Lions signed DE Jacquies Smith, formerly of the Bucs.

Smith went unclaimed on waviers after getting cut from Tampa. He hasn't played since 2015 due to knee surgery, but adds some pass-rushing depth. The Lions released DE George Johnson and DL Datone Jones in corresponding moves.
Oct 18 - 4:56 PM

Buccaneers waived DE Jacquies Smith.

The move hasn't processed yet but should become official on Thursday. Smith logged seven snaps in Week 4, which was his first game in over a year after sitting out all of 2016 with a torn ACL. He led the Bucs with seven sacks in 2015 and should garner interest on waivers.
Oct 4 - 7:27 PM

Buccaneers declared DE Jacquies Smith, TE Antony Auclair, LB Devante Bond, DE Will Clarke, CB Javien Elliott, C Joe Hawley and OT Leonard Wester inactive for Week 2 against the Bears.

Smith is still nursing a knee injury, as is Bond. Kwon Alexander (illness) and Evan Smith (illness) are both active for Tampa Bay's season opener.
Sep 17 - 11:49 AM

Bucs coach Dirk Koetter said DE Jacquies Smith (knee) is nearing a return.

"I don't think he's too far off," the coach said. Smith missed all of camp, but he was removed from the PUP list over the weekend and took a few snaps during practice Monday. He may not make it back for Week 1, but he should return soon.
Sep 4 - 12:59 PM

Bucs activated DE Jacquies Smith (knee) from the active/PUP list.

Smith has been sidelined since a mid-July setback to his surgically-repaired knee. The Bucs are confident enough in his health that they expect him to return before Week 7. Smith is trending in the right direction, but his status for the start of the season remains up in the air.
Sep 2 - 3:22 PM

Bucs DE Jacquies Smith suffered a setback with his surgically-repaired knee and will undergo another operation.

Coach Dirk Koetter said Smith will be sidelined a "few weeks." Already on the active/PUP list after tearing his ACL last Week 1, Smith is now a candidate to open the year on reserve/PUP, which would cost him the first six contests.

Jul 28 - 10:50 AM

Bucs placed DE Jacquies Smith (knee) on the active/PUP list.

Smith is 10.5 months removed from ACL surgery. He's expected to be ready in time for the season and can be activated from the active/PUP list at any time during camp.
Jul 26 - 10:37 AM

Bucs DE Jacquies Smith (knee) is expected to be ready for the start of the season.

Smith is eight months removed from a torn ACL. He’ll likely be moved slowly through training camp, but should be fine for Week 1. Smith will make $1.8 million before hitting free agency next offseason.
May 17 - 7:15 PM

Bucs re-signed restricted free agent DE Jacquies Smith to a one-year, $1.797 million contract.

Smith shopped himself on the RFA market, visiting the 49ers in March, but he wasn't able to lure a team into signing him to an offer sheet. He tore his ACL in last year's season opener after leading the team in sacks the previous year. Smith will again be a rotational piece off the edge for Tampa.
May 17 - 3:50 PM

Restricted free agent DE Jacquies Smith visited the 49ers on Friday.

The Bucs tendered Smith at the original round level. If Smith signs an offer sheet elsewhere and the Bucs decline, Tampa Bay won't receive any draft pick compensation because Smith was undrafted. The 27-year-old missed all but one game last year after tearing his ACL in the Bucs' season opener.
Mar 24 - 3:34 PM

Bucs tendered restricted free agent DE Jacquies Smith at the original-round level.

It's worth $1.797 million for the former undrafted free agent, and entitles the Bucs to no compensation if Smith signs an offer sheet they decline to match. Smith has had the look of an on-the-rise player in the past, but tore his ACL last Week 1. He turns 27 later this month. Smith notched 13.5 sacks in 27 games between 2014-15.
Mar 7 - 2:17 PM

Bucs placed DE Jacquies Smith on injured reserve with a torn ACL, ending his season.

Smith played one snap Week 1 before getting hurt against the Falcons. It's an underrated loss for the Bucs after Smith finished second on the team in sacks each of the past two seasons, totaling 13.5 of them over that span. Tampa Bay will move forward with DEs Robert Ayers, William Gholston, and Noah Spence.

Bucs DE Jacquies Smith suffered a knee injury Week 1 against the Falcons.

Buccaneers re-signed exclusive rights free agent DE Jacquies Smith.
