Falcons CB Desmond Trufant (chest) is expected to be ready for training camp.
Trufant will be held out of OTAs, but there's not much concern over his status. The Falcons are planning to extend him before the start of the season. Despite coming off an injury-shortened 2016, Trufant could land top-10 corner money. Mar 29 - 6:01 PM

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports the Falcons are close to reaching a long-term contract with CB Desmond Trufant.

The two sides opened talks at last week's Combine and should have a deal in place within 24 hours. Per Ledbetter, the deal is expected to land in the range of $12-14 million annually, which would make Trufant one of the highest paid corners in football. This would have been the last year of Trufant's rookie contract.

According to D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, signing CB Desmond Trufant to a long-term deal is the Falcons' No. 1 priority.

"He’s a very valuable asset to this team," said GM Thomas Dimitroff. "We’re going to get him healthy and signed up for years to come." The Falcons have over $29 million in salary cap room. Trufant missed the final two months of the season with a torn pectoral but should be ready for OTAs.

Falcons GM Thomas Dimitroff expects to extend contract-year CB Desmond Trufant "very soon."

The No. 22 overall pick of the 2013 draft is the Falcons' No. 1 cornerback. Going on 27, Trufant's 2016 was cut short by a torn pectoral. Trufant had previously never missed a game. Locking him up is a no-brainer for the NFC champions.

Desmond Trufant (torn pectoral) said he "should be" ready for OTAs.

Trufant's season ended in late November because of a torn pectoral which required surgery. "It’s coming along good," Trufant said of his recovery. "Every day I am doing a little more. Just taking it one day at a time. I feel better every day so I’m going to be better when I get back. I can already feel it." Atlanta could take it easy on Trufant during the offseason program, but he should be ready to go for training camp at the latest. Heading into the final year of his rookie deal, the Falcons will look to lock up Trufant with a long-term extension this offseason.
Feb 7 - 12:44 PM

Falcons LCB Desmond Trufant has been diagnosed with a torn pectoral, and is done for the season.

It's a massive loss for a team trying to make the playoffs for the first time in four years. The No. 22 overall pick of the 2013 draft, Trufant has emerged as one of the league's best corners. Although still only 26, it's also a poorly timed injury with Trufant headed into the final year of his rookie deal. Due $8.026 million next season, he can't afford any letdown with his game as he seeks to get paid. Brian Poole and Jalen Collins will pick up the 2016 slack for the Falcons.

Falcons declared CB Desmond Trufant, P Matt Bosher, RB Terron Ward, OG Wes Schweitzer, DT Ra'Shede Hageman, DT Cliff Matthews, and S Sharrod Neasman inactive for Week 12 against the Cardinals.

Trufant may need season-ending surgery to repair a torn pec. He was listed as questionable after practicing on a limited basis all week. Trufant's loss is a massive upgrade to Larry Fitzgerald's Week 12 matchup.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Falcons CB Desmond Trufant may need season-ending surgery to repair a torn pectoral.

Trufant has been listed with a shoulder injury, but he also suffered a torn pectoral Week 9 against the Bucs. Trufant had been holding out hope he could play through the issue, but he is expected to sit out this week and could end up missing the rest of the season. Easily the best corner on the roster, Trufant's absence will be a big one for an improving defense.

Falcons CB Desmond Trufant (shoulder) is a game-time decision for Week 12 against the Cardinals.

Trufant was limited in practice throughout the week. Beat writers seem to believe there is a legitimate chance he won't play against the Cardinals, which would upgrade Larry Fitzgerald's matchup. Trufant is one of the NFL's rare No. 1 cornerbacks who will chase No. 1 wide receivers into the slot.

Falcons CB Desmond Trufant (shoulder) was limited in Wednesday's practice.

Trufant practiced Monday and bounced back to practice on Wednesday, which is a good sign for his Week 12 availability. Always-reliable Falcons reporter Vaughn McClure did suggest that Trufant may not yet be ready to return, although he was just speculating. We'll keep close tabs on Trufant all week.

Falcons CB Desmond Trufant (shoulder) returned to practice Monday.

The practice puts Trufant on track to return this week. The Falcons' best corner, Trufant could be asked to shadow Larry Fitzgerald this week.

Falcons CB Desmond Trufant (shoulder) has been ruled out for Week 10 against the Eagles.

It's a boost for rookie Carson Wentz, but the Eagles' outside receivers haven't been producing at all, even against bottom-barrel competition. At the end of the day, Trufant's loss shouldn't be felt too much in this spot. Jordan Matthews plays mostly in the slot, and Trufant was never going to cover him much. In Trufant's absence, Jalen Collins will start opposite Robert Alford.

Falcons CB Desmond Trufant (shoulder) did not practice Monday.

Per coach Dan Quinn, Trufant is getting a second opinion. Trufant left Thursday night's game early with a left shoulder injury. He was seen on the sidelines during the second half, suggesting the injury is not terribly serious. Still, his availability for this week is in question.

Falcons CB Desmond Trufant left Thursday's Week 9 game against the Buccaneers with a left shoulder injury and will not return.

He logged four tackles before exiting early in the second quarter. Trufant had been shadowing Mike Evans. Now Evans will likely see a heavy dose of second-year corner Jalen Collins. That's a mismatch the Bucs can exploit.

Falcons exercised LCB Desmond Trufant's fifth-year option for 2017.

As expected. Trufant will earn $8.026 million in 2017. The 25-year-old enjoyed a breakout year in 2015, earning PFF's 13th-highest cornerback grade while attending his first Pro Bowl. Trufant has never missed a game in his three-year NFL career. Picking up his fifth-year option gives the two sides more time to work on an extension.
