Jaguars RB/WR Denard Robinson is also taking snaps under center in OTAs.
Asked if Robinson was taking snaps as a quarterback or Wildcat specialist, coach Gus Bradley said "we don't have to tell you." It would be far from surprising if the Jags installed a Wildcat package for the long-time college signal caller, but Robinson isn't going to pop up on the quarterback depth chart. That ship has sailed for "Shoelace." May 15 - 4:45 PM

Updating a previous item, GM Dave Caldwell stated in a Tuesday radio interview that the Jaguars plan to give fifth-round pick Denard Robinson "10 to 15 snaps" per game as a rusher and receiver.

Radio host Alex Marvez tweeted during or immediately after the interview that Caldwell had penciled in Robinson for "10-15 touches a game & returning kicks." In a column recapping the interview, Marvez wrote Caldwell was actually speaking about offensive snaps. Big difference. Robinson is good enough to eventually make himself impossible for an otherwise bad Jaguars team to keep off the field, but he's not scheduled to play a major offensive role initially.

Speaking in a Tuesday radio interview, GM David Caldwell said the Jaguars hope to get fifth-round pick Denard Robinson 10-15 touches per game as a rookie.

It's a huge number — likely an unrealistic one — but proof of how high the Jags are on the former quarterback's playmaking ability. The vast majority of Robinson's touches should come as a change-of-pace running back, but Caldwell said he'll also see some snaps as a slot receiver. The Jags plan to feature Robinson on returns. It sounds like Robinson will beat out veteran Justin Forsett to be Maurice Jones-Drew's primary backup if all goes to plan for the Jags. Robinson is an intriguing Dynasty-league prospect.

Fifth-round pick Denard Robinson lined up at tailback and receiver as the Jaguars opened rookie minicamp on Friday.

Robinson "broke several long runs" and "caught all but one pass" intended for him while working with the first-team offense. "I know he’s certainly a weapon from looking at all his college film," observed playcaller Jedd Fisch. "Now, it’s a matter of what can he do best for us." Robinson will get plenty of running back reps in full-squad OTAs as Maurice Jones-Drew continues his foot rehab.

The Jaguars' website confirms fifth-round pick Denard Robinson will play running back in Jacksonville.

The Jags drafted Ace Sanders to be their slot receiver of the future. A QB at Michigan, Robinson experimented at wideout before the draft but flopped at the Senior Bowl. Running back was always going to be his best NFL fit. At 5-foot-10, 199, Robinson's dimensions are similar to Chris Johnson's and he runs 4.43 with lateral agility to make defenders miss. With Maurice Jones-Drew entering a contract year and coming off Lisfranc surgery, Robinson will be a deep fantasy sleeper as a rookie. MJD's current backup is scatback Justin Forsett.

VP Tony Khan hinted that Denard Robinson will be a running back with the Jaguars.

It's the right move for the Jags and the right move for the sake of Robinson's career. As Khan noted, had Football Outsiders listed Robinson at running back in their speed score system, he would've been the No. 3 back in the draft. He rushed 723 times for 4,495 yards and 42 scores as a quarterback at Michigan, showing truly unique running ability. There's a sliver of Dynasty appeal here as Maurice Jones-Drew heads into the final year of his contract.

Jaguars selected Michigan RB/WR/QB Denard Robinson with the No. 135 overall pick.

A spectacularly versatile athlete, Robinson (5-foot-10 1/2, 199) was introduced as a running back on draft day. He could also play receiver and return kicks in the pros after starting for three seasons as the Wolverines' quarterback. A game-breaking runner with lateral jukes and 4.43 long speed, Robinson rushed 723 times for 4,495 yards (6.22 YPC) and 42 touchdowns at Michigan. He only caught three passes. Robinson is best suited to play running back -- his skills are not all that dissimilar from Chris Johnson's -- but his final NFL position figures to be determined during OTAs.

According to NFL.com, doctors now believe that there is no long-term damage in Michigan WR/QB Denard Robinson's ulnar nerve.

Robinson's right (throwing) arm was stepped on back in October, causing the nerve to go dead. He lost feeling in two fingers and then aggravated the injury two weeks later, causing numbness that lasted through most of the offseason scouting process. However, Robinson now reportedly has twice the strength in his right hand as he did at the Combine. The nerve is regenerating.

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel's Bob McGinn reports some teams are "very concerned" about Michigan WR/QB Denard Robinson's nerve issue, and that his "fate rests" on medical rechecks.

According to McGinn, the ailment affects Robinson's ability to open and close his hand. It's the reason Robinson was switched out from under center his senior year at Michigan. A player without a position, Robinson's draft stock could take a major hit if teams aren't convinced he's healthy.
Apr 8 - 1:17 PM

Michigan QB Denard Robinson performed running back drills for NFL scouts at the Wolverines' Pro Day.

Rotoworld draft columnist Eric Stoner has studied Robinson's Michigan tape and believes he's best suited as tailback. We're on board. The Jaguars even sent their running backs coach to check Robinson out. Robinson goes 5-foot-11, 199 and ran a 4.43 forty at the Combine. He struggled as a receiver at the Senior Bowl.

Some teams at the NFL Combine asked Michigan QB/WR Denard Robinson if he's willing to play cornerback.

Robinson says he's willing to play any position. A truly special athlete, Robinson helped his stock on Indy with a 4.43 forty, 36 1/2" vertical, 4.22 20-yard shuttle, and 10-foot-3 broad jump at 5-foot-11, 199. He's still going to be a one- or two-year conversion project unless he plays running back in the pros.
Feb 24 - 7:25 PM

Michigan QB/WR Denard Robinson ran forty times of 4.34 and 4.45 at the NFL Scouting Combine.

The 4.34 -- Robinson's first run -- might be more indicative of his true straight-line speed because he appeared overly anxious on his second run, the 4.45. The Scouting Combine later credited Robinson with a 4.43 "official" forty. Regardless, Robinson obviously has blazing speed and we'd love to see him get a look at running back as a 5-foot-11, 199-pound homerun hitter. Attempting to play wide receiver, Robinson struggled at the Senior Bowl.
Feb 24 - 11:58 AM

Michigan WR Denard Robinson measured 5-foot-10 1/2 and 199 pounds at Friday's NFL Combine weigh-in.

He's gained three pounds since the Senior Bowl. Although we'd love to see Robinson get a look at running back in the pros, he seems dead set on trying to become a wide receiver and return man. His draft value is on day three.
