Vikings RB Joe Banyard rushed twice for two yards in Sunday's Week 15 loss to the Lions.
Banyard was the Vikings' No. 3 back in this one, playing behind Matt Asiata and Ben Tate and struggling. Although athletically-gifted Banyard may be a better running back prospect than given credit for long term, he'll carry zero fantasy value into a Week 16 date with the Dolphins. Dec 14 - 7:33 PM

The Vikings scaled back Joe Banyard's role in their Week 13 offense after he blew a blitz pickup in the second quarter.

Banyard was the Vikings' most efficient running back in Week 12, but only played five offensive snaps in Sunday's win over Carolina because he got benched for the blown pass protection. Matt Asiata did the heavylifting, and Ben Tate mixed in for a few snaps. The Vikings will hope to get Jerick McKinnon (back) healthy for their Week 14 meeting with the Jets.

Joe Banyard rushed for eight yards on two carries in the Vikings' Week 13 win over the Panthers.

Banyard had a solid Week 12, picking up 45 yards on eight touches, but he was relegated to No. 3 duties with Matt Asiata back in the mix and Ben Tate handling the No. 2 role with Jerick McKinnon out. Those who picked Banyard up can safely drop him ahead of a Week 14 date with the Jets.

The Minneapolis Star-Tribune's Matt Vensel considers the Vikings' Week 13 backfield distribution "unclear" with Jerick McKinnon (back) not playing against the Panthers.

Joe Banyard was the only Vikings back left who played last week, gaining 45 yards on eight touches in a loss to Green Bay. He outplayed McKinnon, while Matt Asiata (concussion) was inactive and Ben Tate didn't play at all. Asiata is probably the favorite for playing time against Carolina, but Banyard arguably earned more work. Tate is superfluous on the roster at this point.
Nov 28 - 3:26 PM

Vikings signed RB Joe Banyard off their practice squad.

With Adrian Peterson inactive, the Vikings needed more bodies in the backfield. Banyard will slot in behind starter Matt Asiata and Jerick McKinnon. Banyard had 212 yards on 36 carries this preseason.

Vikings waived RB Joe Banyard.

Vikings promoted RB Joe Banyard from the practice squad.

It's a sign that either Adrian Peterson (foot) or Toby Gerhart (hamstring) won't play this week. Banyard will provide insurance with Matt Asiata the only other healthy running back on the Vikings' roster.

Vikings waived RB Joe Banyard.

Banyard had a nice preseason, rushing for 115 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries (5.2 YPC). It wasn't enough to beat out Matt Asiata for No. 3 duties.

Saints released RB Joe Banyard with an injury settlement.

Banyard was signed as an undrafted free agent out of UTEP by the Jaguars in April but was waived then signed by New Orleans in June. Even if healthy, he was an extreme long shot to make the Saints' 53-man roster.

Saints signed RB Joe Banyard to a three-year contract.

Banyard (5-11/213) was waived by Jacksonville last month after going undrafted out of UTEP. He rushed for 867 yards with six TDs on 127 carries as a senior. Although Banyard impressed at last week's tryout, he's an extreme long shot to make the final roster.

Undrafted Elon ILB Joshua Jones was signed in a corresponding move. An undrafted free agent out of UTEP, Banyard never had a chance of cracking the Jaguars' 53.
