Bengals claimed QB Matt Scott off waivers from the Jaguars.
Scott will get an extended look during OTAs, but is behind both Jason Campbell and A.J. McCarron for backup duties in Cincinnati. A priority undrafted free agent last year, Scott spent the entire 2013 season on Jacksonville's practice squad. Fri, May 16, 2014 04:28:00 PM

Jaguars waived QB Matt Scott.

A "name" undrafted free agent last season, Scott ended up spending the entire year on Jacksonville's practice squad. He completed just 18-of-40 passes (45 percent) in the preseason. Scott doesn't have an NFL future.

Jaguars signed QB Matt Scott, S Sherrod Martin, TE Brandon Barden, WR Chad Bumphis, RB Shaun Chapas, OT DeMarcus Love, DE Will Pericak, DE D'Aundre Reed, WR Jabin Sambrano, and C Matt Stankiewitch to reserve/future contracts.

Scott was thought to have a chance to be a mid-round pick in last April's draft, but he fell out of it completely and spent the entire season on Jacksonville's practice squad. Martin started 49 games for the Panthers from 2009-2012 and is 29 years old.

Undrafted rookie QB Matt Scott (high-ankle sprain) has shed his walking boot, and was participating in Jaguars OTAs on Monday.

Scott's "high-ankle sprain" came just nine days ago, but he's clearly feeling a sense of urgency as he makes his roster bid. Battling with fellow UDFA Jordan Rodgers for No. 3 duties, Scott has a legit chance at a roster spot, but can't afford to miss any time with injury.

Updating a previous item, Jaguars undrafted rookie QB Matt Scott suffered a high-ankle sprain in Friday's minicamp practice.

Scott sprained the ankle on a play where he threw an interception to second-round SS Johnathan Cyprien. Jaguars OTAs start on May 13, and high-ankle sprains typically take 2-4 weeks to recover from. Scott can't afford to miss four weeks. Luckily for him, fellow undrafted rookie QB Jordan Rodgers is battling a groin injury. Fourth-round WR Ace Sanders is also dealing with a groin issue.

Jaguars undrafted rookie QB Matt Scott is in a walking boot after twisting his left ankle at Friday's minicamp practice.

It's not believed to be a major concern, and we'd expect Scott back for OTAs. After going undrafted, Scott immediately signed with the QB-needy Jags. Behind Blaine Gabbert and Chad Henne, Scott is likely competing for one roster spot with fellow UDFA Jordan Rodgers. He can't afford to miss much time.

Jaguars signed Arizona QB Matt Scott.

Scott (6-foot-2 1/8, 213) succeeded Nick Foles at Arizona and excelled in first-year coach Rich Rodriguez's spread-option offense, posting a 27:14 TD-to-INT ratio and 60.3 completion rate in his lone season as a starter. He rushed for six more scores. An intriguing athlete with some explosiveness as a runner, Scott has a long way to go as a passer. Despite strong velocity, his footwork, accuracy, and decision making were all suspect as a Wildcat, and he is very raw. With the quarterback situation so dire in Jacksonville, Scott could see the field as a rookie if he makes the team.

New Jaguars QBs coach Frank Scelfo was Arizona QB Matt Scott's position coach for four years in college.

Scott was the backup to Nick Foles during that period. The Jaguars attended Scott's Pro Day and are believed to be more interested in drafting a quarterback to pair with Blaine Gabbert and Chad Henne than signing one in free agency. Scott's stock is thought to be rising and he's now in the second-day mix.

According to NFL.com's Daniel Jeremiah, "buzz is building" for Arizona QB Matt Scott, and he has a "lot of teams intrigued."

He has "several private workouts on tap." Scott is increasingly being projected as a second- to third-round pick. With the free-agent quarterback market vanishingly thin, there's going to be a major QB run on day two of the draft.

NFL Draft insider Tony Pauline passes along buzz from the Arizona Pro Day that QB Matt Scott has "moved himself into the third round" of April's draft.

A "number of coaches" on hand even suggested Scott could be a late second-rounder. At 6-foot-2, 213, Scott ran in the 4.6s at the Combine and has drawn loose comparisons to Russell Wilson. The NFL's increased usage of read-option can only help the athletic Scott's stock. He played for Rich Rodriguez in 2012.
