Colts placed OLB Cam Johnson on injured reserve with a triceps injury, ending his season.

He went down in Sunday's loss to the Broncos. The injury further thins the Colts' ranks at outside linebacker after suspended star Robert Mathis tore his Achilles' tendon last week. For now, Indy will go forward with Bjoern Werner, Erik Walden and Jonathan Newsome as its top three outside 'backers.

Colts OLB Cam Johnson left Sunday night's opener with an elbow injury and will not return.

Johnson was part of the Colts' linebacker rotation with Robert Mathis suspended. Jonathan Newsome will get the majority of work behind Bjoern Werner and Erik Walden in his absence.

Colts re-signed exclusive rights free agent OLB Cam Johnson to a one-year, $495,000 contract.

It's news when a team doesn't re-sign an exclusive rights free agent. Acquired from the 49ers last September, Johnson played 100 snaps on defense. He'll have to re-earn his spot on the 53-man roster this summer.

49ers traded OLB Cam Johnson to the Colts for a conditional 2014 seventh-round pick.

Johnson, a seventh-rounder out of Virginia in 2012, earned a spot on the 53-man roster with two sacks and a blocked punt he recovered for a touchdown in the preseason finale. But with WR Chris Harper coming aboard, the Niners needed to clear a roster spot. Dan Skuta is capable of filling the fourth linebacker duties in San Francisco. Johnson will give the Colts another 3-4 edge rusher behind Robert Mathis, Erik Walden and rookie Bjoern Werner.

49ers promoted OLB Cam Johnson from the practice squad.

A seventh-round pick last April, Johnson will be making his NFL debut if he's active for Sunday's showdown with Seattle. He should be limited to special teams. Considered a high-ceiling talent, Johnson should get every opportunity to earn a roster spot next summer.

49ers seventh-round OLB Cam Johnson (knee surgery) returned to practice on Tuesday.

Already entering the league with a red flag attached to his knee, Johnson had a surgical procedure not long after the draft and has rarely practiced with the team. Johnson's return is a good sign, but he's still very much on the roster bubble.

49ers OLB Cam Johnson is recovering from a "procedure" on his knee.

The Niners expect Johnson back by training camp, so it sounds like a routine, cleanup surgery. Coach Jim Harbaugh revealed that Johnson came out of Virginia with a bit of a knee red flag. He'll be on the roster bubble this August.

49ers signed No. 237 overall pick DE Cam Johnson to a four-year contract.

Johnson was the No. 50 overall prospect on in the pre-draft rankings of NFL Network's Mike Mayock, and was chosen one of the top late-round value picks by NFL Network's Michael Lombardi. He slid due to concerns that he's an NFL "tweener" without elite college production. Johnson will be a development project for the 49ers.

49ers selected Virginia DE Cam Johnson with the No. 237 overall pick in the 2012 NFL draft.

A three-year starter, Johnson played outside linebacker before shifting to defensive end as a senior. Johnson has plus athleticism for his size (6-foot-3, 268 pounds), but suffers from sickle cell trait, which can affect a player's energy level. He's also faced questions about his effort. He's a high-ceiling pick, but will be less than 50-50 to make the Niners roster.
