Seahawks CB Deshawn Shead (reserve/PUP, knee) could return in Week 7.
Coach Pete Carroll says Shead is "progressing well" in his recovery. Shead is out for at least the next four games, but has a chance to be activated when first eligible. With Jeremy Lane struggling, Shead should regain his starting role when healthy. Sep 22 - 7:30 PM

Seahawks placed CB Deshawn Shead (knee) on reserve/PUP.

Shead is still working his way back from a shredded ACL suffered in the playoffs last year. Rookie Shaq Griffin and Jeremy Lane will pitch in as the Seahawks' Nos. 2 and 3 corners behind shutdown LCB Richard Sherman.

The Tacoma News Tribune believes Seahawks RCB Deshawn Shead (ACL) could be sidelined "well into" the regular season.

Coach Pete Carroll has already said Shead is unlikely to be ready for Week 1. Now it sounds like he's a candidate for the reserve/PUP list, which would cost him a minimum of six games. Third-rounder Shaq Griffin is expected to take Shead's place on the boundary while Jeremy Lane remains in the slot.
Jul 4 - 4:37 PM

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll reiterated RCB Deshawn Shead (ACL) is unlikely to be ready for Week 1.

"I don't think so, I don't think we'll be pushing that," said Carroll. Shead tore his ACL in the Divisional Round after a breakout season opposite Richard Sherman. Jeremy Lane is markered in as Shead's replacement in the starting lineup, but Lane covers the slot in sub-packages. The Seahawks need third-round pick Shaq Griffin to step up as a starter at the other boundary position.

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said he would be "really surprised" if CB Deshawn Shead (ACL) is ready for Week 1.

Shead tore his ACL in the Divisional Round. It is not surprising Shead is doubtful for Week 1, but it is surprising the notoriously optimistic Carroll would admit as much. It is possible Shead opens the season on the PUP. Especially with Richard Sherman's future suddenly in question, the Seahawks need some help at corner.

Seahawks re-signed CB Deshawn Shead to a one-year, $1.5 million contract with $1 million guaranteed.

Tight end Luke Willson is also back on a one-year deal. Shead tested the market after the Seahawks non-tendered him, but he didn't draw much interest. The only visit he took was with Buffalo. Shead is just two months removed from tearing his left ACL in the playoffs. It's hard to imagine him being ready for Week 1.

The Bills are hosting CB Deshawn Shead for a free agent visit.

Shead enjoyed a breakout 2016 season, only to tear his left ACL and meniscus in the Divisional Round and fail to receive a restricted free agent tender from Seattle. Before essentially cutting him loose, the Seahawks expressed major concern about the stability of Shead's knee. The Bills are paper thin at corner after letting Steph Gilmore walk and cutting Nickell Robey-Coleman.

The Seahawks will not tender an offer to restricted free agent CB Deshawn Shead, making him a free agent.

Shead was a starter in 2016, but tore his ACL in the Divisional Round. The Seahawks are either confident they can re-sign him for less than the "low" tender of $1.797 million, or are ready to let him walk. Shead held his own opposite Richard Sherman, but was not an impact player. Seahawks GM John Schneider has labeled cornerback an offseason priority.
Mar 7 - 2:28 PM

Seahawks GM John Schneider doesn't expect restricted free agent RCB Deshawn Shead (ACL) to be ready for Week 1.

It's not a surprise after Shead tore his left ACL on January 14. It's also an untimely injury for Shead, who might have drawn interest on the restricted free agent market were he healthy. He'll now be easy for Seattle to retain. Schneider confirmed cornerback has become one of the Seahawks' top priorities.
Mar 1 - 12:50 PM

Seahawks restricted free agent RCB Deshawn Shead recently underwent ACL surgery.

While the surgery will make Shead easier for the Seahawks to retain in restricted free agency, it puts his status for Week 1 in question and makes cornerback an offseason need for Seattle. 28-year-old Shead turned in a breakout 2016 campaign opposite Richard Sherman, racking up 81 tackles and 14 breakups with two forced turnovers. Shead still figures to land a second-round tender.

Jan 27 - 11:25 PM

Coach Pete Carroll confirmed RCB Deshawn Shead suffered a "really significant" knee injury in the Divisional Round loss to the Falcons.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Shead will undergo surgery to repair a torn ACL. "It’s going to take him a really long time," Carroll added without saying what Shead's injury is specifically. But it doesn't sound like Shead is dealing with only an ACL tear. He's likely to open camp on the PUP list.
Jan 16 - 1:09 PM

Speaking after Saturday's playoff loss, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll admitted the team feared a torn left ACL for RCB Deshawn Shead.

Shead went down in non-contact fashion in the second half, and it had the looks of a significant injury from the get-go. Completing his first year as a full-time starter, the injury could not have come at a worse time for Shead, who is a restricted free agent. He's now a candidate for a low/original-round tender as a former UDFA. Going on 29, Shead isn't exactly a spring chicken, either. He was reasonably effective this season, but might not even be tendered a contract.
Jan 14 - 8:25 PM

Seahawks RCB Deshawn Shead suffered a non-contact left knee injury in Saturday's Divisional Round game against the Falcons.

The Seahawks' No. 2 corner, Shead went down in a heap trying to break up a pass. He tried to walk it off on the sideline before being carted to the locker room. UDFA DeAndre Elliott is now in the game behind Richard Sherman and Jeremy Lane. Shead is a huge loss for the already banged up Seahawks.
Jan 14 - 6:15 PM

Seahawks RCB Deshawn Shead (hamstring) will be a game-time decision for Week 12.

Shead did very little in practice this week, but coach Pete Carroll said that he had an "extraordinary" workout on Friday and Shead "looked explosive." One of the NFL's most underrated corners, Shead has been having a breakout season. Shead wins with length and physicality at 6-foot-1, 220.

Seahawks RCB Deshawn Shead left Sunday's Week 11 game with a hamstring injury.

After the game, coach Pete Carroll said Shead's hamstring began acting up on Saturday. The Seahawks pulled him out on Sunday when the hamstring was aggravated. It sounds like an injury that might cost Shead a game or two. Although Richard Sherman deservedly garners most of the headlines, Shead is having a great year. FS Earl Thomas also pulled his hamstring against the Eagles.
