Date:

Cardinals TE Darren Fells is week to week with a shoulder injury.

He's been ruled out for Week 5. The blocker has eight catches through four games.
Oct 6 - 4:33 PM

Cardinals TE Darren Fells secured 2-of-3 targets for 44 yards in Sunday's third preseason game.

His big play was a 40-yard gain delivered by Carson Palmer with John Brown (concussion) and Larry Fitzgerald (knee) getting the night off. A former pro basketball player, Fells has more athleticism than his pass-catching track record indicates, but he was not a big part of the Cardinals' passing game last season and it's difficult to envision his role growing much. Fells may end up rotating with Jermaine Gresham and Troy Niklas.
Aug 28 - 6:38 PM

Cardinals TE Darren Fells has dropped roughly 20 pounds since last season.

Fells is listed at 281 pounds on the Cardinals' website, but it sounds like he's closer to the 265 range nowadays. Carson Palmer said Fells had the "best offseason" on the team. Fells' 28 targets were 41st among tight ends last season despite him appearing in 16-of-18 games. He's not on the fantasy map.
Jun 8 - 1:25 PM

Cardinals re-signed exclusive rights free agent TE Darren Fells to a one-year contract.

He'll make the minimum salary and be a restricted free agent in 2017. Turning 30 in April, Fells easily held off Troy Niklas for the Cardinals' starting job this past season, collecting 21-311-3 receiving. Fells blocked poorly in both the run and pass games, however, and should not be guaranteed first-string status in 2016. Niklas needs to get healthy and stay healthy.
Feb 1 - 3:45 PM

Darren Fells caught 2-of-4 targets for 36 yards and a touchdown in the Cardinals' NFC Championship Game loss to the Panthers.

Fells' most notable first-half play came on a hurdling run after catch that resulted in Panthers WLB Thomas Davis' game-ending arm injury. Fells caught Carson Palmer's lone touchdown pass, beating Carolina's zone up the seam for a 15-yard score. Primarily a blocking tight end, Fells is an impending restricted free agent. Fells turns 30 this April.
Jan 24 - 10:29 PM

Darren Fells (shoulder) is probable for Week 10.

Fells practiced in full coming off Arizona's bye. His return should result in fewer snaps for Jermaine Gresham and Troy Niklas.
Fri, Nov 13, 2015 05:46:00 PM

Darren Fells (shoulder) has been ruled out for Week 8 against the Browns.

He didn't practice this week and was never expected to play. Fells should return following Arizona's Week 9 bye.
Fri, Oct 30, 2015 05:27:00 PM

Cardinals TE Darren Fells is out 2-3 weeks with a shoulder sprain.

It sounds more like a dislocation or separation. Mainly a blocker, Fells' absence will result in more snaps for Jermaine Gresham and Troy Niklas.

Darren Fells exited the Cardinals' Week 6 game against the Steelers with a left shoulder injury and is questionable to return.

Fells left in the second quarter. He caught one of two targets for nine yards before exiting. Jermaine Gresham is next up on Arizona's tight end depth chart.

Darren Fells (hip) was limited at Wednesday's practice.

Fells has been targeted just five times since his 4-82-1 outburst Week 1. He's a blocking tight end in Bruce Arians' wideout-centric passing attack.
Wed, Oct 14, 2015 04:19:00 PM

Darren Fells wasn't targeted in Arizona's Week 2 win over the Bears.

Jermaine Gresham drew one target. Both players can be forgotten in all formats of fantasy.
Sun, Sep 20, 2015 06:05:00 PM

Saints TE Darren Fells caught 4-of-5 targets for 82 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's Week 1 win over the Saints.

He outproduced Jermaine Gresham (1-4). Fells is primarily a blocking tight end, and the Saints pretty much ignored him on his pass routes. Fells played in ten games last season, starting five. He caught five passes for 71 yards. Don't bother picking up Fells on fantasy waiver wires this week.
Sun, Sep 13, 2015 07:28:00 PM

Coach Bruce Arians suggested Darren Fells is locked in as his starting tight end.

"It’s going to really, really hard to beat him out," Arians said. At 6'7/281, Fells fits the Arians mold as a tight end that can serve as a sixth offensive lineman and set the edge. 2014 second-round pick Troy Niklas is listed second on the depth chart.
Tue, Aug 11, 2015 07:47:00 AM

Cardinals TE Darren Fells played a season-high 47 snaps in Thursday night's Week 15 win over the Rams.

Fells has played 92 snaps the past two weeks after being in on 57 total plays the previous 12 games. The Cardinals are said to be "really excited about the future" with Fells. Of those 92 snaps the past two weeks, Fells has been asked to block on 72 of them. He's been targeted just four times, catching one ball for six yards. Fells (6-foot-7, 281) is a former basketball player and the brother of Giants TE Daniel Fells. Darren will turn 29 next April. Coach Bruce Arians' offense doesn't feature the position, so Fells doesn't bring any real fantasy upside.
