The Seahawks and coach Pete Carroll have been "collectively fined" $300,000 for violating the league's offseason non-contact practice rules
The team has also been docked two minicamp practices. According to ESPN's Chris Mortensen, the Seahawks' June 16 OTAs session was "deemed unsuitable under CBA rules." It's hardly a federal offense, but won't help Carroll's reputation as a renegade rules bender. Aug 26 - 5:25 PM

Seahawks signed head coach Pete Carroll to a three-year extension through 2017.

Carroll has posted a 71-57 career record as a head coach, dating back to stints with the Jets and Patriots, and his record the past two seasons in Seattle is 24-8 with a Super Bowl 48 trophy. Carroll's style of play has arguably revolutionized today's NFL, as in a "copy-cat league" many teams have begun playing press coverage on defense while running the ball first on offense. Carroll also plays a major role in personnel decisions, along with GM John Schneider. In Pat Daugherty's head-coaching rankings column, Carroll came in second to only Bill Belichick. NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports the Seahawks will announce a contract extension for coach Pete Carroll at a Friday press conference.

Carroll was going into the final season of his original five-year, $35 million deal he signed in 2010. It's a well-earned extension for the 62-year-old Carroll, who is one of only three coaches in football history to win both a Super Bowl and NCAA title. The Seahawks are 38-26 under Carroll's guidance, winning at least one playoff game in three of the past four seasons.

The Seahawks are the fourth youngest team to win a Super Bowl.

The average age of John Schneider/Pete Carroll's roster is 26 years, 175 days. The youngest championship club ever was the 1974-75 Steelers, who took home another Lombardi Trophy the following season. With a bevy of team-friendly contracts amongst the Seahawks' impressive stockpile of young talent, they'll be extremely well positioned to become the NFL's first repeat champs since the 2003-04 Patriots. Vegas has already installed Seattle as 2014 favorites.
