49ers WR Quinton Patton "rushed" for a three-yard touchdown in Friday night's third preseason game.
He was targeted once in the passing game, but it fell incomplete. Patton's touchdown came on a swing pass following a 27-yard run by Carlos Hyde. The score was recorded as a rushing play because Blaine Gabbert's pass was complete behind the line. Patton has been more involved than both Bruce Ellington and Torrey Smith this preseason. That, of course, isn't saying much. Ellington keeps getting hurt and Smith has drawn one measly preseason target. Aug 27 - 1:14 AM

49ers WR Quinton Patton sees "opportunity" in coach Chip Kelly's offense.

"There’s a lot of opportunity out there with coach Kelly coming in with his offense, and the offense slinging the ball around," Patton said. "It’s more uptempo." A Rascal-bound octogenarian is more uptempo than the 49ers offense of recent memory, so Kelly's system represents a dramatic change for the skill players. The increase in tempo matched with what should be negative game scripts will create more opportunities for the passing game, but it is unlikely those go to Patton. The underwhelming 2013 fourth-rounder has 472 yards total through three seasons.

49ers WR Quinton Patton's right arm is in a cast and he isn't participating in voluntary workouts.

Patton's injury is currently unknown, but he's missing out on quality install time in new coach Chip Kelly's offense. With DeAndre Smelter and Dres Anderson now healthy, and CFL import Eric Rogers now in the fold, Patton won't be gifted the No. 3 receiver gig like he was last season. He's on the bubble.

49ers WR Quinton Patton caught 3-of-5 targets for 37 yards in Sunday's Week 15 loss to the Bengals.

Patton is the 49ers' third receiver behind Anquan Boldin and Torrey Smith. He saw a bit more usage than normal on Sunday because Blaine Gabbert dropped back to pass a whopping 54 times in San Francisco's 24-14 loss.

Quinton Patton secured 3-of-5 targets for 70 yards in the 49ers' Week 9 win over the Falcons.

Patton corralled the 49ers' biggest passing play of Blaine Gabbert Day, securing a 41-yard connection and leading San Francisco in receiving yards. When Anquan Boldin (hamstring) is healthy, Patton is a reserve receiver along with Jerome Simpson behind starters Boldin and Torrey Smith.

Quinton Patton secured 2-of-3 targets for 38 yards and a touchdown in the 49ers' Week 6 win over Baltimore.

Good from 21 yards out, Patton's second-half TD was the first of his career. He is the Niners' third receiver behind Anquan Boldin and Torrey Smith.

Quinton Patton secured 2-of-3 targets for six yards in Week 5 against the Giants.

Patton wasn’t limited despite coming off a concussion. He was outproduced by Bruce Ellington and lost some snaps in three-wide sets. An afterthought in the 49ers' offense, Patton doesn't have more than four catches in any game.

Quinton Patton (concussion) is active for Week 5 against the Giants.

Patton was cleared after practicing on a limited basis this week. He'll play in three-wide sets behind Anquan Boldin and Torrey Smith. The 49ers inactives are TE Vernon Davis, OLB Ahmad Brooks, WR DeAndrew White, RB Mike Davis, LB Gerald Hodges, OG Ian Silberman, and NT Mike Purcell.

Quinton Patton (questionable, concussion) is expected to play in Sunday night's Week 5 game against the Giants.

Patton didn't get in any team reps this week, but is expected to be cleared. Even with Vernon Davis sidelined, Patton isn't more than the No. 3 pass-game option.

Quinton Patton caught 2-of-2 targets for 53 yards in San Francisco's Week 4 loss to the Packers.

Patton was a lone bright spot for San Fran in a 17-3 loss, looking like he was shot out of a cannon on both his catches. The 2013 fourth-rounder now has seven grabs for 85 yards. Patton is currently wholly without fantasy value, but that could change if Anquan Boldin got traded.

Quinton Patton caught one pass for eight yards in the 49ers' third preseason game.

Patton operated as the 49ers' third receiver, but that did not get him many snaps with the first-team offense. San Francisco ran a lot of two-wide formations with FB Bruce Miller or an extra tight end on the field. With an uncertain workload on an offense poised to struggle, Patton is well off the redraft radar.

The Sacramento Bee's Matt Barrows said WR Quinton Patton is being given "every opportunity" to win the 49ers' No. 3 receiver competition.

With Jerome Simpson suspended to start the year, Patton has a leg up on Bruce Ellington, who has missed the last two weeks with a leg strain. UDFA DeAndrew White has played well in camp, but he is a long-shot to pass Patton on the depth chart.

49ers wide receivers coach Ronald Curry said third-year WR Quinton Patton will get a "real opportunity" this season.

"Quinton Patton has always flashed," Curry said. "He’s always been dedicated, he’s always been focused, he’s always worked hard, he’s smart and it’s going to be interesting to see how he does in this camp." With Anquan Boldin and Torrey Smith firmly entrenched atop the depth chart, Patton will compete with Bruce Ellington and Jerome Simpson for snaps in three-wide sets.
