Austin Davis completed 24-of-46 passes for 240 yards and two interceptions in the Browns' 28-12, Week 17 loss to the Steelers.
He also lost a fumble in the fourth quarter which allowed Pittsburgh to score the game-clinching touchdown. Davis managed to "lead" the Browns to 15 points and zero touchdowns in two starts this season. Cleveland will have several decisions to make when it comes to the quarterback position, but one of their primary goals should be to ensure Davis does not start any more games in 2016. Davis signed a two-year extension in September, ensuring he will be back as a backup next season. Jan 3 - 5:39 PM

The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports Austin Davis will start Week 17 against the Steelers.

Johnny Manziel will not play after being placed in the concussion protocol Wednesday. Davis "led" the offense to just three points in his only other start of the season Week 13 against the Bengals. This offense is a complete fade even in a decent matchup.

Austin Davis completed 25-of-38 passes for 231 yards and an interception in the Browns' Week 13 loss to the Bengals.

He took three sacks and rushed three times for four yards. Davis was completely ineffective, engineering zero touchdown drives in a 37-3 defeat. Look for coach Mike Pettine to seriously consider letting Johnny Manziel finish out the season at quarterback during the upcoming week.

The Browns have named Austin Davis their starting quarterback for Week 13 against the Bengals.

"Austin took advantage of his opportunity on Monday night. He was prepared, played well and put us in position to win," Pettine said. "He’s been great in the quarterback room all season and he has earned the right to start on Sunday. We expect him to play well." Davis relieved Josh McCown (collarbone) this past Monday night, and completed 7-of-10 passes for 77 yards and a 42-yard touchdown to Travis Benjamin. Davis started eight games for the Rams last season, going 3-5 with a 63.4 completion percentage, 12:9 TD:INT ratio, and 7.0 YPA average. He really struggled under pressure, however, and took a whopping 29 sacks. Johnny Manziel will be the No. 2 quarterback Sunday and will likely make starts before the season is over.

Austin Davis completed 7-of-10 passes for 77 yards and one touchdown in relief of Josh McCown (shoulder) in the Browns' Week 12 loss to the Ravens on Monday night.

Davis came into the game with just over nine minutes to go and the Browns trailing 27-20. He looked rusty his first few passes, but dialed up a deep ball to Travis Benjamin down the middle, hitting his receiver in stride for a 42-yard touchdown to tie the game. The Browns got the ball back at the Ravens' 46-yard line with just under a minute to go. Davis completed his first pass to Brian Hartline, but took nearly 30 seconds to run the next play, which he scramble to the 32-yard line and slid in bounds to keep the clock running, forcing the Browns to use a timeout. They ran it for no gain on the next play, used their final timeout, and attempted a 51-yard field goal that was blocked and returned for the game-winning touchdown. With McCown maybe done for the season, it's unclear if Davis or Johnny Manziel will get the start Week 13 against the Bengals.

Browns signed QB Austin Davis to a two-year, $4.173 million extension through 2017.

Davis is the Browns' No. 3 quarterback and a weekly inactive. It's pretty odd to see Cleveland dishing out over $2 million a year to a player they hope never has to see the field. Josh McCown and Johnny Manziel are signed through 2017. There's probably little guaranteed money, and this lowers Davis' 2015 salary.

Browns signed QB Austin Davis.

Davis was waived by the Rams at final cuts. He will be insurance against backup QB Johnny Manziel's sore elbow.

Free agent QB Austin Davis is expected to sign with the Browns on Monday.

He will sign if he passes his physical. Davis started off strong after becoming the Rams' starter in the season opener last year, but he was benched for Shaun Hill after several turnover-laden performances. Davis will serve as veteran insurance with Johnny Manziel still dealing with a sore elbow.

Rams waived QB Austin Davis.

A 2014 folk hero fill-in for Sam Bradford, Davis was exposed as a mistake-prone backup after only a couple of starts, but is vastly better than 2015 third-rounder Sean Mannion, who has made the team. The Rams would apparently rather try to save face than keep the best 53 players. In a quarterback-starved league, Davis should latch on as someone else's No. 3 fairly quickly. The Rams have also waived/released TE Alex Bayer, S Christian Bryant, TE Justice Cunningham, DT Marcus Forston, CB Montell Garner, S Jacob Hagen, DE Martin Ifedi, FB Zach Laskey, DE Matt Longacre, LB Marshall McFadden, WR Daniel Rodriguez, DT Louis Trinca-Pasat and OG Brandon Washington.

ESPN Rams reporter Nick Wagoner doesn't expect QB Austin Davis to make the 53-man roster.

With Nick Foles and third-rounder Sean Mannion locked into their roster spots, Davis is left to battle Case Keenum. Davis briefly shined as a spot starter last season, but eventually made like Icarus, flying too close to the sun. Neither Davis nor Keenum would be an appealing No. 2 behind Foles.

Rams re-signed restricted free agent QB Austin Davis to a one-year, $1.542 million contract.

The Rams tendered Davis at the lowest level, and it wouldn't have required any other team to part with a draft pick to sign him. It's a sign neither St. Louis nor the rest of the league thinks that highly of Davis. He'll compete with Case Keenum and a rookie for the Rams' backup job behind new starter Nick Foles.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reports the Browns inquired about Rams QB Austin Davis earlier this offseason.

The Browns apparently brought up Davis when the teams were having Sam Bradford discussions. The Davis ship has presumably sailed after Cleveland lavished $6.5 million guaranteed on Josh McCown. Davis will compete with Case Keenum to back up Nick Foles in 2015.

Rams extended tenders to restricted free agents QB Austin Davis and FB/TE Cory Harkey.

Both players were given the original pick tender. Davis made eight starts last year before getting benched for Shaun Hill in Week 11. Harkey should return as the Rams' No. 2 tight end behind Jared Cook.

The Rams have benched QB Austin Davis.

Shaun Hill will get the start under center this week against the Broncos. After a hot start that laughably had respected football people comparing Davis to Hall of Famers Kurt Warner, Drew Brees, Tom Brady, and Brett Favre, Davis predictably melted down once defenses figured him out. He's a weak-armed turnover machine with four pick-sixes and two fumble-sixes across eight starts. The final nail in his coffin was a fourth-quarter collapse against Arizona last week, when Davis threw an interception, pick-six, and lost a fumble-six on three straight possessions. He's nothing more than a backup.
Wed, Nov 12, 2014 11:07:00 AM

Coach Jeff Fisher confirmed the Rams will stick with Austin Davis as their starting quarterback for Week 11 against the Broncos.

It would have been a mild surprise to see Fisher go to Shaun Hill. But Davis completely went up in flames in the fourth quarter Sunday against the Cardinals. The Rams had a 14-10 lead, but Davis threw an interception that led to a touchdown for Arizona, then threw a pick-six on the following possession, before losing a fumble that was returned for a score on the possession after that. He genuinely looked overwhelmed. Davis has been exposed of late now that defenses have a book on him. But the Rams have nothing to gain by going back to Hill.
