NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports Steelers coach Mike Tomlin's contract extension makes him among the top 3-5 highest-paid coaches in the league.
Rapsheet adds Tomlin is now one of the highest-paid coaches in "all of sports." Per ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, Tomlin will make "at least" $7 million per season. Tomlin's teams haven't produced a playoff victory since 2010-11, but he sports an 82-46 (.641) record in eight seasons since replacing Bill Cowher. It's a richly-deserved extension. Jul 23 - 1:51 PM

Steelers signed coach Mike Tomlin to a contract extension through the 2018 season.

It's a two-year extension on a deal that was previously set to expire following the 2016 campaign. Tomlin has been in charge of the Steelers since 2007, compiling a gaudy 82-46 record with five playoff appearances and two Super Bowl berths. Offshore sportsbooks have the Steelers as the third choice to win the AFC North this season, behind the Ravens and Bengals.

The Steelers will not be docked a draft pick for Mike Tomlin's sideline interference in Pittsburgh's Thanksgiving loss to the Ravens.

Tomlin was fined $100,000 in December, and the league has decided that was enough punishment. That might not have been the case had Pittsburgh gone on to win the game. Tomlin's sideline snafu is now just a humorous anecdote for one of the league's proudest franchises.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on Sunday Countdown that the Steelers would be likeliest to have a draft choice "downgraded" as opposed to losing one as a result of Mike Tomlin's sideline incident against Baltimore.

Tomlin has vehemently denied his action was intentional, but it had some impact on the play and more discipline could be forthcoming on top of Tomlin's $100,000 fine. It's believed the to-be-determined draft pick will be downgraded only if the four points Tomlin's faux-trip of Jacoby Jones winds up costing the Ravens a playoff-seeding tiebreaker. This thing will be resolved in January.

The Steelers are unlikely to lose any draft picks as a result of the Mike Tomlin sideline incident.

The NFL has determined that Jacoby Jones might have scored a touchdown if Tomlin didn't get in his way. But they wound up kicking a field goal and winning the game anyway, so the only effect the incident had on the bottom line was a four-point swing. An NFL source told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that draft picks will only be stripped if those four points cost the Ravens any playoff seeding tiebreakers. That's highly unlikely to happen, meaning Tomlin and the Steelers have escaped with only the $100K fine.

The NFL has fined Steelers coach Mike Tomlin $100,000 for the sideline incident during the Thanksgiving game against the Ravens.

The league will also consider stripping the Steelers of a draft pick once the order is set and compensatory picks are handed out. In the third quarter last Thursday, Jacoby Jones broke a kickoff return down the sideline near the Steelers bench. He was shockingly slowed down by Tomlin, who was standing too close to the field with his back to the play. He says it was an unintentional mistake. Either way, Tomlin is lucky to have avoided a suspension.

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports Steelers coach Mike Tomlin's job is safe for 2014.

Tomlin has overseen a steady decline since the Steelers lost Super Bowl XLV, but it's had far more to do with the team's aging and injury-prone roster than his coaching. Per Rapoport, the Rooney family still "believes in stability," and doesn't want to make a change regardless of this season's results. Tomlin should be safe barring an all-out meltdown, but will be firmly on the hot seat in 2014.
