CSN Washington doesn’t consider S Duke Ihenacho a lock for the 53-man roster.

Ihenacho was tendered by the Redskins despite spending all but three games on I.R. last year. With Dashon Goldson and Jeron Johnson locked in as starters, he’s competing with Phillip Thomas, Trenton Robinson, and sixth-rounder Kyshoen Jarrett for backup duties. Ihenacho needs to prove he’s over his health issues to return as Washington’s No. 3 safety.

Redskins re-signed exclusive rights free agent S Duke Ihenacho to a one-year, $660,000 contract.

Ihenacho, 26 in June, played five snaps last season before fracturing his heel in Week 3. A "box" safety, Ihenacho may be a candidate for a real role in 2015 with both FS Ryan Clark and SS Brandon Meriweather free agents.

Redskins claimed SS Duke Ihenacho off waivers from the Broncos.

Ihenacho lost his role in Denver to T.J. Ward and then couldn't beat out Quinton Carter. But he could have a real role in Washington's annually leaky back end. Ihenacho started 18-of-19 games for the Broncos last year (including playoffs), holding up well against the run.

Broncos tendered exclusive rights free agent S Duke Ihenacho.

Ihenacho opened last season starting at strong safety, but his playing time was scaled back down the stretch due to struggles in coverage. He also was fairly disappointing as a run defender considering that is theoretically his strength. In an ideal world, Ihenacho would focus on special teams in 2014.
