Goodwin is behind Sammy Watkins, Robert Woods, Percy Harvin, Chris Hogan, and special teamer Marcus Easley entering training camp. Rex Ryan’s history of keeping situational deep threats (T.J. Graham, Clyde Gates) could ultimately give Goodwin the edge over Hogan. Seventh-round WR Dez Lewis is a candidate to open the year on PUP.

Bills WR Marquise Goodwin won a silver medal in the long jump at the Pan Am Games Wednesday.

Goodwin, the two-time NCAA long jump champ while at Texas and a London Olympian, leaped 8.27 meters. He'll return to the Bills in time for training camp and fight for a roster spot a a situational deep threat. He's far better at leaping than at football.

It took Goodwin just one jump. He leaped 8.5 meters (26.41 feet), and only needed to beat 8.0 meters to qualify for Wednesday night's finals, which can be seen on ESPN2. Goodwin failed to qualify for the World Championships last month when he finished fourth in the long jump at the U.S. Championships.

Goodwin's jump was 27-feet, 5 1/2 inches. He needed a top-three finish to secure a spot at the World championships. Goodwin qualified for the 2012 Summer Olympics in the long jump, where he placed 10th. If he finishes in the top three at this weekend's meet and goes over 8.10 meters, he'll qualify for the World Championships in Beijing.
