Bucs placed DE Jacquies Smith on injured reserve with a torn ACL, ending his season.
Smith played one snap Week 1 before getting hurt against the Falcons. It's an underrated loss for the Bucs after Smith finished second on the team in sacks each of the past two seasons, totaling 13.5 of them over that span. Tampa Bay will move forward with DEs Robert Ayers, William Gholston, and Noah Spence. Sep 12 - 6:11 PM

Bucs DE Jacquies Smith suffered a knee injury Week 1 against the Falcons.

Smith injured himself on a punt return and had to be carted to the locker room. He was spotted after the game walking with a crutch and sporting a "large brace" on his right knee. It is possible he is dealing with a serious injury.

Buccaneers re-signed exclusive rights free agent DE Jacquies Smith.

Smith recorded seven sacks and three forced fumbles last year but graded poorly against the run. The 26-year-old is still recovering from offseason shoulder surgery. He'll serve as sub-rusher depth behind William Gholston and Robert Ayers.

Bucs LE Jacquies Smith underwent offseason shoulder surgery and is expected to miss OTAs.

Smith was an 11-game starter last season and registered seven sacks to finish second on the team behind Gerald McCoy (8.5). Still, Smith didn't play much run defense, and the Bucs continue to look for pass-rush help even after signing DE Robert Ayers. Smith should continue to have a rotational role.

Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times expects the Buccaneers to tender exclusive rights free agent LE Jacquies Smith.

He started 11 games for the Bucs last year. Smith graded very poorly against the run and wasn't much better as a pass rusher, but there's little harm in bringing him back at a relatively low cost. The only other ERFA the Bucs have yet to tender is DE Olatunji Fatinikun.

Buccaneers declared LE Jacquies Smith, T Demar Dotson, LB Jeremiah George, QB Ryan Griffin, DE George Johnson, TE Brandon Myers and LB Josh Shirley inactive for Week 14 against the Saints.

Smith is still battling a hamstring injury. Jude Adjei-Barimah (elbow), Bruce Carter (concussion), Gosder Cherilus (knee), Lavonte David (ankle), William Gholston (concussion), Vincent Jackson (knee) and Gerald McCoy (hand) are all active for the Bucs.

Buccaneers LE Jacquies Smith (hamstring) is out for Week 14 against the Saints.

This will be his second straight absence. Howard Jones will draw another start at left end. Smith owns PFF's third-lowest grade among 4-3 defensive ends.

Buccaneers LE Jacquies Smith (hamstring) has been ruled out for Week 13.

Bucs DT Gerald McCoy (questionable, hand) is "not likely to play," per beat reporter Greg Auman. Matt Ryan dropped 397 yards and two touchdowns on the Bucs when the Falcons hosted them in Week 8. This time around, Ryan will catch Tampa Bay without its top-two pass rushers. McCoy (7) leads the Buccaneers in sacks, while edge-rusher Smith (6) ranks second on the team.

The Tampa Tribune's Roy Cummings labels Jacquies Smith as the Bucs' "best" defensive end.

Smith (6-foot-2, 260) entered the league with the Dolphins as a 2012 UDFA out of Missouri. He bounced from the Dolphins to the Jets to the Bills from 2012-2013, appearing in zero games. The Bucs claimed Smith off waivers last September, and he ended up starting seven games for Tampa Bay. He finished second on the team with 6.5 sacks. He'll likely get the first crack at the left end job.
