Falcons coach Dan Quinn said CB Desmond Trufant remains in the concussion protocol.

Trufant did not practice on Wednesday, and it does not look like he will be available for Sunday's game against the Vikings. It is a big blow to the defense, especially with Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs coming to town.

Falcons CB Desmond Trufant suffered a concussion in Sunday's game against the Bucs.

Trufant got taken out by friendly fire in the first half. The Falcons waited almost the entirety of the third quarter before officially ruling him out. It's the first documented concussion of Trufan's pro carer. With slot CB Brian Poole (back) also knocked out Sunday, the Falcons are thin at corner.

Falcons LCB Desmond Trufant (chest) is participating in Tuesday's practice.

Trufant will likely be limited, but it is a big step in the right direction after a torn pectoral ended his 2016 campaign, especially considering he was expected to be held out of OTAs. Fresh off a five-year, $69 million extension, Trufant should be close to full health when training camp rolls around.

Falcons signed LCB Desmond Trufant to a five-year, $69-million extension through 2022.

Jordan Schultz of The Huffington Post reports the deal includes "nearly" $42 million guaranteed. It is a massive deal which rightfully puts Trufant among the top-paid cornerbacks in the league, and the $13.8-million, new-money average vaults him above the new deals A.J. Bouye and Stephon Gilmore signed last month. Trufant ended last season on injured reserve with a torn pectoral, but he is expected to be ready well before training camp.

Falcons LCB Desmond Trufant (chest) is expected to be ready for training camp.

Trufant will be held out of OTAs, but there's not much concern over his status. The Falcons are planning to extend him before Week 1. Despite coming off an injury-shortened 2016, Trufant could command top-10 corner money.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports the Falcons are close to reaching a long-term contract with CB Desmond Trufant.

The two sides opened talks at last week's Combine and should have a deal in place within 24 hours. Per Ledbetter, the deal is expected to land in the range of $12-14 million annually, which would make Trufant one of the highest paid corners in football. This would have been the last year of Trufant's rookie contract.

According to D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, signing CB Desmond Trufant to a long-term deal is the Falcons' No. 1 priority.

"He’s a very valuable asset to this team," said GM Thomas Dimitroff. "We’re going to get him healthy and signed up for years to come." The Falcons have over $29 million in salary cap room. Trufant missed the final two months of the season with a torn pectoral but should be ready for OTAs.

Falcons GM Thomas Dimitroff expects to extend contract-year CB Desmond Trufant "very soon."

The No. 22 overall pick of the 2013 draft is the Falcons' No. 1 cornerback. Going on 27, Trufant's 2016 was cut short by a torn pectoral. Trufant had previously never missed a game. Locking him up is a no-brainer for the NFC champions.

Desmond Trufant (torn pectoral) said he "should be" ready for OTAs.

Trufant's season ended in late November because of a torn pectoral which required surgery. "It’s coming along good," Trufant said of his recovery. "Every day I am doing a little more. Just taking it one day at a time. I feel better every day so I’m going to be better when I get back. I can already feel it." Atlanta could take it easy on Trufant during the offseason program, but he should be ready to go for training camp at the latest. Heading into the final year of his rookie deal, the Falcons will look to lock up Trufant with a long-term extension this offseason.

Falcons LCB Desmond Trufant has been diagnosed with a torn pectoral, and is done for the season.

It's a massive loss for a team trying to make the playoffs for the first time in four years. The No. 22 overall pick of the 2013 draft, Trufant has emerged as one of the league's best corners. Although still only 26, it's also a poorly timed injury with Trufant headed into the final year of his rookie deal. Due $8.026 million next season, he can't afford any letdown with his game as he seeks to get paid. Brian Poole and Jalen Collins will pick up the 2016 slack for the Falcons.
