NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports 49ers TE Garrett Celek's four-year deal is worth $14 million, and includes "nearly" $5 million guaranteed.
It's a nice chunk of change, but blocker money for a team that also has Vance McDonald and Blake Bell. Celek could still end up doubling his 27 career catches in 2016, but is unlikely to emerge as a fantasy option. Feb 23 - 4:18 PM

49ers re-signed TE Garrett Celek to a four-year contract.

Celek had been headed to unrestricted free agency. Limited to 11 games by a high-ankle sprain last season, Celek made eight starts, catching 19 passes. Celek is primarily a blocker, and had just 27 career grabs in 39 games. Although Vance McDonald and Blake Bell will likely vie to be Chip Kelly's primary pass catcher at tight end, Celek should see heavy snaps as a blocker.

ESPN's Adam Caplan reports the 49ers and free agent TE Garrett Celek are "close to finalizing" a long-term contract.

Much like his older brother, Eagles TE Brent Celek, Garrett is more of a block-first tight end. He blocked on 242 of his 407 offensive snaps last season, catching 19 passes for 186 yards (9.8 YPR) and three touchdowns. Celek and Vance McDonald could be the tight-end duo for coach Chip Kelly.

49ers placed TE Garrett Celek on injured reserve with a high-ankle sprain, ending his season.

LB Shayne Skov has been signed in a corresponding roster move. Celek went down in Week 12. Celek was catching passes this season, logging 19 receptions in 11 games. He had been starting since Vernon Davis' trade. Brent's brother is an impending free agent, but there's a good chance he ends up re-signing with San Francisco.

49ers declared RB Carlos Hyde, TE Garrett Celek, WR Jerome Simpson, WR DeAndrew White, CB Chris Davis, OG Brandon Thomas and OG Ian Silberman inactive for Week 13 against the Bears.

With Celek out, Vance McDonald should dominate the tight end targets and shapes up as a great TE1 streamer. Hyde did not make the trip, and there is a chance he is headed to injured reserve this week. With Simpson inactive, Quinton Patton should continue to serve as the No. 3 wide receiver.

49ers TE Garrett Celek (ankle) is out for Week 13 against the Bears.

Celek wasn't able to practice this week after suffering a high-ankle sprain Sunday against the Cardinals. Vance McDonald has seen 16 targets from Blaine Gabbert over the last two weeks and could make for a solid streaming option in Celek's absence.

49ers TE Garrett Celek (ankle) isn't practicing ahead of Week 13.

He's going to miss Sunday's game against the Bears, putting Vance McDonald on the TE2 radar.

Garrett Celek exited Week 12 against the Cardinals with an ankle injury.

Celek was rolled up from behind blocking on a first-quarter run. He rode the cart into the locker room and did not return. X-rays showed Celek escaped without any fractures, but he is dealing with a high-ankle sprain which should keep him out several weeks. Vance McDonald will dominate the tight end targets with Celek out.

49ers TE Garrett Celek caught his lone two targets for 12 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's Week 9 upset of the Falcons.

With Anquan Boldin (hamstring) inactive and Vernon Davis traded away, Celek took over as the 49ers' primary red-zone weapon, catching a pair of short touchdowns from Blaine Gabbert in the first half. Celek ultimately shared time with Vance McDonald, who caught two balls for 19 yards and had an egregious downfield drop. On sheer opportunity, Celek will be a low-end streamer option when the 49ers emerge from their Week 10 bye.

49ers TE Garrett Celek (questionable, concussion) has a chance to play Sunday.

Celek practiced on a limited basis and is still in the concussion protocol. He'll take over for Vernon Davis if he gets cleared. Vance McDonald is Celek's backup.

49ers TE Garrett Celek (concussion) was limited in Thursday's practice.

Celek must have another test or two to pass before he's cleared for Sunday's game against the Falcons. Taking over for the traded Vernon Davis, Celek would have some low-end TE2 appeal if he plays.

Garrett Celek is in the league's concussion protocol.

Celek's in line to take over as the 49ers' tight end following the Vernon Davis trade. Vance McDonald would start if Celek doesn’t get cleared.

Garrett Celek will take over as the 49ers' starting tight end following the Vernon Davis trade.

He'll be backed up by Vance McDonald and rookie Blake Bell. A former UDFA out of Michigan State, Celek runs a 4.72 forty at 6-foot-4, 250, and has failed to top eight receiving yards in each of San Francisco's last three games. Celek is a possession tight end who seems unlikely to sustain mid-range TE2 fantasy value in the 49ers' dysfunctional passing attack.

Garrett Celek caught 3-of-5 targets for 26 yards and a touchdown in Week 5 against the Giants.

Celek scored on a five-yard pass in the fourth quarter. He's had a short pass-game role even with Vernon Davis healthy, but saw increased targets with Davis out. Celek will remain a low-end streamer if Davis doesn't return in Week 6.

49ers TE Garrett Celek secured 3-of-3 targets for 29 yards in Sunday's Week 3 loss to Arizona.

He led the 49ers in receiving on a day where Colin Kaepernick passed for 67 yards. Playing more snaps than anticipated before the season, No. 2 tight end Celek has posted yardage totals of 40, 10, and 29 in the first three games. Vernon Davis reportedly limped off the field toward the end of Sunday's defeat. If Davis gets legitimately injured at any point this season, Celek could become a low-end TE1 streamer option in plus matchups.
