Quinton Patton ran ahead of Stevie Johnson during the 49ers' third preseason game.
The No. 3 spot behind starters Michael Crabtree and Anquan Boldin appears to be a fluid situation, with Brandon Lloyd also in the mix. There's even been speculation that Johnson and his $3.65 million salary could be a surprise cut Saturday. Patton, a 2013 fourth-round pick, has one catch for 10 yards through 78 preseason snaps. Johnson has two catches for 11 yards on 36 snaps. Aug 28 - 8:03 AM

ESPN's Bill Williamson would be "shocked" if second-year WR Quinton Patton is not on the 49ers' final roster.

Patton is battling fourth-round pick Bruce Ellington for No. 4 wide receiver duties, but Williamson assures there is room on the roster for both players. After missing a large chunk of his rookie season with a broken foot, Patton is once again sidelined with a foot injury and uncertain for the start of training camp.

The Sacramento Bee reports 49ers WR Quinton Patton's (foot) CT scan came back clean.

This simply confirms Patton avoided fractures after injuring his foot Monday. An MRI may be next to see if Patton has any ligament damage. This is good news, however, after Patton missed a large portion of his rookie season with a broken foot. He's competing for No. 4 duties with fourth-round pick Bruce Ellington.
Jun 4 - 2:11 PM

49ers WR Quinton Patton is awaiting CT scan results after injuring his foot in Monday's practice.

The injury is supposedly minor, but it's notable because Patton missed a huge chunk of his rookie season with a broken foot. Patton is competing with fourth-rounder Bruce Ellington for No. 4 duties after failing to make an impact in 2013. A serious injury would seriously dampen his 2014 fortunes.
Jun 3 - 5:17 PM

Coach Jim Harbaugh didn't express confidence in Quinton Patton as his No. 3 receiver Wednesday.

The 49ers' actions during free agency should be a wake-up call for Patton. Despite having Michael Crabtree, Anquan Boldin and Vernon Davis, they've reportedly been after just about every wideout available including Hakeem Nicks, Julian Edelman and DeSean Jackson. According to Harbs, the Niners need "a third guy who can get open and make plays. ... A playmaker. That’s what we're looking for."
Mar 26 - 10:58 AM

The 49ers' organization reportedly views 2013 fourth-round pick Quinton Patton as a future starter at wide receiver.

Patton is unlikely to get that opportunity in 2014, but it could certainly happen in a season or two. Patton finished his rookie year with just three catches for 34 yards in six appearances. He has forward-thinking WR5 value in Dynasty leagues.
Feb 19 - 9:50 PM

Quinton Patton caught one pass for two yards in San Francisco's NFC Championship Game loss to the Seahawks.

Combining the regular and postseason, Patton finishes his rookie year with all of five catches on seven targets. A darling of the pre-draft process, Patton's season was derailed by a broken foot that cost him the better part of three months. Patton made noise in the preseason, catching six passes for 87 yards and two touchdowns. Capable of playing both the slot and perimeter, Patton is a hold in Dynasty leagues. He'll get every opportunity to prove himself for the receiver-needy 49ers in 2014.
Jan 19 - 11:38 PM

Quinton Patton was held to a 23-yard reception in the 49ers' Divisional Round win over Carolina.

Patton picked up the game's initial first down on a 23-yard completion deep down the left sideline, beating Panthers S Mike Mitchell. He was silent thereafter as Anquan Boldin (8-136) hogged San Francisco's receiving production.
Jan 12 - 4:13 PM

Quinton Patton was held catch-less in the 49ers' Wild Card win at Green Bay.

Patton played in three-receiver sets, though the 49ers didn't use many of them, instead employing fullbacks and multiple tight ends. Patton will play the same role in the Divisional Round at Carolina.
Jan 5 - 8:18 PM

Quinton Patton caught two passes for 34 yards in Sunday's Week 17 win at Arizona.

Patton also took one handoff for 26 yards as he stepped into the No. 3 receiver role with Mario Manningham on IR. The fourth-round rookie was active for just the sixth time and previously had one catch for two yards. Patton will be a spot player at Green Bay as the Niners open the playoffs next week.

49ers WR Quinton Patton is active for Sunday's Week 17 game at Arizona.

With Mario Manningham on IR, Patton gets the nod ahead of an inactive Jon Baldwin. There are no surprises in the rest of the Niners' inactives: TE Derek Carrier,, OL Joe Looney, OL Ryan Seymour, LB Nick Moody and DL Quinton Dial.

49ers WR Quinton Patton is inactive for Week 14 against the Seahawks.

Patton wasn't on the Week 14 injury report, so he's a healthy scratch. Patton should see the field again before the 2013-14 season is through, but he's well off the re-draft radar.
Sun, Dec 8, 2013 03:10:00 PM

49ers rookie WR Quinton Patton is not on the Week 14 injury report.

He'll return from his foot fracture against Seattle. Patton was making moves up the depth chart before he got hurt, on the heels of an impressive preseason. He isn't on the re-draft radar, but has plenty of Dynasty league appeal. Patton figures to be San Francisco's No. 4 receiver Sunday, behind Anquan Boldin, Michael Crabtree, and situational deep threat Mario Manningham.

49ers WR Quinton Patton (foot) is listed as questionable for Week 13.

Beat writer Matt Barrows guesses it "might be one more week" before Patton plays in a game. He's recovering from a broken foot suffered all the way back in Week 4. Patton's impending return is a reminder that San Francisco's pass-catching corps is finally loading up. Michael Crabtree will debut on Sunday, and Mario Manningham just now getting his legs underneath him.

Quinton Patton (foot) practiced for the first time since Week 4 on Wednesday.

Patton broke his foot in the Week 4 Thursday night game against the Rams and has been sidelined ever since. He likely got in a limited session. We wouldn't expect the rookie to return to the field this week, but he should be back before the regular season is through. Patton will be the Niners' No. 4 receiver.
