Browns No. 6 overall pick OLB Barkevious Mingo currently weighs 237 pounds.
He's down four pounds from his Combine weigh-in. The Browns envision Mingo as an all-out edge speed rusher, so his weight wouldn't be a major concern unless he dipped into the 220s like Aaron Maybin used to do in Buffalo. Mingo doesn't project as a great rookie run defender, but he'll be a sneaky favorite for 2013 Defensive Rookie of the Year on a highly underrated Cleveland defense. Apr 26 - 2:13 PM

Browns selected LSU OLB Barkevious Mingo with the No. 6 overall pick.

Mingo (6-foot-4, 241) tormented the SEC to the tune of 15 tackles for loss and eight sacks as a sophomore before his production dipped to 8.5 TFLs and 4.5 sacks last year. LSU coaches asked Mingo to work more in containment, but he failed to finish plays and must learn to play with better leverage. Still a highly explosive edge presence with big upside, Mingo is relentless with rare speed and length (33 3/4" arms). At the Combine, he ranked first among D-Linemen in the ten-yard split (1.55) and broad jump (10-foot-8), as well as second in the forty (4.58) and vertical (37"). Mingo will convert to outside linebacker in Cleveland's 3-4, where he'll be a natural fit. Jabaal Sheard may want to start packing his bags.

Appearing on NFL Network's Draft Kickoff show, Ian Rapoport reported the Falcons are interested in LSU DE/OLB Barkevious Mingo and Notre Dame TE Tyler Eifert if they can trade up.

Mingo is expected to be a top-ten pick, so it would likely take a monumental package to get there from the No. 30 pick the Falcons currently hold. Atlanta badly needs pass rush help, but Florida State's Bjoern Werner and Tank Carradine seem like more realistic options. Eifert is tentatively expected to be picked in the 12-18 range. He could be the heir apparent to Tony Gonzalez.

NFL Network's Albert Breer hears the Browns could be trying to trade up to No. 3 overall.

If the Chiefs and Jags select tackles Eric Fisher and Luke Joeckel, the scramble for pass rushers is going to be on. The Eagles, Lions and Browns are all interested in the position and ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Wednesday that Cleveland wants to get up for LSU DE/OLB Barkevious Mingo. They could also be looking at Oregon's Dion Jordan. The rebuilding Raiders could trade back and possibly still get the best 4-3 defensive tackle available, Florida's Sharrif Floyd.
Apr 25 - 9:16 AM

Appearing on NFL 32 Wednesday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported "there's some chatter" the Browns could trade up from No. 6 to select LSU DE/OLB Barkevious Mingo.

"It could be a frenetic first round," Schefter said. Mingo has been bandied about as a potential slider, but NFL front offices know better. This also bucks recent speculation that the Browns would prefer to trade down. The NFL Draft has always been hard to predict, but it's proving to be downright vexing this season.
Apr 24 - 6:01 PM

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora is hearing LSU DE/OLB Barkevious Mingo connected to the Eagles "more and more."

Mingo and his myriad question marks would be a leap of faith at No. 4, so it could be a sign the Eagles are serious about trading down. Mingo has 4.58 wheels, and athleticism to spare. He'd be a highly intriguing, if hard to predict, option on the edge in Philly's new 3-4 defense.

The Newark Star-Ledger confirms the Jets are "especially high" on LSU DE/OLB Barkevious Mingo.

ESPN New York, the Star-Ledger, ESPN's Adam Schefter, and SI's Peter King have now all linked Mingo to the Jets. So either the Jets are creating an enormous smokescreen or they're being transparent under rookie GM John Idzik. Idzik has made it clear the Jets would like to trade down from one of their spots in the top 13. They probably hope to secure Mingo with the other first-rounder.
Apr 22 - 12:27 AM

Citing a league source, ESPN New York's Rich Cimini reports Jets GM John Idzik has "sent out word" that he's interested in trading down from the No. 9 pick.

Cimini reports Idzik is trying to "stockpile picks," which was a strategy employed by his former employer, the Seahawks. (It happened to work out pretty well.) Cimini's "hunch" is the Jets will end up picking ten times in the draft, "with maybe a QB in the second round." Also keep in mind Seattle found its quarterback in the third round. The Jets currently have eight 2013 picks. If they stay put, Cimini reports they are "smitten" with explosive LSU edge rusher Barkevious Mingo.
Apr 21 - 3:12 PM

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, people around the NFL believe the Jets "would love" to draft LSU DE/OLB Barkevious Mingo with the No. 9 pick.

Schefter's report aligns with a recent one from SI's Peter King, who wrote Monday morning that Jets coach Rex Ryan is "awfully smitten" with Mingo. Mingo would give New York the explosive outside rusher Ryan has lacked throughout his head-coaching tenure. The Jets need players who can sack QBs and score TDs.
Apr 19 - 7:45 PM

SI's Peter King "hears" Jets coach Rex Ryan is "awfully smitten" with LSU DE/OLB Barkevious Mingo.

Mingo is one of the most athletic pass rushers in the draft, but is riddled with question marks. There are concerns about his rushing technique and tendency to play too high, while CBS' Dane Brugler believes Mingo lacks "growth potential." It would still be a surprise if Mingo fell past the teens.
Apr 15 - 10:20 AM

LSU DE/OLB Barkevious Mingo opted out of the bench press both at the Combine and the Tigers' Pro Day.

Per NFL.com's Gil Brandt, Mingo showed up in "magnificent shape" but "refused" to bench press at the LSU Pro Day. Teams won't have a bench-rep number on Mingo before the draft, likely because he'd perform poorly if he did bench. Concerns remain about Mingo's upper-body strength. Plenty of 3-4 teams will still be intrigued with Mingo's sky-high upside in the teens and twenties.

LSU DE/OLB Barkevious Mingo ran an official forty time of 4.58 at the NFL Scouting Combine.

It's freaky fast for a college defensive end. 6-foot-4, 241-pound Mingo will probably convert to 3-4 outside linebacker in the pros, but he's long on explosiveness. His ten-yard splits were timed at 1.55 and 1.60, demonstrating highly impressive short-area burst. Although opinions seem all over the map on Mingo, we suspect he still has a good chance to be drafted in the teens.
Feb 25 - 12:01 PM

LSU DE/OLB Barkevious Mingo measured 6-foot-4 1/4 and 241 pounds at Saturday's NFL Combine weigh-in.

If Mingo seems shorter than expected, it's because he plays very upright on tape and that's among the concerns for him among NFL evaluators. When Mingo makes himself an upright target for offensive linemen, he becomes easier to block. We still suspect the freakishly athletic Mingo will star in Combine workouts.
Feb 23 - 8:44 AM

NFL Network's Mike Mayock expects LSU DE/OLB Barkevious Mingo to fall into the late part of the first round, or perhaps even the second round, as a "developmental" project.

Mayock, like NFLN colleague Daniel Jeremiah, seems convinced Mingo has been vastly overrated by media draftniks. Mayock referred to Mingo -- a defensive end at LSU -- as a "developmental 3-4 outside linebacker" who will be drafted "in the 25-40 (pick) range." Both Jeremiah and Mayock are tuned into NFL personnel men's thinking, so we suspect decision makers have similar opinions on Mingo.
Feb 18 - 3:38 PM

Ex-NFL scout Daniel Jeremiah suggested that LSU DE Barkevious Mingo may be drafted lower than "people may think" after a disappointing junior year.

Mingo's sacks dipped from 8.0 as a sophomore to 4.5 as a junior. "There's some who aren't as high on him as people may think just because he played so light," said Jeremiah. "... You can watch him in four or five games and you can see him not make five plays. ... He did not have a good year. He was much better the year before. He played more snaps this year, which didn't help."
