49ers TE Garrett Celek (knee, rib, questionable) is expected to play Week 16 against the Jaguars.
It is not a surprise after Celek got in a limited week of practice. The tight end has been on a hot streak since Jimmy Garoppolo took over, but he is an underwhelming streaming option in this matchup. Sun, Dec 24, 2017 12:30:00 AM

49ers TE Garrett Celek (knee, rib) is questionable for Week 16 against Jacksonville.

Celek got in a week of limited practice. He's taken off with Jimmy Garoppolo starting, scoring twice in the last three games. George Kittle would have an everydown role if Celek sits.

Garrett Celek caught 3-of-3 targets for 63 yards and a touchdown in the 49ers' Week 15 win over the Titans.

Celek's fourth score of the year was his second in three games with Jimmy Garoppolo under center. Celek has come on in the second half of the season, but won't be an appealing TE2 for Week 16 against the Jaguars.

Garrett Celek hauled in 2-of-4 targets for 67 yards and a touchdown in the 49ers' Week 14 win over the Texans.

It was Celek's second 67-yard, one-score performance in the last four games, and the tight end got there with a great catch-and-run for 61 yards in the third quarter before finishing up the drive with a six-yard touchdown. Perhaps more importantly moving forward, Celek out-snapped rookie George Kittle 61-to-20 in the win. Still, he will not be a trustworthy streaming option against the Titans in the fantasy semifinals.

Garrett Celek caught 4-of-6 targets for 67 yards and a touchdown in the 49ers' Week 10 win over the Giants.

Facing the league's worst tight end defense, Celek posted the third most yards of his career. The touchdown was just his eighth in 65 games. Celek caught a seed from C.J. Beathard in traffic, found the sideline, and eased by a business-decisioning Janoris Jenkins. It's possible George Kittle returns after the 49ers' Week 11 bye, which would kill Celek's streamer appeal.

Garrett Celek caught 1-of-2 targets for one yard and one touchdown against the Rams in Week 3.

He did get more snaps in the first half than rookie George Kittle, but Celek isn't really a receiving option when the 49ers aren't in their goal-line package. He did also get another end-zone target, but you can't trust him in fantasy.

Garrett Celek caught 1-of-6 targets for four yards in San Francisco's Week 5 loss to the Cardinals.

Yikes. On literally the first play of the game, Celek got wide open down the middle, but Blaine Gabbert sailed the ball to the moon. Celek later committed a brutal drop. With Vance McDonald likely to return for Week 6, Celek's TE2 moment has come and gone.

49ers TE Garrett Celek caught 5-of-5 targets for 79 yards in Sunday's Week 4 loss to the Cardinals.

Celek stepped up to play a big receiving role with Vance McDonald (hip) on the shelf. McDonald's status for Week 5 against the Cardinals is uncertain. If McDonald can't play, Celek would become a long-shot streamer for fantasy owners truly desperate at tight end.

Garrett Celek (back) remained limited in Thursday's practice.

Celek will probably be good to go for Sunday's game against the Cowboys, but his TE2/3 status will depend on Vance McDonald's (hip) health. McDonald returned to practice Thursday, getting in a limited session of his own.

Garrett Celek caught 3-of-4 targets for 25 yards in the 49ers' Week 3 loss to the Seahawks.

Celek isn't normally a notable player, but he could become a streamer option as bye weeks set in depending on the health of Vance McDonald, who exited Sunday's contest with a hip injury and never returned. Celek is a replacement-level player, but he could end up logging a ton of snaps in Week 4 versus Dallas.

The San Jose Mercury News' Cam Inman believes 49ers TE Garrett Celek will win the starting job.

Celek did earn a four-year, $10.2-million contract in February, but all the offseason buzz has been about Vance McDonald, who QB Blaine Gabbert called "a mismatch nightmare on linebackers." Both players should see plenty of snaps, but McDonald should start and be the better fantasy option.

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports 49ers TE Garrett Celek's four-year deal is worth $14 million, and includes "nearly" $5 million guaranteed.

It's a nice chunk of change, but blocker money for a team that also has Vance McDonald and Blake Bell. Celek could still end up doubling his 27 career catches in 2016, but is unlikely to emerge as a fantasy option.

49ers re-signed TE Garrett Celek to a four-year contract.

Celek had been headed to unrestricted free agency. Limited to 11 games by a high-ankle sprain last season, Celek made eight starts, catching 19 passes. Celek is primarily a blocker, and had just 27 career grabs in 39 games. Although Vance McDonald and Blake Bell will likely vie to be Chip Kelly's primary pass catcher at tight end, Celek should see heavy snaps as a blocker.

ESPN's Adam Caplan reports the 49ers and free agent TE Garrett Celek are "close to finalizing" a long-term contract.

Much like his older brother, Eagles TE Brent Celek, Garrett is more of a block-first tight end. He blocked on 242 of his 407 offensive snaps last season, catching 19 passes for 186 yards (9.8 YPR) and three touchdowns. Celek and Vance McDonald could be the tight-end duo for coach Chip Kelly.

49ers placed TE Garrett Celek on injured reserve with a high-ankle sprain, ending his season.

LB Shayne Skov has been signed in a corresponding roster move. Celek went down in Week 12. Celek was catching passes this season, logging 19 receptions in 11 games. He had been starting since Vernon Davis' trade. Brent's brother is an impending free agent, but there's a good chance he ends up re-signing with San Francisco.
