Brandon Bolden rushed five times for one yard in New England's Week 1 win over the Steelers, adding a 12-yard reception.
Bolden mostly watched from the sideline as Dion Lewis monopolized the Patriots' backfield touches. One of Bolden's runs was a failed effort from the Steelers' one-yard line. With LeGarrette Blount coming off suspension in Week 2, Bolden could see zero snaps on offense. Sep 11 - 12:30 AM

Brandon Bolden gained 12 yards on five carries in the Patriots' third preseason game.

More than the pedestrian stats, it was notable that Bolden worked as the primary passing-down back with the Tom Brady group. Bolden and Jonas Gray shared the backfield with Brady under center, as Gray handled inside runs and Bolden worked in the old Vereen Role. Bolden has emerged as the favorite for those duties, ahead of Travaris Cadet, James White, and Dion Lewis.

ESPN Boston's Mike Reiss suggests the Patriots' passing-down-back job will come down to Brandon Bolden and James White.

White shined in New England's preseason opener, while Bolden's versatility has always been his calling card, though the Patriots have viewed him as primarily a special teamer. Travaris Cadet injured his hamstring on August 8 and has been on the shelf ever since. The "Vereen Role" could still be handled on a committee basis, but White is the leader in the clubhouse.

The Boston Herald reports Brandon Bolden is "currently the leader in the clubhouse" for the Patriots' third-down running back job.

Bolden is "ahead of James White and everyone else." White has apparently struggled "ever since the pads came on" and has been leapfrogged by Bolden and Travaris Cadet. Bolden is a fourth-year veteran who has been earning his keep on special teams. Unlike Vereen, however, he's not super athletic. Bolden is getting the nod because of his work in pass protection. If he wins the job, odds are high Bolden isn't going to catch 30 balls, let alone Vereen's 50-plus passes. Bolden winning the third-down gig would be good news for Julian Edelman owners.

Patriots signed RB Brandon Bolden to a two-year, $2.32 million contract extension through 2016.

Bolden played just 77 snaps on offense during the regular season, rushing for 89 yards and one touchdown on 28 carries (3.2 YPC). But he's a core special teams player for New England as the No. 4 running back.

Brandon Bolden rushed five times for 15 yards Week 17 against the Bills.

Bolden saw most of the early work for New England, but ceded running back touches to LeGarrette Blount as the game wore on. With Blount back healthy and Jonas Gray (ankle) close to returning, Bolden could find himself inactive when the Patriots open the playoffs.

Brandon Bolden rushed five times for 32 yards in the Patriots' Week 16 win over the Jets.

With LeGarrette Blount (shoulder) sidelined, the Pats went with a three-man committee of Bolden, Jonas Gray and Shane Vereen. Bolden rotated "big back" duties with Gray, out-gaining him 32-5, but it was Gray who got the Pats' lone rushing score. Expect similar usage in Week 17 if Blount sits against the Bills.

Brandon Bolden rushed three times for 17 yards and a touchdown in New England's Week 13 loss to the Packers.

The score was Bolden's first of the season. Running as the Pats' No. 2 "big back" behind LeGarrette Blount — and ahead of Jonas Gray — Bolden broke an impressive amount of tackles on his three rushes. Despite the nice day, Bolden remains best quarantined to the waiver wire in fantasy leagues.

Brandon Bolden didn't touch the ball in New England's Week 8 win over the Bears.

Bolden now has one touch in two games since Stevan Ridley was lost for the season. He's running behind Shane Vereen, Jonas Gray and James White. Coach Bill Belichick mixes up his running-back rotation from week to week, but it's hard to see Bolden coming into 12-14 team league value.

Brandon Bolden was held without a rushing attempt in New England's Week 7 win over the Jets, catching his lone target in the passing game for four yards.

That will leave a mark if you started Bolden in your daily league. Bolden didn't play a single snap in the first half, and was clearly behind Jonas Gray as the Pats' "big back." Of course, neither runner was a part of the game plan, as Shane Vereen gobbled up 17 of the Pats' 20 running back touches. New England's backfield usage can change week to week, but at best, Bolden should be the final player on your bench in 12-14 team leagues.

Brandon Bolden is tentatively expected to start in the Stevan Ridley role Thursday night.

Beat writer Jeff Howe expects a rotation between Bolden, James White and Shane Vereen, with the Patriots riding a hot hand. Vereen is obviously the safest bet as we know his passing back role is intact and the Patriots have used him in some short-yardage situations before. Bolden is a desperation roll of the dice until we get some more clarity here.

ESPN Boston notes that Brandon Bolden is a core special teamer for the Patriots.

With Stevan Ridley (knee) possibly out for the season, many will assume Bolden will simply step into the big back role. Beat writer Mike Reiss isn't so sure, noting that Bolden already has a lot of responsibility as part of all four special teams units. We'd expect James White, Bolden and maybe even practice squadder Jonas Gray to share Ridley's touches, leaving none with very much upside. As usual, week-to-week predictability in New England's backfield will be impossible.

Brandon Bolden had six carries for 10 yards in Week 6 against the Bills.

Bolden was the Patriots' early down back after Stevan Ridley left with a knee injury. Ridley is potentially dealing with a torn ACL, which would sideline him for the rest of the season. Bolden could see the majority of Ridley's snaps going forward. Rookie James White could be also be worth a speculative add.

The Boston Globe's Erik Frenz does not believe Patriots RB Brandon Bolden will make the team.

Though used primarily in the passing game while Shane Vereen was injured last season, Bolden has the size and running style to play the "big back" role in the Patriots' offense. If Bolden is cut, it would leave just Stevan Ridley and perhaps UDFA Stephen Houston to fill that role. In addition to Ridley and Vereen, Frenz believes FB James Devlin and rookies James White and Roy Finch will crack the final roster.

Filling in for an injured Shane Vereen (groin), Brandon Bolden rushed once for six yards in New England's Week 16 win over the Ravens, adding two catches for an additional six yards.

The touches were Bolden's first since Week 13. Bolden will get some run in Week 17 if Vereen isn't ready to go, but won't be a viable option in daily leagues.
