Patriots RB Brandon Bolden is sitting out OTAs this week as he rehabs an "undisclosed ailment."
Pats beat writers are unaware of the injury's extent or location, but Bolden did miss Weeks 7-8 with a knee injury last season. The 5-foot-11, 220-pound prospect rushed for 274 yards and two touchdowns on 56 carries as a rookie. May 22 - 11:59 AM

Patriots RB Brandon Bolden retook his role as Stevan Ridley's primary "breather back" in Week 16, playing 12 offensive snaps.

Ridley played 35 downs. Passing-down maven Danny Woodhead played 24, and Bolden was third in line, ahead of Shane Vereen (3 snaps). Bolden managed only three yards on five carries against Jacksonville, but he was an effective downhill runner early in the season and should maintain a role into the NFL playoffs.

Patriots activated RB Brandon Bolden from the reserve/suspended list.

Bolden, suspended since early November after getting popped for PEDs, will be eligible to play Monday night against the Texans. The undrafted rookie from Ole Miss rushed for 234 yards and two touchdowns on 43 early-season carries (5.4 YPC), showing good straight-line speed and some power as a north-south downhill runner. It's unclear where Bolden is on the Patriots' depth chart at this stage. Shane Vereen has played pretty well in his absence.

Patriots RB Brandon Bolden (knee) is practicing Thursday for the first time since mid-October.

Bolden's four-game suspension came after he missed several weeks with a knee injury. The suspension apparently allowed the knee plenty of rest to get back to full health. Bolden is not yet a threat to Shane Vereen's backup job.

With Brandon Bolden's four-game suspension over, head coach Bill Belichick was non-committal when asked if the running back would play this week.

"I don't know. We'll see how it goes this week," Belichick said. "He just came back this week. We'll see how it goes. I don't know." Typical Belichick fashion. The Patriots have a one-week roster exemption, and with Shane Vereen and Danny Woodhead clicking behind Stevan Ridley, we wouldn't expect to see Bolden on Monday night against the Texans.

Brandon Bolden's four-game suspension ended Monday.

The Patriots have received a roster exemption for Bolden, meaning they have a week to decide if they'll activate him. The backfield has been humming along with Shane Vereen and Danny Woodhead supporting feature back Stevan Ridley.

NFL suspended Patriots RB Brandon Bolden four games for violating the league's policy on performance enhancing substances.

The ban kicks in immediately, per WEEI's Chris Price. Bolden was not expected to play this week anyway due to a knee injury. Bolden can be dropped in re-draft leagues. The Patriots will move forward with Shane Vereen and Danny Woodhead behind Stevan Ridley. Bolden, an undrafted rookie out of Ole Miss, rushed 43 times for 234 yards (5.4 YPC) and two touchdowns in the first six games.

Patriots RB Brandon Bolden (knee) has twice been seen without crutches this week.

The Boston Herald surmises that Bolden is "making progress" this week, but he's still not close to returning to practice. He's likely another couple of weeks away from game action.

Brandon Bolden (knee) did not practice Thursday.

At this point, it would be a surprise if Bolden plays against the Bills Sunday. He hasn't practiced since going down in Week 6. Shane Vereen and Danny Woodhead will operate as change-of-pace options behind Stevan Ridley.

Brandon Bolden (knee) did not participate in Wednesday's practice.

This doesn't bode well for Bolden's chances of returning for Sunday's tilt against the Bills. Bolden hasn't seen the field since Week 6, and his absence has opened the door for Shane Vereen, who has 98 total yards and a score on 17 touches in his last two games.

Brandon Bolden (knee) was absent from Thursday's bye-week practice.

Bolden may still return to practice next week, though we have no reason to believe that will be the case. At this point, Shane Vereen appears to be locked in as Stevan Ridley's change-of-pace back.

Brandon Bolden (knee) has been ruled out for Week 8.

Bolden has now missed back-to-back games, and the Pats haven't offered so much as a hint as to when he may return. He should be considered week-to-week. Shane Vereen should be in for the neighborhood of 8-10 touches against the Rams in London.

Brandon Bolden (knee) missed practice again on Thursday.

Bolden isn't going to play in London. Expect Shane Vereen to see 8-10 touches as a mediocre flex option behind Stevan Ridley.

Brandon Bolden (knee) was held out of Wednesday's practice.

Coach Bill Belichick has maintained radio silence on Bolden's status, and there's been nothing to suggest he'll be ready to suit up for this Sunday's game in London. It's possible he won't even make the trip across the pond. Shane Vereen will serve as Stevan Ridley's back-up hammer.

Brandon Bolden (knee) did not participate in Tuesday's walkthrough.

It's not unusual for injured players to participate in walkthrough if there's a reasonable expectation they will be available for that week's game. We suspect Bolden will be held out for at least one more week, with Shane Vereen working as Stevan Ridley's change-of-pace back.
