR Jeremy Ebert to a four-year contract.

The deal included a $48,200 signing bonus. An undersized speed demon with 173 college catches, Ebert projects as a potential slot receiver and special teams player down the road. He'll likely open his career on the practice squad.

Patriots selected Northwestern WR Jeremy Ebert with the No. 235 overall pick in the 2012 NFL draft.

At 5'10/194, the undersized Ebert will look to carve out a role in the NFL as a slot receiver. The Northwestern product caught 173 balls in college and had a strong on-campus workout, highlighted by a sub-4.4 40-yard dash. Ebert will step into a crowded wide receiver unit that already features possession receivers Wes Welker, Anthony Gonzalez, and Julian Edelman. He'll look to make the team as a special teams contributor.
