SS Johnathan Cyprien (concussion) has been ruled out of the Jaguars' Week 2 matchup with the Redskins.

Cyprien suffered a concussion against the Eagles Week 1, and was not able to practice all week. Josh Evans will likely start in Cyprien's place on Sunday.

Jaguars SS Johnathan Cyprien is in the concussion protocol.

Cyprien, a key piece of a rapidly improving defense, appeared to briefly lose consciousness when his head hit the turf in Week 1. It's not a coincidence that Nick Foles and the Chip Kelly offense finally started clicking after Cyprien left. Robert Griffin III should be hoping the second-year man doesn't get cleared before Sunday.

Jaguars SS Johnathan Cyprien left Sunday's Week 1 game against the Eagles with a possible concussion and is done for the day.

Cyprien hit his head very hard on the turf and may have briefly lost consciousness. The second-year breakout candidate walked under his own power, presumably for concussion testing.

Jaguars.com considers second-year SS Johnathan Cyprien the most-likely Jag to "rise" in 2014.

Cyprien was routinely torched his first two months in the league, but steadied down the stretch. He's one of the reasons the Jags went 4-4 over their final eight games. Cyprien figures to remain a work-in-progress in coverage this season, but could be a difference maker against the run.

Jaguars rookie SS Johnathan Cyprien (hamstring) is listed as doubtful for Week 15.

It's a big loss for Jacksonville if the other team had a better quarterback capable of exploiting Cyprien's absence. Instead, the Bills have E.J. Manuel. Cyprien has played every one of the Jaguars' defensive snaps in 2013.

Jaguars activated rookie SS Johnathan Cyprien (hamstring) from active/PUP.

He's resumed practicing in fully. Cyprien strained his hamstring a week before camp started. He was penned in as the Jaguars' starting strong safety beforehand, and should have enough practice time left to solidify his starting job. He could make his preseason debut on Saturday against the Jets.

Jaguars placed SS Johnathan Cyprien (hamstring) on the active/NFI list.

Cyprien strained his hamstring working out in Miami last week. The No. 33 overall pick in this year's draft is expected to begin his first training camp sometime next week. Cyprien remains penned in as the Jags' starting strong safety after starring during OTAs and minicamp.

Jaguars signed second-round SS Johnathan Cyprien to a four-year contract.

Along with No. 2 overall pick Luke Joeckel, the Jags are counting on Cyprien to step right in as a starter and make a big impact. He was reportedly the MVP of OTAs and minicamps and figures to be even better once the pads come on. Cyprien couples excellent range with the toughness of an in-the-box safety.

The Florida Times-Union lists rookie SS Johnathan Cyprien as the Jaguars' MVP of OTAs and minicamps, "in a landslide."

The No. 33 overall pick, Cyprien is being counted on to play significant snaps as a rookie. The Jaguars expect him to open the season in a starting role as an in-the-box safety opposite Dwight Lowery.

The Jaguars are expected to use rookie Johnathan Cyprien "close to the line of scrimmage" as an in-the-box strong safety.

The 33rd pick in the draft, Cyprien is locked in as a Week 1 starter and will be a sneaky candidate to lead Jacksonville in tackles. Jaguars DBs coach DeWayne Walker was impressed with Cyprien at rookie minicamp. "He’s tough, he has really good instincts and I think he’s smart," said Walker. "After one day, you see the things on the field that we thought we would get out of him."

Jaguars second-round SS Johnathan Cyprien has been a standout at rookie camp.

"That was one guy who really showed up in my eyes," coach Gus Bradley said. "I was very pleased with his start." Cyprien had one interception in practice, and the Associated Press' Mark Long added that the No. 33 overall pick was a "man among boys." Cyprien is a player to target in IDP leagues.

Jaguars coach Gus Bradley says No. 33 overall pick Johnathan Cyprien will play strong safety in Jacksonville.

Dwight Lowery is the free safety, and Josh Evans may be his heir apparent. Cyprien showed terrific range at Senior Bowl practices, but is 6-foot, 217 and was primarily an in-the-box safety at Florida International. Playing behind the Jaguars' leaky front seven, Cyprien will be a rookie to target in IDP leagues.

Jaguars selected Florida International SS Johnathan Cyprien with the No. 33 overall pick.

Cyprien (6-foot, 217) was a 45-game starter at FIU and is the school's record holder in both career tackles (365) and forced fumbles (6). Cyprien added seven interceptions. Used primarily as a box strong safety in the Sun Belt, Cyprien offers tremendous upside because he also has great range. NFL Films' Greg Cosell and Rotoworld's Josh Norris have both opined that Cyprien may develop into this year's top safety -- ahead of first-rounders Kenny Vaccaro and Eric Reid. Cyprien ran forty times of 4.64 and 4.65 at his March 16 Pro Day and did 18 reps on the bench. He has some Dashon Goldson to his game.
