Raiders signed LB Napoleon Harris to a one-year contract.

They must not be in love with Ricky Brown. Harris isn't a difference maker, but the 30-year-old has loads of starting experience and will push Brown at middle linebacker until Kirk Morrison returns from his dislocated elbow.

The Steelers are hosting free agent LB Napoleon Harris on Thursday, according to Profootballtalk.com.

Harris, 30, is a journeyman but it's surprising he's drawn such scant interest after finishing 2008 as Minnesota's starting middle linebacker. He wasn't an obvious liability. Harris would be an inside backup in Pittsburgh.

Newly acquired Napoleon Harris played most of the snaps at middle linebacker for the Vikings in Week 7.

Vinny Ciurciu started, but Harris took over on the second series and made five stops (four solo). Harris will likely play full time after the bye week.

Vikings signed LB Napoleon Harris, formerly of the Chiefs.

The Minneapolis Star-Tribune suggests he could take over as the Vikings' middle linebacker by as soon as Week 9, after their Week 8 bye. Dontarrious Thomas is likely to start there this week. Harris won't be a three-down player, but will be worth a look in tackle-heavy IDP settings while starting.

Recently released LB Napoleon Harris said his agent has been in touch with two teams including his former team, the Vikings.

Harris will make a visit to the Lions Wednedsay, but he got the impression that the Vikes were moving on with Dontarrious Thomas. Harris added that he is healthy and wants to play as soon as possible.

NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports the Chiefs have released LB Napoleon Harris.

The Chiefs were shopping Harris, but they predictably couldn't find any takers for the perennial disappointment. Harris, who has yet to play this season, will immediately become a free agent. The former Viking could be of interest to Minnesota with E.J. Henderson out of the season.

The Chiefs have reportedly become "disenchanted" with Napoleon Harris.

As have all the other NFL teams that have employed him. Harris is currently lining up as a backup behind scrap heap pickup Pat Thomas.

The Kansas City Star calls the notion that Napoleon Harris will be a fourth linebacker in 2008 "speculation."

It was the Star's report in the first place. Harris, who signed a $24.5 million contract in 2007, says he's under the impression that he'll start in the middle this season. We may not know the lineup for sure until training camp, but it will be a surprise if Donnie Edwards isn't the Week 1 starter at MLB.

Chiefs coach Herm Edwards says LB Napoleon Harris will not be released.

"But he’s got to play better," Edwards said. "He knows that." Harris, only a year into the $24.5 million deal he signed last March, has been sent to the bench. He'll be the most expensive utility linebacker in football in 2008.

Chiefs signed MLB Napoleon Harris to a six-year, $24.5 million contract. The deal includes $7.5 million guaranteed and $13 million in the first three years.

Harris will replace Kawika Mitchell in the middle, although we're not sure he's an upgrade. Two linebacker-hungry teams have let Harris walk in a three-year span and he's only finished a full 16-game season once. But from a fantasy standpoint, his IDP value rises significantly playing inside in a Tampa 2. Kansas City still would like a replacement for SLB Kendrell Bell.

Free agent LB Napoleon Harris will visit with the Bucs before he meets with the Chiefs.

Bucs general manager Bruce Allen drafted Harris in Oakland. He could replace Shelton Quarles in the middle for Tampa Bay.

Free agent LB Napoleon Harris is expected to visit the Chiefs Friday.

Harris played in a Tampa 2 last season, and would stay in that scheme if he signed with K.C. Miami is also expected to be in the running for Harris.
Thu, Mar 1, 2007 10:14:00 PM

The Dolphins are expected to go after Napoleon Harris in free agency.

The former Raider and Viking was a first-round pick, but has been a disappointment on the field his old career. He also is injury prone, which should keep his pricetage down.
Thu, Mar 1, 2007 11:24:00 AM

The Vikings have not held "substantive" contract talks with LB Napoleon Harris, WR Travis Taylor, or KR Bethel Johnson, all pending free agents.

The trio is expected to hit the open market. Either Chad Greenway or E.J. Henderson will be starting at middle linebacker in 2007. The Vikings will get a makeover at wideout. Harris will likely command a multi-year deal.
