Lions signed CB Deshawn Shead, formerly of the Seahawks, to a one-year, $3.5 million contract.
Recovering from ACL surgery, Shead can earn another $3 million through playing-time incentives. Shead was decent for the Seahawks in 2016. With Quandre Diggs seemingly converting to safety, Shead would have a leg up on No. 3 cornerback duties in Detroit. Mar 14 - 6:41 PM

Free agent CB Deshawn Shead will visit the 49ers on Wednesday.

He visited Detroit on Tuesday. The Niners signed Shead's former Seahawks teammate Richard Sherman over the weekend and apparently they aren't done adding to their secondary. Shead was limited to just two games last season following a lengthy recovery from ACL surgery.

ESPN's Brady Henderson reports Deshawn Shead "has a visit lined up" with the Lions.

Shead tore his ACL at the end of 2016 and struggled to work his way back in 2017, playing in only two games. The Lions are looking for a cornerback to pair with Darius Slay. They had a meeting lined up with Shead's former teammate Richard Sherman but he opted to sign with the 49ers. Shead played well in 2016 and would improve the Lions secondary.

ESPN's Brady Henderson reports the Seahawks will release CB DeShawn Shead on Monday.

Per Henderson, the Seahawks still have interest in re-signing Shead but are honoring their initial promise that he would become a free agent, even though his contract tolled after missing most of 2017 with a torn ACL. Shead joins Richard Sherman and Jeremy Lane among the Legion of Boom members released this offseason.

The Seahawks could use free agent DB Deshawn Shead at safety if he's re-signed for 2018.

The Seahawks' starting right corner in 2016, Shead missed all of 2017 with a torn ACL. The 2012 UDFA has dabbled at safety in the past.

Seahawks activated CB Deshawn Shead (knee) from the reserve/PUP list.

Shead missed 11 months recovering from ACL surgery. He's expected to be active Sunday but may be limited to special teams. With Richard Sherman (Achilles) on IR, Shead should eventually push for a role in the secondary.

Seahawks CB Deshawn Shead (knee, PUP) returned to practice on Wednesday.

The Seahawks now have three weeks to either activate him from the PUP list or place him on season-ending I.R. Shead has spent most of the year recovering from a torn ACL he suffered during a playoff game in January. He's expected to miss Sunday's game at Jacksonville but could be on hand for Week 15 against the Rams.

Seahawks CB Deshawn Shead (knee, PUP) could return to practice next week.

Shead has been in a holding pattern the last few weeks, but the Seahawks are hoping he can make a late season return. With Richard Sherman out for the year, Shead will have a role when healthy.

Seahawks CB Deshawn Shead (reserve/PUP, knee) could return in Week 7.

Coach Pete Carroll says Shead is "progressing well" in his recovery. Shead is out for at least the next four games, but has a chance to be activated when first eligible. With Jeremy Lane struggling, Shead should regain his starting role when healthy.

Seahawks placed CB Deshawn Shead (knee) on reserve/PUP.

Shead is still working his way back from a shredded ACL suffered in the playoffs last year. Rookie Shaq Griffin and Jeremy Lane will pitch in as the Seahawks' Nos. 2 and 3 corners behind shutdown LCB Richard Sherman.

The Tacoma News Tribune believes Seahawks RCB Deshawn Shead (ACL) could be sidelined "well into" the regular season.

Coach Pete Carroll has already said Shead is unlikely to be ready for Week 1. Now it sounds like he's a candidate for the reserve/PUP list, which would cost him a minimum of six games. Third-rounder Shaq Griffin is expected to take Shead's place on the boundary while Jeremy Lane remains in the slot.

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll reiterated RCB Deshawn Shead (ACL) is unlikely to be ready for Week 1.

"I don't think so, I don't think we'll be pushing that," said Carroll. Shead tore his ACL in the Divisional Round after a breakout season opposite Richard Sherman. Jeremy Lane is markered in as Shead's replacement in the starting lineup, but Lane covers the slot in sub-packages. The Seahawks need third-round pick Shaq Griffin to step up as a starter at the other boundary position.

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said he would be "really surprised" if CB Deshawn Shead (ACL) is ready for Week 1.

Shead tore his ACL in the Divisional Round. It is not surprising Shead is doubtful for Week 1, but it is surprising the notoriously optimistic Carroll would admit as much. It is possible Shead opens the season on the PUP. Especially with Richard Sherman's future suddenly in question, the Seahawks need some help at corner.

Seahawks re-signed CB Deshawn Shead to a one-year, $1.5 million contract with $1 million guaranteed.

Tight end Luke Willson is also back on a one-year deal. Shead tested the market after the Seahawks non-tendered him, but he didn't draw much interest. The only visit he took was with Buffalo. Shead is just two months removed from tearing his left ACL in the playoffs. It's hard to imagine him being ready for Week 1.

The Bills are hosting CB Deshawn Shead for a free agent visit.

Shead enjoyed a breakout 2016 season, only to tear his left ACL and meniscus in the Divisional Round and fail to receive a restricted free agent tender from Seattle. Before essentially cutting him loose, the Seahawks expressed major concern about the stability of Shead's knee. The Bills are paper thin at corner after letting Steph Gilmore walk and cutting Nickell Robey-Coleman.
