Theo Riddick is expected to have the first shot at taking the snaps vacated by Reggie Bush.
The Lions only saved $1.7M by cutting Bush, but it was an easy decision because they know Riddick is capable of filling that "passing back" role. Despite touching the ball just 54 times in 2014, he produced 367 yards and four touchdowns while jumping off the screen in space. Per PFF, Riddick caught 2.45 yards per route run last season, best of any back in the league. Joique Bell is going to handle all the inside running work, but Riddick is going to be a PPR asset for fantasy owners. Feb 26 - 9:17 AM

Lions GM Martin Mayhew raved about Theo Riddick at the NFL Combine.

Riddick capitalized on his limited playing time last season, turning 54 touches into 367 yards and four TDs. "When you have a guy like Theo Riddick, who can make a difference in the passing game, that brings value to your team," Mayhew said. One of the reasons the Lions are considering cutting Reggie Bush is because of Riddick's ability as a passing back. He jumps off the screen when he gets in space.

Theo Riddick secured 4-of-7 targets for 39 yards in the Lions' Wild Card Round loss to the Cowboys.

Riddick got playing time in Detroit's two-minute drill at the end of the first half, catching Matthew Stafford checkdowns for gains of 7 and 13. Riddick reentered late in the fourth quarter and gained 15 on a screen. Turning 24 in May, Riddick may make Reggie Bush expendable this offseason. He is not a between-the-tackles back, but is very useful in passing situations and has more open-field "juice" than early-down grinder Joique Bell.
Jan 4 - 8:14 PM

Theo Riddick caught 5-of-7 targets for 34 yards and a touchdown in the Lions' Week 17 loss to the Packers.

Riddick was held without a rushing attempt. A second-year sixth rounder, Riddick's 367 yards from scrimmage were 316 more than he managed as a rookie, but he still enters the postseason as a distant third on the depth chart behind Joique Bell and Reggie Bush. He won't be a compelling DFS play against the Cowboys in the Wild Card round.

Theo Riddick had zero carries and caught two passes for 10 yards in Sunday's Week 16 win at Chicago.

Even with Joique Bell benched for the first quarter, Riddick didn't have a role. His skill set is far too similar to Reggie Bush's.

Theo Riddick rushed once for four yards in Week 15 against Minnesota.

The Lions claimed publicly after Riddick's Week 14 goose egg that he hadn't been eliminated from the offense, but he was barely on the field in this one. He is Reggie Bush's direct backup as a passing-game specialist.

Speaking Thursday, Lions OC Joe Lombardi called Theo Riddick's one-snap Week 14 an "anomaly."

"We're gonna use him in the future," Lombardi insisted. By the "future," it appears Lombardi means Week 15, but we still wouldn't expect more than 2-3 touches. The Lions aren't ready to run Riddick out there at the expense of a healthy Reggie Bush.

Theo Riddick didn't play a single snap on offense in Week 14.

Riddick and Reggie Bush play the same position in Detroit's offense, and Bush was healthy against the Buccaneers. "When Reggie’s in, Theo does a lot of things that Reggie does," coach Jim Caldwell explained. "When Reggie’s out, Theo kind of takes on a number of the same roles so when Reggie’s back there’s only one spot for one guy." Riddick is safe to drop in re-draft leagues.

Theo Riddick caught 6-of-7 targets for 54 yards in Detroit's Week 13 win over the Bears.

Riddick wash held without a rushing attempt, but was silky smooth as a receiver, operating as Matthew Stafford's primary safety valve. Riddick's RB3 value is wholly contingent on Reggie Bush's injury status, and Bush is tentatively expected to return for Week 14.

Lions RB Theo Riddick rushed twice for 12 yards and caught three balls for 40 yards in Sunday's Week 12 loss to the Patriots.

Riddick finished with five touches compared to Joique Bell's 20, despite the absence of Reggie Bush (ankle). Riddick's touch totals in Bush's four missed games this season now stand at 8, 11, 5, and 5.

Theo Riddick caught 3-of-6 targets for 24 yards in Detroit's Week 11 loss to the Cardinals, adding two rushes for two yards.

With Reggie Bush (ankle) sidelined, Riddick was the Lions' clear No. 2 behind Joique Bell, but it wasn't a profitable position with the Lions struggling to get anything going on offense. Riddick has big-play potential as a dual-threat back, but he won't be more than a high-risk FLEX if Bush misses next week's showdown with the Patriots in Foxboro.

Reggie Bush (ankle) will not play in Sunday's game at Arizona, leaving Theo Riddick in the passing back role.

Riddick will be the complement to starter and feature back Joique Bell. Although neither one projects to run well against the league's No. 3 run defense, Riddick certainly has serious appeal in full PPR formats. In the two games that Bush missed earlier this season, Riddick averaged 6.5 catches for 74.5 yards and scored two touchdowns. If the Lions can't move the ball on the ground, using short passes as an extension of their run game makes sense.

Theo Riddick was held to zero yards on three carries in Detroit's Week 10 win over the Dolphins, adding two catches for five yards and a touchdown.

Aside from his score, which came on a ridiculous sidearm throw from Matthew Stafford, Riddick disappointed. He had a chance to step up with Reggie Bush battling another ankle injury, but instead averaged one yard per touch. Granted, he was facing one of the league's best run defenses, but it wasn't an effort that's going to earn Riddick more work going forward. He won't be a realistic RB4 against the Cardinals' stout run defense in Week 11.

The Lions reportedly still plan on giving Theo Riddick touches and snaps even with Reggie Bush (ankle) back this week.

Riddick jumps off the screen whenever we've watched him, filling in for Bush with 13-149-2 through the air in Weeks 7 and 8. Now the question is how the Lions will fit Riddick, Bush and Joique Bell into the mix. OC Joe Lombardi comes from New Orleans, where they successfully used a three-back rotation but also capped fantasy upside. Ideally, fantasy owners won't have to use Bush or Riddick against the Dolphins' stout defense Sunday.

The Lions plan to use both Theo Riddick and Reggie Bush going forward.

Riddick has impressed in two games filling in for Bush, averaging 80 total yards. He's unlikely to see carries when Bush returns, but could factor in the pass game. Lions OC Joe Lombardi has a history of three-back committees and could use Riddick in a Darren Sproles role. Riddick is on the RB3/FLEX radar in PPR leagues.
