Jets RG Brian Winters received $15 million guaranteed in his four-year, $29-million extension.
It is a big guarantee for an upper-middle-class starter, and the $7.25-million average puts him inside the top-ten at the position. The Jets are obviously banking on the 25-year-old taking a step forward from solid starter to Pro-Bowl caliber during the life of the contract. The deal is great news for impending free agents like T.J. Lang, Ronald Leary, and Larry Warford. Jan 17 - 12:31 PM

Jets signed RG Brian Winters to a four-year extension through 2020.

The deal is reportedly worth around $8 million per year. Winters was set to hit free agency this spring, but the Jets locked him up before he could get to the open market. Winters finished the season on injured reserve because of a torn rotator cuff, but he has been a solid starter at right guard for the better part of the last two seasons after struggling on the left side early in his career. After undergoing shoulder surgery in late December, Winters may not be ready for training camp.

Jets RG Brian Winters (shoulder, I.R.) will undergo surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff.

Winters was placed on I.R. on Tuesday. He's looking at a lengthy recovery, which could affect Winters' free-agent market this offseason. The Jets are expected to have interest in re-signing him come March.

Jets placed RG Brian Winters (shoulder) on injured reserve, ending his season.

OT Donald Hawkins will take his place on the active roster. It's another blow to a Jets offensive line that has already lost starters Ryan Clady (shoulder), Breno Giacomini (back) and Nick Mangold (ankle). Winters is headed for free agency but GM Mike Maccagnan said re-signing him will be one of the team's top priorities this offseason. Dakota Dozier will fill in for Winters at right guard over the final two weeks.

NJ Advance Media's Connor Hughes believes re-signing contract-year RG Brian Winters "must be" Jets GM Mike Maccagnan's top priority.

Winters struggled early in his career after being selected in the third round of the 2013 draft, but he was able to develop into one of the league's better guards when he flipped from left to right guard in 2015. Winters has above-average marks at Pro Football Focus as both a run and pass blocker.

Jets RG Brian Winters suffered a concussion Week 4 against the Seahawks.

Winters suffered the injury when he head-butted Michael Bennett at the end of a second-quarter run. He never returned to the game. He is questionable at best for Week 5.

ESPN Jets reporter Rich Cimini believes it's a "make-or-break year" for OG Brian Winters.

The 72nd overall pick in the 2013 draft, Winters has made 18 career starts but is coming off a torn ACL and is no longer on "scholarship" with a new coaching staff in New York. After the Jets signed LG James Carpenter, Winters will be competing with several others at right guard and may dabble at center.

Jets placed LG Brian Winters on injured reserve with a torn ACL, ending his season.

A 2013 third-round pick out of Kent State, Winters was struggling across the board as a six-game starter. Oday Aboushi is next up on the depth chart.

The Jets fear a torn ACL for starting RG Brian Winters.

A miserable season got worse for the Jets on Sunday as it looks like they've lost both Winters and CB Dee Milliner (Achilles). Winters, a 2013 third-round pick, will have an MRI Monday to confirm.

Jets third-round pick Brian Winters has a "legitimate chance" to start at right guard.

A left tackle at Kent State, Winters will compete with veterans Stephen Peterman and Vlad Ducasse in training camp. The New York Daily News confirms Willie Colon is locked into the Jets' left guard job.

Jets agreed to terms with No. 72 overall pick OL Brian Winters on a four-year contract.

Winters (6-foot-4, 320) started 50 games at Kent State, 34 at left tackle and 16 at right tackle. Winters is a brawling phone booth blocker with an edge to him, and he's currently penciled in as the Jets' starting right guard.

The Jets will use No. 72 overall pick Brian Winters at right guard.

He'll compete with Vlad Ducasse and Stephen Peterman. Willie Colon will be the starting left guard. Winters played left tackle at Kent State, but was never considered there by NFL teams due to 32 3/4-inch arms. A brawler with a decorated wrestling history, we like Winters' chances of starting as a rookie.

Jets selected Kent State G Brian Winters with the No. 72 overall pick.

Winters (6-foot-4, 320) made 50 starts at Kent State and has a decorated wrestling background, which comes in handy in the trenches. Primarily a left tackle in college, Winters' 32 3/4-inch arms will kick him inside to guard. He blocks with a brawler's aggression and should have little trouble with the position switch. The Kent State product could immediately challenge for a starting job and his nastiness in the trenches will not go unnoticed.
