Cardinals ILB Kevin Minter has been practicing since August 25 after missing much of camp with a strained pectoral muscle.
He played in Arizona's preseason finale, grading out well per Pro Football Focus across 28 snaps. Minter is tentatively expected to open the season as a two-down player next to ex-Steeler Larry Foote. With one career NFL defensive snap to his name, Minter is a total wild card. He's not worthy of IDP investment, yet. Sep 1 - 11:37 PM

The Cardinals are considering holding out ILB Kevin Minter (pectoral) for the rest of the preseason.

Inside linebacker is a spot where the Cardinals can't afford any more issues. Karlos Dansby fled to the Browns as a free agent and Daryl Washington is suspended for the entire season. If rest doesn't fix Minter's pectoral, a last resort is going under the knife -- a procedure that often costs players 3-5 months. Raw special teamer Kenny Demens is behind Minter on the depth chart.

Cardinals second-year ILB Kevin Minter is making all the defensive calls after playing just one defensive snap as a rookie.

Minter is being thrust into the job after Arizona let Karlos Dansby go to the Browns and Daryl Washington was lost to a yearlong suspension. Minter is a downhill, thumping inside 'backer who excels against the run, but will stay on the field for passing downs if he remains the Cardinals' defensive playcaller. Minter is a big-time IDP breakout candidate at Washington's old playmaking role.

Kevin Minter and Larry Foote are working as the Cardinals' starting inside linebackers at OTAs.

They're being asked to "replace" All-Pro types Karlos Dansby and Daryl Washington on the interior of Todd Bowles' defense. Minter played one defensive snap as a 2013 rookie, while Foote is 34 years old and missed all but one game last season due to a torn biceps. In one offseason, the Cards have gone from having one of the NFL's top position groups to one of its most suspect.
Jun 2 - 2:56 PM

The Cardinals plan to plug 2013 second-round pick Kevin Minter into Karlos Dansby's vacated inside linebacker role.

Minter was the 45th overall pick in last April's draft, and potentially one of the reasons the Cardinals were comfortable not matching Dansby's deal with the Browns. Dansby racked up 122 tackles, 6.5 sacks, and a whopping 19 pass breakups last season. We can't expect the same numbers from Minter, but he'll be an IDP asset if he reaches 80 percent of Dansby's old production.

Cardinals GM Steve Keim said he still likes 2013 second-round ILB Kevin Minter.

Minter played special teams last season, seeing just one defensive snap. He was expected to challenge for a starting job with Daryl Washington suspended, but lost out to journeyman Jasper Brinkley. Keim's recent comments about being prepared to let free agent ILB Karlos Dansby walk certainly bring Minter into the picture. If Dansby isn't re-signed, Minter would be favored to start opposite Washington.
Feb 21 - 10:36 AM

Cardinals signed second-round ILB Kevin Minter to a four-year contract.

Minter is a violent, attacking linebacker who excels against the run. As Daryl Washington serves out his suspension, Minter is all but locked into a starting role next to Karlos Dansby in Todd Bowles' 3-4 defense.

Cardinals coach Bruce Arians confirmed No. 45 pick ILB Kevin Minter will immediately challenge for a starting spot.

With all-world ILB Daryl Washington suspended for the first month, the Cardinals have a big hole to fill at inside linebacker. Minter should be the favorite over journeyman types Jasper Brinkley and Lorenzo Alexander.

Cardinals selected LSU ILB Kevin Minter with the No. 45 overall pick.

It's a position of need for the Cardinals, who have Daryl Washington facing a four-game suspension and a massive hole next to him. Minter (5-foot-11 3/4, 246) was a 24-game starter in the middle of John Chavis' defense, logging 18.5 career tackles for loss, five sacks, and two forced fumbles. He ran 4.81 at the Combine with a 1.67 ten-yard split and 25 reps on the bench. Minter is better at shedding blocks than Manti Te'o, and plays with more physicality than Alec Ogletree, although he projects as a potential coverage liability. Like Curtis Lofton, Minter may have to open his career as a two-down 'backer.

Mike Jurecki of XTRA Phoenix reports the Cardinals are "likely going" to select a linebacker in the "next couple of rounds" of the draft.

Jurecki is "hearing" LSU ILB Kevin Minter "could be on the radar." The Cardinals signed Jasper Brinkley as a free agent to pair with star ILB Daryl Washington in the middle, but Washington was handed a four-game suspension earlier this month for violating the league's substance abuse policy. Minter and Manti Te'o are widely regarded as the top inside 'backer prospects left on the board.

LSU ILB Kevin Minter ran forty times of 4.67 and 4.72 at the Tigers' Pro Day.

The times are improvements on Minter's 4.81 at the Combine, although LSU has a faster track than Lucas Oil Stadium. Minter goes 6-foot, 246 and posted a 34 1/2-inch vertical. We expect him to be a top-75 pick in April's draft.

LSU ILB Kevin Minter measured 5-foot-11 7/8 and 246 pounds at the NFL Combine weigh-in.

He's more than two pounds shorter than his 6-foot-2, 245-pound college listing. "I'm 6-foot-1 with cleats on," Minter joked. Perhaps the safest of this year's top inside 'backers, Ogletree is considered a "late one, early two" draft prospect in the David Harris mold. The Jets got Harris with the 47th overall pick.

LSU ILB Kevin Minter received just a third-round grade from the NFL Draft Advisory Board before declaring.

Keep in mind the advisory board can be very conservative with these grades. ESPN's Mel Kiper believes Minter will be a late first- to second-round pick, while NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah has mocked Minter to the Steelers at No. 17. "Me and my family, we knew I had a chance to be in the first round," Minter said.
