49ers hired former Raiders WR Ronald Curry as an offensive assistant.
The former North Carolina point guard's NFL playing career is officially over at age 33. Curry, a 2002 seventh-round pick, made a successful return from two Achilles' tendon tears en route to a solid seven-year career, catching 193 passes for 2,347 yards (12.2 YPR) and 13 career touchdowns. He finished as a top-50 fantasy receiver twice and had his best season in 2004 (50/679/6). Mon, May 6, 2013 05:54:00 PM

In addition to David Tyree, the Ravens reportedly tried out free agent Ronald Curry on Monday.

Curry, 30, didn't make the Rams out of training camp. Baltimore currently has just four wideouts on its active roster, so he's an option to bolster depth.

Rams released WR Ronald Curry.

The Rams acquired the veteran receiver from the Lions back in July for DT Orien Harris. St. Louis will go with a slew of young talent at the receiver spot.

A veteran NFL personnel man told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that Ronald Curry "has lost a step," but is still "more than just a possession receiver."

Well, a possession guy is what the Rams need opposite deep threat Donnie Avery. Ideally, Curry will emerge as the starting flanker and move to the slot on obvious passing downs, with Robinson coming in opposite Avery outside. That would give the Rams rare speed on the offensive perimeter.

Rams acquired WR Ronald Curry from the Lions in exchange for DT Orien Harris.

Curry immediately becomes a serious candidate to start opposite Donnie Avery. Curry's competition is Keenan Burton, who the Rams may have soured on after a lost spring due to hamstring woes, and speedster Laurent Robinson. Assuming he's over his drop-filled 2008 season, Curry profiles well into new coordinator Pat Shurmur's West Coast offense as a heady wideout with a nice frame (6'2/210) and the ability to play all three receiver positions. Both players here were on the roster bubble with their old clubs.

The recent acquisition of Dennis Northcutt reportedly bodes poorly for Ronald Curry's chances of making the Lions.

They're both competing at slot receiver. Curry should still have a decent shot to make it because he can be effective outside. It wouldn't even be surprising to see Curry give Bryant Johnson a hard training camp push to start.

New signee Ronald Curry was at Lions minicamp practice Saturday, and will be used as a slot receiver.

Scott Linehan uses a lot of three receiver sets, although he hasn't had any guys truly break out in a slot role. Curry was a nice signing and could out-produce Bryant Johnson if he stays healthy, but that doesn't mean he'll make a huge fantasy impact.

Lions signed WR Ronald Curry to a one-year contract.

Curry, 30, battled injuries and finished '08 with only 19 catches in Oakland. Drops have also been an issue, but Curry can play the slot and both outside positions. He'll get a shot to line up between Calvin and Bryant Johnson in three-receiver sets, and possibly push the latter to start. Curry has experience with Daunte Culpepper and should benefit going to a dome.

The Lions are reportedly hosting free agent WR Ronald Curry on Wednesday.

The oft-injured Curry could be a fantasy sleeper in the right situation, though landing in Detroit would limit his potential. The unsettled quarterback situation is going to hurt. Still, with little receiving depth, Curry would be a worthwhile low-cost signing for Detroit.

Raiders released WR Ronald Curry.

Curry won't draw a big contract on the open market because of his injury history, but he's a more attractive fantasy commodity outside of Oakland. He had back-to-back 700-yard seasons as recently as 2006 and 2007 and could be a quality option in the right offense. The Raiders are rumored to be bringing back Jerry Porter.

NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports the Raiders will release Ronald Curry on Wednesday.

The Raiders will save $2.3M in cap space and could also free up $7.2M by releasing tackle Kwame Harris. Curry was exceptionally brittle early in his career, but he's stayed healthy since '05 and has the talent to post quality numbers in the right scenario.

Ronald Curry (turf toe) is expected to miss the Raiders' season finale.

Curry will finish the year with only 19 catches for 181 yards (9.5 YPC) and two TDs after back-to-back solid campaigns in 2006 and 2007. The Raiders are expected to consider cutting Curry in February, although their lack of depth and experience at receiver could ultimately keep him around. He certainly would be far more attractive from a fantasy standpoint in another jersey.

The Oakland Raiders have declared QB Andrew Walter, CB Derrick Brown, DL Greyson Gunheim, OL James Marten, C John Wade, RB Louis Rankin, LB Ricky Brown, WR Ronald Curry inactive for Week 16.

Curry wasn't expected to play this week as he's battling turf toe.

The seventh-year receiver will be inactive against the Texans.
