Updating a previous item, Lions rookie RG Larry Warford injured his neck at Saturday's minicamp practice, but returned to action on Sunday.
"It gave everybody a little bit of scare when anybody goes down, but he bounced back from it quickly," coach Jim Schwartz said. "He could have gone through everything, but we limited him to just individual today." Warford will be fine for OTAs when they kick off next week. May 12 - 12:28 PM

Lions third-round OG Larry Warford exited Saturday's rookie minicamp practice with an apparent left arm injury.

Warford fell to the turf while blocking on a run play, and he stayed on the ground for upwards of a minute before being helped off by the training staff. The No. 65 overall pick was unable to return to action. Coach Jim Schwartz doesn't think it's a shoulder injury, but said the team will "err on the side of caution."

Lions agreed to terms with No. 65 overall pick OG Larry Warford on a four-year contract.

To date, Warford is the highest draft pick to sign. The former Kentucky Wildcat is a true power-blocking road grader at 6-foot-3, 332 pounds. Warford was expected to be selected higher than he was, and he even drew interest from the Rams with the No. 30 overall pick. The Lions may have gotten a steal in the third round. Warford is permanent-markered in as the starting right guard.

Lions coach Jim Schwartz said he isn't worried about third-round OG Larry Warford's weight.

"We got very comfortable with his personality at the Senior Bowl, his work ethic, and we don't anticipate that being a problem," Schwartz said. Warford weighed in at 332 pounds at the Combine, which is already big for a guard. And while at Kentucky, he reportedly got up around 350 pounds. If he can sustain his elite power while gaining enough quickness to get to the second level, Warford has a chance to be a steal. He's already penciled in as the Lions' starting right guard.

Lions selected Kentucky OG Larry Warford with the No. 65 overall pick.

A favorite of both NFL Network's Mike Mayock and Rotoworld's Josh Norris, Warford is a true road grader. The 6-foot-3, 332-pounder was a 38-game starter for the Wildcats and earned third-team All-America honors as a senior after not surrendering a single sack and only drawing two penalties. Though powerful with solid arm length (33 3/8"), Warford is short on athleticism (5.58 forty, 1.92 ten-yard split) and struggles when asked to execute second-level blocks. He's a phone-booth mauler. A game that stuck out on tape was Warford's manhandling of 360-pound John Jenkins in Kentucky-Georgia. He has an excellent chance to start at right guard come Week 1.

Kentucky OG Larry Warford ran forty times of 5.53 and 5.68 at the NFL Scouting Combine.

Quipped NFL Network's Mike Mayock, "Larry's not a forty guy. Larry's a phone-booth guy." In other words, Warford does his best work in small areas, getting his hands on opponents and erasing them from plays. A short-armed, 333-pound classic power blocker, Warford is expected to be a top-60 pick in April's draft.
Feb 23 - 11:51 AM

Kentucky OG Larry Warford performed 28 bench-press reps of 225 pounds at the Combine.

Warford, an old-school power blocker at 6-foot-3, 333, has short arms (31 7/8"). We expected slightly more reps, but 28 is by no means a poor number. Something in the teens or low twenties would have been concerning. Warford is a projected second-round pick. He's a mauling brawler in the running game.
