Bills WR Marquise Goodwin said he is "banged up" following his attempt to qualify for the Rio Olympics.
"I'm going to rest first," Goodwin said of his plans. "I haven't had any rest in a long time, so my body is banged up — I feel like I played eight or nine games and I'm in week 10 already." Goodwin reportedly tweaked his hamstring during Olympic Trials this week, an ailment which could have contributed to his failure to qualify in the long jump. With only a month before training camp, he might need to be eased into action. Jul 4 - 10:59 AM

Bills WR Marquise Goodwin failed to qualify for the Rio Olympics when he managed an 8.17-meter long jump at Sunday's Olympic trials.

Goodwin needed to finish top three in the event to qualify for this summer's Olympic games. The best long jump among American athletes was 8.25 meters. The Bills were expected to move on from Goodwin if he qualified, but he is now expected to report to training camp. A 2013 third-round pick out of Texas, Goodwin has managed 20 career receptions through three NFL seasons.

Joe Buscaglia of WBKO Buffalo expects the Bills to move on from WR Marquise Goodwin if he qualifies for the Olympics.

It's an issue of timing. The long jump, which is Goodwin's main event, takes place on August 13. Even if Goodwin makes it back quickly, he'll have already missed half of training camp. Goodwin is undersized (5'9/179) and might be even slimmer after Olympic training all summer. Even if Goodwin had passed on the Olympics, he would have faced long odds to make the Bills' 53-man roster.

Bills coach Rex Ryan admitted that Marquise Goodwin's prolonged absence could hurt his chances of making the team.

Goodwin is training for the Olympics as a long jumper and the team doesn't expect him back anytime soon. He's missed all voluntary workouts. "We are proud of the fact that he is representing our country, he is representing our football team, our community," said Ryan. "But yeah it is hurting him." Goodwin caught just two passes last year and is firmly on the roster bubble.

Bills WR Marquise Goodwin said he will attempt to qualify for the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

A world-class long jumper, Goodwin will likely miss the offseason program and, if he qualifies, training camp. Goodwin said he will talk to the Bills about potentially missing time, but it is unclear if Buffalo would be willing to wait on the situational receiver. Goodwin is owed $675,000 in the final year of his rookie contract.

ESPN Bills reporter Mike Rodak expects WR Marquise Goodwin to be traded or released.

The speedster simply hasn't taken off since being the No. 78 overall pick of the 2013 draft, and is having trouble cracking a newly-crowded receiver corps. Goodwin's sprinter speed will earn him a look elsewhere if he gets cut loose, but it's not looking like he'll ever translate track to football.

ESPN Bills reporter Mike Rodak doesn’t have Marquise Goodwin on his initial 53-man roster projection.

Goodwin is behind Sammy Watkins, Robert Woods, Percy Harvin, Chris Hogan, and special teamer Marcus Easley entering training camp. Rex Ryan’s history of keeping situational deep threats (T.J. Graham, Clyde Gates) could ultimately give Goodwin the edge over Hogan. Seventh-round WR Dez Lewis is a candidate to open the year on PUP.
