Chargers signed seventh-round RB Edwin Baker to a four-year contract.

A former top high school recruit, Baker looked posed for stardom as a sophomore before his production sank as a junior playing behind Le’Veon Bell. Baker goes 5-foot-8, 202 with surprising pop for a small man and 4.45-4.47 speed. He has a significant talent edge on incumbent third-stringer Curtis Brinkley.

Chargers selected Michigan State RB Edwin Baker with the No. 250 overall pick in the 2012 NFL draft.

Once considered one of the better power backs in the draft, Baker likely fell off many draft boards due to his nine collegiate fumbles and poor 3.9 senior year yards-per-carry mark. Standing at 5'8/204, Baker will look to carve out a role as a reserve tailback, but he has almost no pass-catching experience and will need to overcome a lack of speed and poor elusiveness.
