Browns agreed to terms with TE Darren Fells, formerly of the Lions, on a three-year, $12 million contract.
Fells, 32 next month, appeared in all 16 games for the Lions last season, tying a career best with three touchdowns, but caught just 17 passes. He's being brought in as a blocking complement to sophomore David Njoku. Mar 14 - 9:13 AM

Darren Fells hauled in 2-of-4 targets for 26 yards and a touchdown in the Lions' Week 6 loss to the Saints.

Fells came close to this third touchdown in the last two games when he was tackled at the one on fourth down just before halftime, but he was able to close the deal with a 22-yard touchdown up the seam in the third quarter. Fells does not look like he will be more than a touchdown-or-bust fantasy option, but his presence means Eric Ebron cannot be used in fantasy lineups moving forward.

Lions TE Darren Fells caught 2-of-2 targets for 24 yards and two touchdowns in the team's Week 5 loss to the Panthers.

Fells also caught four balls for 40 yards in Detroit's Week 4 game, so this wasn't entirely a fluke. Still, his emergence as any kind of passing-game factor has been a blow to Eric Ebron's usage. (And Ebron hasn't helped himself, of course, with a flurry of drops.) It will still be hard to trust Fells as a streamer in Week 6 at New Orleans. His primary role is to block on the line.

Lions OC Jim Bob Cooter expects to use more two tight end sets with Darren Fells.

"We're excited about Darren as a blocker and receiver. He's a really good blocking guy. He’ll get plenty of use," said Cooter. The Lions project for fewer three-wide sets with Anquan Boldin gone, but Fells isn't a threat to Eric Ebron's targets. Fells should upgrade Ameer Abdullah and Detroit's run game.

Lions GM Bob Quinn believes newly-signed TE Darren Fells has some upside as a receiver.

Fells will be 31 soon and has 40 catches in three NFL seasons, but the Lions think he can offer more. "He’s a big, primarily blocking tight end," Quinn said, "but we think we can utilize him in other areas as well because he’s a really athletic guy for being so big." Perhaps Fells falls into some desperation fantasy value if something happens to Eric Ebron, but even that seems highly unlikely.

Lions signed TE Darren Fells, formerly of the Cardinals, to a one-year, $1.5 million contract.

Fells was non-tendered by the Cardinals as a restricted free agent. The 6-foot-7, 281-pound onetime basketball player doesn't offer much as a receiver (14 catches last season) but can hold his own as a blocker. It's unclear if signing Fells takes the Lions out of the mix for Jared Cook, who had also been on their radar. Eric Ebron is still locked in as Detroit's receiving tight end.

Restricted free agent TE Darren Fells is a non-tender candidate.

Fells had a decreased role last year, playing 371 snaps as a blocker behind Jermaine Gresham. The Cardinals want to avoid paying him $1.8 million on a low tender. Fells should re-sign closer to the $600K he made in 2016.

Cardinals declared TE Darren Fells, TE Gerald Christian, WR Chris Hubert, OLB Alex Okafor, G/T Cole Toner, DT Olsen Pierre, DT Xavier Williams, and DT Ed Stinson inactive for Week 8 at Carolina.

Jermaine Gresham will be a full-time tight end with Fells (shoulder) down.

Cardinals TE Darren Fells is week to week with a shoulder injury.

He's been ruled out for Week 5. The blocker has eight catches through four games.

Cardinals TE Darren Fells secured 2-of-3 targets for 44 yards in Sunday's third preseason game.

His big play was a 40-yard gain delivered by Carson Palmer with John Brown (concussion) and Larry Fitzgerald (knee) getting the night off. A former pro basketball player, Fells has more athleticism than his pass-catching track record indicates, but he was not a big part of the Cardinals' passing game last season and it's difficult to envision his role growing much. Fells may end up rotating with Jermaine Gresham and Troy Niklas.

Cardinals TE Darren Fells has dropped roughly 20 pounds since last season.

Fells is listed at 281 pounds on the Cardinals' website, but it sounds like he's closer to the 265 range nowadays. Carson Palmer said Fells had the "best offseason" on the team. Fells' 28 targets were 41st among tight ends last season despite him appearing in 16-of-18 games. He's not on the fantasy map.

Cardinals re-signed exclusive rights free agent TE Darren Fells to a one-year contract.

He'll make the minimum salary and be a restricted free agent in 2017. Turning 30 in April, Fells easily held off Troy Niklas for the Cardinals' starting job this past season, collecting 21-311-3 receiving. Fells blocked poorly in both the run and pass games, however, and should not be guaranteed first-string status in 2016. Niklas needs to get healthy and stay healthy.

Darren Fells caught 2-of-4 targets for 36 yards and a touchdown in the Cardinals' NFC Championship Game loss to the Panthers.

Fells' most notable first-half play came on a hurdling run after catch that resulted in Panthers WLB Thomas Davis' game-ending arm injury. Fells caught Carson Palmer's lone touchdown pass, beating Carolina's zone up the seam for a 15-yard score. Primarily a blocking tight end, Fells is an impending restricted free agent. Fells turns 30 this April.

Darren Fells (shoulder) is probable for Week 10.

Fells practiced in full coming off Arizona's bye. His return should result in fewer snaps for Jermaine Gresham and Troy Niklas.

Darren Fells (shoulder) has been ruled out for Week 8 against the Browns.

He didn't practice this week and was never expected to play. Fells should return following Arizona's Week 9 bye.
