Colts FS Delano Howell's neck injury is not believed to be career-ending.

Howell has spent much of the week in Minneapolis meeting with a specialist to determine the next course of action. The Colts will talk to the doctors Friday. Howell remains out indefinitely. Mike Adams is filling in next to LaRon Landry.

Colts FS Delano Howell has been battling a neck injury the past two weeks, leaving his status for the season in question.

Howell spent the final ten games of last season on I.R. with a neck issue. He's visited multiple experts the past two weeks and plans to talk to another specialist this week. GM Ryan Grigson hinted at a heightened level of concern for Howell, saying Howell will talk "with his wife and his agent." As we've seen, the neck is a tricky situation in the NFL. It's hard to gain clearance. If Howell is to miss time, veteran Mike Adams would step in next to LaRon Landry.

Delano Howell is penciled in as the Colts' starting free safety for 2014.

Antoine Bethea primarily played free safety for Indy last year, racking up 110 tackles behind the Colts' leaky defensive front seven. LaRon Landry was mostly a strong safety in 2013, though he did play "center field" often in the playoffs. Howell's role should be very similar to Bethea's, putting him on the IDP radar.

ESPN's Mike Wells believes safety is the Colts' biggest priority in next week's draft.

LaRon Landry is firmly planted at strong safety, but there is a hole opposite him. Former UDFA S Delano Howell handled himself well in three spot starts last season, but he is best suited as a reserve. The top safeties will be gone by the time the Colts make their first pick at No. 59 overall. Florida State S Terrence Brooks is a solid option that may still be on the board.

Colts GM Ryan Grigson identified S Delano Howell as a potential starter this season.

After losing Antoine Bethea in free agency, the Colts have a hole opposite LaRon Landry. Howell handled himself well in three spot-starts last year, but he's a 2012 undrafted free agent that would be a stretch as a 16-game starter. Grigson will be looking at safeties in May's draft.

Colts placed S Delano Howell on injured reserve with a foot injury, ending his season.

Howell had been sidelined since Week 6. Howell had been active for all six games before getting hurt, making three starts in place of an injured LaRon Landry. A second-year undrafted free agent out of Stanford, Howell will be back to push for a roster spot next summer. He's not a starting-caliber player.

Colts SS Delano Howell suffered a left foot injury in Wednesday's practice.

Howell has started the last two games with LaRon Landry (ankle) sidelined. He was spotted in a walking boot following practice and could now be in jeopardy of missing this week's game against the Seahawks.

Colts signed S Delano Howell off the Bills' practice squad.

Strong safety Tom Zbikowski left last week's win over the Bills with a shin injury. If he can't go this week, Howell can step in as depth and help on special teams. He's an undrafted rookie out of Stanford.

Undrafted FS Delano Howell is "making a push" for a spot on the Bills' final roster.

Howell reportedly "flashed" in training camp, and is competing with former Georgia Tech QB Josh Nesbitt for the backup free safety job. Da'Norris Searcy and LB/SS Bryan Scott are locks for the 53-man roster.
