Patriots released RB Brandon Bolden.
Even with his special teams value, Bolden got frozen out of the Patriots' crowded backfield. 27-year-old Bolden is a sub-replacement level runner. Molded to the Patriots' system, Bolden's phone isn't going to be ringing off the hook on the open market. Sep 2 - 6:44 PM

The Boston Globe believes Brandon Bolden isn’t a lock for the final roster.

Bolden’s one-year deal has just $50K in guaranteed money. With the addition of Rex Burkhead, his special teams value might not be enough for a spot in a deep backfield. The Patriots also haven’t ruled out bringing back LeGarrette Blount.

Patriots re-signed RB Brandon Bolden.

Bolden didn't draw any interest on the open market. He'll return as a core special teamer. With four running backs under contract, Bolden isn't a final roster lock.

Ben Volin of the Boston Globe believes Brandon Bolden is "in danger" of losing his roster spot to Tyler Gaffney.

Previous reports had Gaffney pushing LeGarrette Blount, which never made much sense. Gaffney overtaking Bolden is more feasible. Gaffney has been the better performer this preseason with 95 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries, though Bolden has always been valued on special teams. The Pats may keep both players if Dion Lewis (ACL) begins the year on reserve/PUP as some are predicting.

Brandon Bolden rushed five times for 12 yards in the Patriots' AFC Championship Game loss to the Broncos, adding two receptions for 29 additional yards.

The Pats were throwing darts at a board with their rushing game today, and for that matter, for the entire second half of the season. Bolden is a linchpin special teamer, but the definition of a replacement-level player on offense. He can be safely left on the waiver wire in Dynasty leagues.

Brandon Bolden touched the ball once in the Patriots' Divisional Round win over the Chiefs.

He lost three yards on a reception. The Pats scarcely bothered with their running game this week, but when they did, Steven Jackson was running into brick walls. Bolden should bounce back for 6-8 touches in the AFC Championship Game.

Brandon Bolden rushed nine times for 31 yards and caught both of his targets for five yards Week 17 against the Dolphins.

Bolden rotated with Steven Jackson as the Patriots attempted to ride the running game in the first half. Bolden was slightly more effective than the veteran, but he could not find much room against a defense which had been struggling against the run. Bolden looks like he has lost the early-down job to Jackson, but he should retain an offensive role throughout the playoffs.

Brandon Bolden rushed nine times for 30 yards in the Patriots' Week 16 loss to the Jets, adding five receptions for 30 additional yards.

Bolden got the start, and was the Pats' clear lead runner on early downs despite ceding seven carries to Steven Jackson. Joey Iosefa was not a factor one week after getting the ball 14 times. Bolden was critically important for the Pats this afternoon, leading in touches and helping to pick up the blitz behind a banged up offensive line, but it didn't translate to fantasy value. He'll continue to split time with James White, Jackson and Iosefa in Week 17.

Brandon Bolden started the Patriots' Week 15 win over the Titans, rushing 10 times for 36 yards.

He added two catches for 18 additional yards. Although Bolden got the start and was operating as the Patriots' clear lead back early on, he ended up getting out-touched and out-carried by practice squad signee Joey Iosefa. It was the nightmare scenario envisioned by Bill Belichick truthers all week. We won't pretend to know how Belichick might split up work in Week 16 against the Jets, rendering Bolden a no go as an RB3/FLEX.

ESPN Boston's Mike Reiss believes Brandon Bolden is the "most likely candidate" to lead the Patriots in Week 15 carries.

Reiss expects the Patriots to "split running duties" between Bolden, Joey Iosefa, and James White, but he foresees Bolden as the likely lead back. Iosefa is a 250-pound fullback/tailback type who might conjure memories of Jonas Gray. The Patriots have never viewed White as a high-volume runner. Bolden has done it sparingly in the past.

Brandon Bolden is expected to take over as the Patriots' early-down runner with LeGarrette Blount (hip) reportedly done for the season.

With Blount sidelined for most of Sunday's win over the Texans, Bolden took the rock 16 times for 51 yards. Coach Bill Belichick's plans can never be assumed, but both Belichick and OC Josh McDaniels have offered up Bolden praise this week. James White should receive some carries, as well, but will likely remain the third-down back. Bolden is worth adding as an RB2/3 for the final two weeks of the fantasy playoffs.

Patriots OC Josh McDaniels said Brandon Bolden will "definitely" be an option if LeGarrette Blount (hip) misses time.

Blount was spotted on crutches Tuesday, so it is a safe bet he is going to miss time. Bolden dominated backfield touches once Blount went down Sunday night, and he is the favorite to lead the backfield in touches against the Titans. With James White likely to be involved as well, Bolden is still a risky play.

Brandon Bolden had 16 carries for 51 yards in the Patriots' Week 14 win over Houston.

Bolden played the power back role with LeGarrette Blount (hip) sidelined. He outsnapped and saw more touches than James White, but was vultured on a third down goal-line TD. Bolden will be on the RB2 map if Blount can’t return next week. He’s one of Week 15’s top waiver adds.

Brandon Bolden had four carries for 11 yards and caught four passes for 84 yards and a touchdown in the Patriots' Week 12 loss to the Broncos.

Bolden played a bigger pass-game role than James White on only 15 snaps. He got almost all of his yards on a 63-yard touchdown. The Patriots have been using both White and Bolden in the Dion Lewis role. Despite the big game, Bolden is only a deep-league add.

Brandon Bolden rushed one time for minus-three yards in the Patriots' Week 10 win over the Giants.

He didn't catch his lone target. Bolden and James White combined to touch the ball three times in the aftermath of Dion Lewis' Week 9 torn ACL. LeGarrette Blount saw 21-of-24 backfield touches, and Tom Brady worked the short passing game with Danny Amendola and Julian Edelman before Edelman left with a foot injury. Bolden isn't worth owning in 14- and 16-team leagues.
