Seahawks signed K Sebastian Janikowski, formerly of the Raiders, to a one-year contract.
The 40-year-old spent all of last year on injured reserve and wasn't re-signed by the Raiders, who are moving forward with Giorgio Tavecchio as their kicker. Janikowski boasts one of the strongest legs in football, though his career success rate is barely over 80 percent. Still, he should be a noticeable upgrade on Blair Walsh, who made just 21-of-29 attempts for the Seahawks last season. Apr 13 - 4:29 PM

Free agent K Sebastian Janikowski will visit the Seahawks on Tuesday.

The 40-year-old has also drawn light interest from the Chargers this offseason but hasn't appeared particularly close to a deal after missing last season with a back injury. The Seahawks have Jason Myers under contract but are obviously looking for upgrades on last year's kicker, Blair Walsh.

Free agent K Sebastian Janikowski is visiting the Chargers.

The Chargers suffered badly from their league-worst kicking efforts last season, costing them multiple games and eventually a shot at the playoffs. GM Tom Telesco is making it Plan A to add kicker help this offseason.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal's Michael Gehlken reports free agent K Sebastian Janikowski plans to continue his career.

"He plans on getting another job," agent Paul Healy told Gehlken. "Unfortunately, he had this back issue. He’s healthy now, and he’s ready to go." The back injury Healy references kept Janikowski on injured reserve all of 2017, a concern magnified by the fact he turns 40 in March. Janikowski was an effective option before the injury, however, and likely will find a taker in free agency.

The Raiders aren't expected to re-sign Sebastian Janikowski.

Janikowski had been with Oakland since 2000. He missed last year with a back injury and won't be retained with Giorgio Tavecchio under team control. Entering his age-40 season, Janikowski still has some years left but will need to prove he's healthy.

Sebastian Janikowski (back, injured reserve) will not return this season.

There was hope the veteran kicker would come back, but the Raiders decided to use their two return spots on rookie S Obi Melifonwu and sophomore CB Antonio Hamilton. A free agent after this season, that decision could mean Janikowski has played his final snap with the Raiders, the team which drafted him No. 17 overall way back in 2000. Janikowski turns 40 in March.

Raiders placed K Sebastian Janikowski (back) on injured reserve.

Janikowski practiced on a limited basis and was listed as questionable for Week 1. He'll now miss at least the first six games before he's eligible to return. The Raiders promoted Giorgio Tavecchio from the practice squad to replace Janikowski.

Raiders K Sebastian Janikowski (back) is questionable for Week 1 against the Titans.

Janikowski was limited all week with a back injury but should be a go for Sunday's opener. The Raiders signed Giorgio Tavecchio to their practice squad as insurance in case Janikowski suffers a last-minute setback.

Sebastian Janikowski will stay with the Raiders after resolving his contractual differences with the team.

Specifically, he agreed to a $1 million pay cut. He will remain the longest-tenured Raider in team history. Janikowski was the 17th overall pick in the 2000 NFL draft. Janikowski went 29-of-35 on field goals last season and is worth a look as a Week 1 play in what's projected as a high-scoring game against the Titans.

The Raiders have asked K Sebastian Janikowski to rework his contract, but Janikowski has declined.

Janikowski is set to earn a base salary of $4.05 million in the final year of his deal, and it becomes guaranteed on Saturday if he's still on the roster. It explains why the Raiders hosted free agent Ks Josh Lambo, Mike Nugent, and Marshall Koehn on Monday. Janikowski is by far the longest-tenured Raiders player and turned 39 this year. He's been in Oakland since 2000.

Sebastian Janikowski is now just 15-of-22 on field goals this season.

Janikowski missed two more big ones against the Titans in Week 12 and his 68.2 conversion rate is by far the worst of his career. He's also missed twice from inside 40 yards this season, a spot in which he's made 85-of-86 across the previous five campaigns. "We're not making them, not consistently enough," said coach Dennis Allen. "We have to continue to work to get better there." Janikowski has a big name, but he's not a fantasy option while struggling in an inconsistent Raiders offense.
