Lions declared DE Ziggy Ansah, WLB DeAndre Levy, CB Adairius Barnes, LB Antwione Williams, OL Joe Dahl, OL Cornelius Lucas, and TE Orson Charles inactive for Week 3 against the Packers.
Kyle Van Noy (calf) will play, but the Lions are dangerously thin along the front seven. With the Packers also without five important defenders, this game has shootout potential. Sep 25 - 11:34 AM

Lions RE Ziggy Ansah (ankle) is expected to miss Week 4 against the Bears.

He's already been ruled out for Sunday's game in Green Bay. Ansah left last week's game against the Titans with a high-ankle sprain and will now get a second opinion on his MRI. There's no timetable for his return.

Lions RE Ziggy Ansah (ankle) has been ruled out for Week 3.

It's an upgrade to Aaron Rodgers' matchup. Ansah is Detroit's only legitimate edge-rush threat. The Lions will also be without WLB DeAndre Levy (quad).
Sep 23 - 4:06 PM

Lions RE Ziggy Ansah will get a second opinion on his injured ankle.

That's never a good sign. Ansah suffered a high-ankle sprain in Sunday's loss to Tennessee and is likely facing a multi-week absence. Kerry Hyder will start in his place.
Sep 22 - 4:36 PM

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Lions RE Ziggy Ansah suffered a high-ankle sprain Week 2 against the Titans.

Per RapSheet, Ansah will miss an "undetermined amount of time." If it's a true high-ankle sprain, Ansah will likely be out 2-4 weeks. But we've seen the term "high-ankle sprain" thrown around pretty loosely in recent years. Kerry Hyder saw extended run with Ansah out Sunday and already has three sacks.
Sep 19 - 7:54 PM

Lions RE Ziggy Ansah left Sunday's Week 2 game with a left ankle injury.

Ansah could put little weight on the leg as he made his way off the field, and eventually retreated to the locker room. It's a big loss for the Lions.
Sep 18 - 1:13 PM

Lions DL coach Kris Kocurek believes 20 sacks is a realistic possibility for RE Ziggy Ansah.

"He runs, he's tough, those are special traits for a guy like that. A lot of times you see big guys, they take plays off. I've never seen the guy take a play off," DC Teryl Austin said. "He's got a lot of room for growth still." Ansah was third in the league with 14.5 sacks last season, 2.5 behind J.J. Watt for the NFL lead. Already 27, Ansah is knocking on the door of a monster pay day.

Lions RE Ziggy Ansah hinted he's willing to play out the final two years of his deal without an extension.

Ansah is under contract for the next two seasons after the Lions exercised his fifth-year team option. "As of right now, I think you’ve got to take it step by step," Ansah said. "You’ve got to see how this season goes, and I’m just looking forward as far as having a great season for the team." Ansah has notched at least 7.5 sacks in each of his first three NFL campaigns, exploding for 14.5 last year. If the Lions don't lock him up this summer, it will likely be a lot more difficult in 2017.
May 5 - 2:21 PM

Lions exercised DE Ziggy Ansah's fifth-year option for 2017.

The option will be worth $12.7 million, a relative pittance for one of the most productive pass rushers in the game. Ansah has 30 sacks since entering the league as the No. 5 overall pick in 2013 including 14.5 last season. Despite the skyrocketing value of pass rushers, the Lions are reportedly not interested in signing Ansah to a long-term extension this offseason. If he puts up another double-digit sack campaign, that decision could end up looking foolish.
May 2 - 11:08 AM

The Detroit Free Press' Dave Birkett reports the Lions do not plan on signing DE Ziggy Ansah to a long-term extension this offseason.

Ansah is entering the final year of his rookie deal, but the Lions are fully expected to pick up his fifth-year option for 2017. Although Detroit can have Ansah under cheap control for the next two seasons, working out a long-term deal might be in their best interest. Ansah is an ascending edge player, and the market for pass rushers continues to skyrocket. Ansah has 30 sacks in three seasons including 14.5 last year.
Mar 21 - 10:58 AM

RE Ziggy Ansah left the Lions' Week 15 game against the Saints with an illness and is questionable to return.

He came out in the second quarter. This would be a big loss for the Lions as Ansah is tied for second in the league with 13.5 sacks. He recorded one tackle before exiting.

Lions RE Ziggy Ansah (groin) is active for Monday night's Week 4 game against the Seahawks.

He was listed as questionable after leaving last week's game early. Ansah hasn't made a ton of noise as a pass rusher with just six pressures through three weeks, but is playing top-notch run defense on the edge. Inactive for the Lions are Joique Bell (ankle), RG Larry Warford, WLB DeAndre Levy (hip), Brandon Pettigrew (hamstring), OT Corey Robinson, DT Jermelle Cudjo, and DE Phillip Hunt.

Lions DE Ziggy Ansah exited the team's Week 3 loss to the Broncos with a groin injury.

Ansah suffered the injury in the second half and did not return. Ansah was on the injury report last week with a back injury. His status for Week 4 will be updated later in the week.
Mon, Sep 28, 2015 08:59:00 AM

Lions RE Ziggy Ansah is targeting double-digit sacks.

Ansah had 7.5 sacks and a league-high 20 QB hits last season. He’s primed to take a step forward this year, but will see more double teams with the losses of Ndamukong Suh and Nick Fairley. Ansah is a strong bet to top the 64 percent of snaps he played in 2014.

The Lions are expecting a breakout season from third-year RE Ziggy Ansah.

Ansah is in his first full NFL offseason after sitting out last year's minicamp with a shoulder injury. He has 15.5 sacks through two seasons and the upside to be one of the league's top pass rushers. Ansah led the NFL with 20 quarterback hits in 2014. He turns 26 years old in late May.
