Jets coach Todd Bowles plans to be more involved on the offensive side of the ball in 2017.
"It's just the way I feel as a coach, and have evolved to, and where I need to be," Bowles said. "To understand everything from that (offensive) standpoint, I need to be heavily involved." Bowles is also relinquishing defensive play-calling duties to DC Kacy Rodgers. Headed into his third-year on the job, Bowles appears to believe he needs to be more CEO-minded in his approach. The New York Daily News' Gary Myers reports Todd Bowles will be back as the Jets' coach in 2017.

It's hard to put the blame squarely on Bowles' shoulders for the Jets' disappointing 4-11 (to this point) season. Ryan Fitzpatrick had an outlier season in 2015, playing the best he ever has in his career that year, and the Jets went all in on him again for 2016 only to see FitzMagic revert to his old ways as a turnover machine. Eric Decker also only played three games before season-ending shoulder and hip surgeries. Bowles' defense also crumbled, but Darrelle Revis took a noticeable hit from Father Time, and DE Muhammad Wilkerson is a year removed from a broken leg. Bowles appears set to get a third year at the helm, but GM Mike Maccagnan is going to have to restock the cupboard and needs to find an answer at quarterback.

Jets coach Todd Bowles is meeting with doctors on Monday.

Bowles was hospitalized last Friday because of what he called kidney and gallbladder issues. He was able to coach the game Saturday after being released from the hospital, and he said these issues will be addressed after the season, suggesting he will coach the season finale this week.

Jets coach Todd Bowles rejoined the team Saturday morning and will travel with the squad to Gillette Stadium.

Bowles had a health scare Friday, but he seems to be okay. It is not clear if he will coach from the sidelines or the booth. Mike Caldwell was expected to serve as the interim coach if Bowles was not able to be there, and he could have an expanded role if Bowles is forced to stay in the booth.

Jets coach Todd Bowles didn't travel with the team due to an illness.

Bowles was admitted to a hospital but is in stable condition. It's not clear if he'll rejoin the team on Saturday. Mike Caldwell will serve as head coach if Bowles isn't available.

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports the Jets aren't expected to fire Todd Bowles.

This falls in line with a report that owner Woody Johnson "remains behind" Bowles. The Jets aren't planning on making any changes to their current power structure. Bowles has two years left on his deal and should return for a third season.

Jets hired Todd Bowles as head coach.

Bowles, 51, is coming home, as he's from Elizabeth, New Jersey and played his college ball at Temple. Bowles has been the Cardinals' defensive coordinator the past two seasons after holding the same title in Philadelphia and Miami prior to his gig in Arizona. The Cardinals fielded the league's No. 6 total defense in 2013 before injuries and suspensions ripped up the 2014 club. Bowles is still a maximizer of talent and puts his players in the best position to succeed. His top task is hiring a bright mind to right the Jets' offense.

Cardinals DC Todd Bowles' second interview for the Jets' head-coaching vacancy is taking place on Tuesday.

According to ESPN's Josh Weinfuss, Bowles will then conduct a second interview with the Falcons on Wednesday. That's if the Jets let Bowles escape New York without a job. Per Weinfuss' colleague Adam Schefter, "they might not."

The Jets will get the first crack at a second interview with Cardinals DC Todd Bowles.

The Falcons are also expecting to get a second interview with Bowles. But it remains to be seen if new Jets GM Mike Maccagnan will let Bowles get out of town without a deal. The Jets are unlikely to land red-hot Seahawks DC Dan Quinn, and Bowles likely has an edge on Panthers DC Sean McDermott.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution sees Cardinals DC Todd Bowles as the "leading candidate" to replace Mike Smith as Falcons head coach.

The Falcons were in the Rex Ryan hunt, but lost out to the Bills. Bowles will interview for a second time with Atlanta on Wednesday. Per the Journal-Constitution, Patriots OC Josh McDaniels is expected to stay with New England after his team advanced to the AFC Championship Game, nixing any opportunities for McDaniels to interview this week. Seahawks DC Dan Quinn is expected to go to the Jets. Bowles is said to be tight with new Falcons lead personnel man Scott Pioli, who is Bill Parcells' son in law. Bowles worked for Parcells in Dallas and Miami.

Cardinals DC Todd Bowles is getting a second interview with both the Jets and Falcons.

Bowles remains one of the biggest dominoes to fall as the coaching vacancy process drags on. He's garnered interest from the Bears and 49ers as well.

The Falcons will interview Cardinals DC Todd Bowles on Saturday for their open head coach position.

A hot commodity this offseason, Bowles has already interviewed with the Bears, 49ers and Jets. It would be a shock if Bowles does not land a head coaching job. Bowles has been the Cardinals' defensive coordinator since 2013.

Cardinals DC Todd Bowles will interview for the Bears' head-coaching vacancy on Thursday, followed by San Francisco on Friday and Atlanta on Saturday.

The Bears named ex-Saints executive Ryan Pace as their new general manager on Thursday, so it's possible Bowles won't be escaping Chicago without a deal if Pace likes what he hears. Bowles' Bears talk was originally scheduled for Saturday, so it's possible the sides are already anticipating a marriage.

The Bears will interview Cardinals DC Todd Bowles for their head-coaching vacancy on Thursday.

The interview has been fast-forwarded two days, perhaps partially because Chicago has settled on a GM after interviewing Ryan Pace (Saints) and Chris Ballard (Chiefs) on Wednesday. Ballard is believed to be the front-runner for the Bears' GM job. Bowles may have emerged as the favorite to be Ballard's coach.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Cardinals defensive coordinator Todd Bowles will interview with the Jets on Wednesday.

Bowles will be the fifth candidate to interview to replace Rex Ryan. Bowles runs a 3-4 defense, but experimented with 4-3 late in the season. Ryan also used hybrid fronts, so there are pieces in place for a smooth transition.
