Austin Davis completed 18-of-21 passes for 152 yards, two touchdowns, and zero interceptions in the Rams' Week 7 win over the Seahawks.
Davis dinked and dunked his way down the field all afternoon, settling for short passes to his running backs and tight ends. It wasn't flashy by any means, but successful after struggling badly in Week 6 against San Francisco. The lone shot he took downfield was a 30-yard completion to Chris Givens. Davis completed 86 percent of his passes and hooked up with Benny Cunningham and Lance Kendricks for five- and four-yard scores, respectively. Davis is a back-end QB2 with a dreadful schedule (at KC, at SF, at ARZ, vs. DEN, at SD) ahead. Oct 20 - 3:16 PM

Austin Davis completed just 21-of-42 passes for 236 yards, one touchdown, and one interception in the Rams' 31-17, Week 6 loss to the 49ers on Monday night.

Davis entered the game completing about 68 percent of his passes. That version of Davis was nowhere to be found tonight. He couldn't hook up with any of his receivers deep and made some very questionable throws. With the 49ers taking Brian Quick away or Quick not winning his routes, Davis leaned on Jared Cook in the passing game, targeting his tight end 11 times. Davis is fun to watch as a risk-taker and cold-blooded passer, but he's more 2013 Case Keenum than the Drew Brees, Brett Favre, and Jay Cutler comparisons we've heard over the past month. He'll be a bottom-barrel QB2 vs. Seattle in Week 7.

Austin Davis completed 29-of-39 passes for 375 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions in Sunday's Week 5 loss at Philadelphia.

Once Davis got settled in against this awful Eagles secondary, he shredded. Using third-year breakout WR Brian Quick as his go-to guy and Jared Cook underneath, he nearly brought the Rams back from a 34-7 third-quarter deficit to secure an unlikely win. Davis' last two games need to be taken with a big grain of salt as they've come against Dallas and Philly, but he's completed 64.8 percent of his passes for 702 yards with six touchdowns and two interceptions. He'd be a better QB2 add if he didn't have to face San Francisco and Seattle in the next two weeks.
Oct 5 - 4:25 PM

Coach Jeff Fisher announced that Austin Davis will be the Rams' starting quarterback moving forward.

Fisher says there will be "no short hook." After initially claiming Shaun Hill would resume the starting job once 100 percent healthy from a Week 1 thigh injury, Fisher has changed course. Rightfully so. Among quarterbacks with at least 90 pass attempts, Davis is tops in the league with his 72.3 completion percentage. He's averaging a healthy 8.0 YPA with a 3:3 TD:INT ratio. He's had a couple back-breaking turnovers, but Davis has generally moved the offense pretty well. Davis has a plus matchup against the Eagles this week, but is still a QB2. Davis isn't the long-term option past 2014. The Rams should know that.
Oct 1 - 3:31 PM

Austin Davis completed 30-of-42 passes for 327 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions in Sunday's Week 3 loss to the Cowboys.

Davis got the Rams out to a three-score lead before throwing two interceptions in the second half -- including a pick-six to Cowboys LB Bruce Carter. He connected with Brian Quick for a 51-yard strike against blown coverage, with his other two touchdowns coming on short throws inside the red-zone. Davis took advantage of a matchup with a Cowboys defense that was playing without two of its starting linebackers. He'll remain the Rams starter coming out of their Week 4 bye.
Sep 21 - 4:36 PM

The St. Louis Post Dispatch's Jim Thomas reports Austin Davis got the "lion's share" of the Rams' first-team quarterback reps at Wednesday's practice.

Shaun Hill (thigh) participated in individual drills and remains day-to-day. Case Keenum received a couple of reps with the starters in 11-on-11 drills. But Austin Davis is the clear favorite to start against the Cowboys after leading the Rams to a 19-17 win over the Bucs last Sunday. The Rams will pound the ball on the ground and let Davis "manage" the game with short passes. He's a low-end QB2/3.
Sep 17 - 4:29 PM

Austin Davis completed 22-of-29 passes for 235 yards, zero touchdowns, and zero interceptions in the Rams' Week 2, 19-17 win over the Bucs.

Davis looked much better than anyone could have expected. He hung tough in the pocket, staring in the face of pressure, and delivering strikes to his receivers. The second-year UDFA, making his first NFL start, posted an impressive 99.1 passer rating and 8.1 YPA. He moved the offense down the field and didn't make any mistakes, hooking up with Brian Quick seven times for 74 yards. With the win, Davis likely bought himself another start next week at home against the Cowboys even if Shaun Hill (thigh) is healthy. He's a low-end QB2/3.
Sep 14 - 7:51 PM

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch's Jim Thomas is "fully expecting" Austin Davis to be the Rams' starting quarterback in Week 2.

Fire up the Bucs' fantasy defense in a game with the lowest over-under of Week 2 (37.5 points). A popgun-armed scrambler, Davis is getting the nod in favor of injured Shaun Hill (thigh). If Davis is not effective against the Bucs, we wouldn't be totally surprised to see Case Keenum enter in the second half. The Rams have the worst quarterback situation in football, and it's not close.
Sep 14 - 10:50 AM

Austin Davis completed 16-of-23 passes for 192 yards, no touchdowns, and one interception in relief of Shaun Hill (thigh) in the Rams' 34-6, Week 1 loss to Minnesota.

Davis opened the second half at quarterback after the Rams said Hill suffered a thigh injury. We're not believing it, as Hill was flat-out terrible in the first half. Davis wasn't much better. He took four sacks and tossed an 81-yard pick-six to Harrison Smith in the fourth quarter. The Rams are in for a nightmare season with these two at quarterback. Case Keenum will likely be called on to make starts in the very near future. Davis isn't a fantasy option in Week 2 at Tampa.
Sep 7 - 4:45 PM

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch says the Rams are "strongly considering" taking a quarterback in May's draft.

GM Les Snead has ruled out using a first-round pick at the position, but it'll be in play after that. Sam Bradford has shown an inability to sustain health or effectiveness, and backup Shaun Hill is 34 years old. Austin Davis is not a legit developmental option. Beat writer Jim Thomas mentions Pittsburgh's Tom Savage, SMU's Garrett Gilbert, Georgia's Aaron Murray, Fresno State's Derek Carr and Clemson's Tajh Boyd (among others) as Day 2 or 3 possibilities.
Apr 21 - 8:20 AM

Rams signed QB Austin Davis.

A 2012 undrafted free agent, Davis was released at final cuts. He'll slide in at No. 3 on the depth chart behind Kellen Clemens and Brady Quinn. Were Clemens to get injured or benched, Davis would have a chance to eventually unseat Quinn, who has never shown anything to suggest he deserves to be quarterbacking an NFL team.

Rams waived QB Austin Davis, WR Emory Blake, and S Cody Davis.

C. Davis was St. Louis' highest priority among UDFAs, receiving the club's biggest undrafted signing bonus. They'd likely want to keep him around on the practice squad. A. Davis was beaten out for backup duties by Kellen Clemens.

Undrafted rookie QB Austin Davis "has been nothing short of precocious in his first NFL training camp," according to the Rams official website.

Through three preseason games, the former Southern Miss star is 21-of-30 (70 percent) for 207 yards (6.9 YPA). Coach Jeff Fisher confirms Davis has picked up the offense quickly and "done a great job." With the release of Kellen Clemens, Davis will enter the season as Sam Bradford's backup.
