Theo Riddick (ankle) is out for Week 7 against the Redskins.
Riddick also missed last week's game against the Rams. With Riddick out, the Lions will turn to a backfield committee featuring Dwayne Washington, Justin Forsett and Zach Zenner. Golden Tate broke out for 165 yards last week and should continue to see targets in the short passing game with Riddick sidelined. Oct 21 - 4:17 PM

Theo Riddick (ankle) missed practice again on Friday.

He isn't going to play against the Redskins, leaving backfield work to Zach Zenner, Dwayne Washington, and Justin Forsett. We also saw a spike in Golden Tate's production with Riddick and Eric Ebron sidelined last week. Ebron has also not practiced at all this week and isn't going to play.

Theo Riddick (ankle) remained sidelined Thursday.

Riddick was said to be improving, but he's now really up against it to return this week. Barring a return on Friday, the Lions' backfield will be a hodgepodge of Dwayne Washington, Zach Zenner and Justin Forsett against the Redskins. None of the three will be easy to trust as an RB3 if Riddick indeed sits.
Oct 20 - 1:06 PM

Theo Riddick (ankle) is not practicing Wednesday.

Riddick was said to be looking much better by observers in the locker room, but he still wasn't able to practice. It's possible the Lions are just playing games, and Riddick could practice Thursday and Friday.
Oct 19 - 2:46 PM

Theo Riddick (ankle) is out for Week 6 against the Rams.

It makes sense considering he didn't practice all week. Dwayne Washington returned to a limited practice on Friday and is listed as questionable. Justin Forsett will slide in as the workhorse if Washington can't get the green light. Fantasy owners would be wise to stay clear of the Lions' backfield this week.
Oct 14 - 4:09 PM

Theo Riddick (ankle) missed Lions practice Friday.

He didn't practice all week. Riddick is the sort of player who could conceivably play on no practice, but it's possible he's dealing with a significant injury. The Lions are insistent on providing the media with no injury details.
Oct 14 - 12:04 PM

Theo Riddick (ankle) remained sidelined at Thursday's practice.

Dwayne Washington (ankle) also sat. Riddick played through his ankle issue against the Eagles, but back-to-back DNPs create questions that need to be answered on Friday. It's possible Riddick starts against the Rams without practicing, but his status should be considered truly questionable.
Oct 13 - 1:15 PM

Theo Riddick (ankle) didn't practice Wednesday.

Dwayne Washington (ankle) was also held out. Riddick suffered his ankle issue in Week 5, but played through it. Detroit's Justin Forsett signing suggests there's some over concern over his status.
Oct 12 - 4:36 PM

Theo Riddick rushed 11 times for 49 yards and caught 6-of-6 targets for 33 yards and two touchdowns in the Lions' Week 5 win over the Eagles.

Lions OC Jim Bob Cooter running around the edges with success on the ground, but Riddick continued to look poor as a between-the-tackles runner. His six pass-game targets led the team, and Riddick scored one- and 17-yard touchdowns on Detroit's first two possessions. He was mostly a non-factor after halftime with the Lions sitting on a lead and playing timid. Riddick remains a strong RB1/2 play in PPR leagues and a useful RB2/flex in standard leagues for as long as he continues to dominate backfield snaps. He'll get a tough match with the Rams in Week 6.
Oct 9 - 4:38 PM

Theo Riddick rushed 11 times for 31 yards and caught 4-of-7 targets for 27 yards in the Lions' Week 4 loss to the Bears.

Riddick predictably got the start in the backfield, but he did nothing as a runner outside of an 11-yard scamper in the third quarter. He was stonewalled time and again for minimal yardage. The Lions gave Riddick two carries from inside the five-yard line, but he was stuffed on both before Zach Zenner came in on third-and-goal only to be knocked for a loss. Dwayne Washington probably would have had a bigger role had he not injured his ankle in the second quarter after just three touches. Riddick isn't meant to carry the football between the tackles, but the Lions appear to want to continue trying to make him that. He'll merely be a flex option Week 5 against the Eagles.
Oct 2 - 4:51 PM

Lions coach Jim Caldwell blamed the offensive line for Theo Riddick's struggles on the ground Week 3.

"We’ve just got to block better for him," Caldwell said. "We didn’t get him going or give him an alley to get him going. It was more execution up front." The Lions apparently did execute well for Dwayne Washington, who sparked the running game in the second quarter and finished with 29 more yards on the same number of carries. Actually able to create yards on his own, Washington is a much better fit as the lead back than Riddick, and he should start to see more work this week.
Sep 27 - 9:08 AM

Theo Riddick rushed 10 times for nine yards and hauled in 7-of-9 targets for 39 yards Week 3 against the Packers.

Riddick tried his best to torpedo the offense early, losing ground on five of his first seven touches and finishing the first half with six carries for -11 yards. He found more success -- not a high bar -- on the ground in the second half, but it is painfully clear he cannot be the lead back while Ameer Abdullah is sidelined. Dwayne Washington needs to have a bigger role moving forward, and he needs to be owned in all fantasy formats.
Sep 25 - 4:57 PM

Lions coach Jim Caldwell said RB Theo Riddick will be "the lead guy" with Ameer Abdullah (foot, injured reserve) sidelined.

Riddick should start and play a big role, but he is not built to be an early-down workhorse. Riddick had never seen more than seven attempts in a game before last week, and he owns a career 3.23 yards per carry average. Dwayne Washington will have a big role on early downs and near the goal-line. It would not be surprising if Washington outscores Riddick in standard formats.

Sep 22 - 11:30 AM

Theo Riddick rushed 11 times for 37 yards and caught 4-of-5 targets for 28 yards in the Lions' Week 2 loss to the Titans.

Riddick got a big bump in playing time when Ameer Abdullah left with a second-quarter foot injury, but couldn't capitalize beyond his passing-game contributions. Still, the arrow is pointing up on Riddick's fantasy value because he will be the Lions' primary back for as long as Abdullah is out. No. 3 back Dwayne Washington had only four carries in Sunday's loss to Tennessee.
Sep 18 - 6:01 PM

Theo Riddick rushed seven times for 45 yards and a touchdown and caught 5-of-5 targets for 63 yards and another touchdown in the Lions' Week 1 win over the Colts.

This was an ideal matchup for Riddick due to the Colts' lack of foot speed at inside linebacker, where 33-year-old D'Qwell Jackson patrols the middle of the field. Riddick capitalized and then some and even shined on his carries, ripping off two critical runs on the Lions' final drive to set up Matt Prater's game-winning field goal. Riddick owners might want to consider selling high after this one, however. Riddick's two TDs were fluky for a player who has never been a big-time touchdown scorer, and nor has Riddick ever been as successful as a rusher as he was on Sunday. We'd bet against this box-score effort being a sign of things to come.
