Lions signed DE Cornelius Washington, formerly of the Bears, to a two-year, $6 million contract.
He can earn up to $8 million if all his incentives are reached. Washington showed some pass-rushing chops by recording two sacks last year but was a liability against the run. He'll compete for a backup role in Detroit. Mar 9 - 4:53 PM

Reserve Bears DE Cornelius Washington was forced from Chicago's Week 13 game against the Lions with a chest injury, and will not return.

Washington entered Week 13 having played just 41 snaps. Anything other than a 1-2 week injury will likely send him to injured reserve.

Bears second-year DE Cornelius Washington has failed to turn heads in training camp.

ESPN Chicago left Washington off its 53-man roster projection. Washington is competing with Willie Young, Austen Lane, and Trevor Scott for a backup role. He's a workout freak who was discussed as a potential third-round pick before dropping to the sixth last year. Also working against Washington's roster odds are multiple arrests since his junior year in college, including one this June.

WRDW-TV in Augusta (GA) reports Bears DE Cornelius Washington was arrested on Friday night for speeding and driving with a suspended license on Georgia Highway 80.

A Georgia alum, Washington was booked into McDuffie County jail following the incident. He was also arrested in 2011 for DUI and speeding, resulting in a two-game college suspension. A highly athletic "workout freak" who played sparingly as a rookie, Washington is entering his second NFL season behind Lamarr Houston and Jared Allen. Washington's 2014 defensive role is uncertain.

Bears agreed to terms with No. 188 overall pick DE Cornelius Washington on a four-year contract.

Washington (6-foot-4, 265 pounds) lit up the Combine with a 4.55 40-yard dash and 1.60 ten-yard split, but a lack of college production sent him tumbling to the sixth round after he was mocked as high as the third. Washington will back up LE Corey Wootton at a rookie. He's a project.

The Bears plan to use sixth-round pick Cornelius Washington at left defensive end, behind Corey Wootton.

Washington is talented enough to grow into a starting left defensive end down the road. GM Phil Emergy described Washington as a "guy (with) a tremendously explosive first step," who on tape was "close a lot but hasn't closed. We think that this is a player that's still got a lot of ceiling. He loves football." Emery suggested the Bears got a steal with Washington at the 188th overall pick.

Bears selected Georgia DE Cornelius Washington with the No. 188 overall pick.

Washington (6-foot-4, 265) played out of position as a five-technique end in Georgia's 3-4 as a senior, which helped limit him to just 22 tackles -- three for a loss -- and a paltry half-sack across 14 games. He played linebacker in 2011 and posted five sacks. Washington has 34-inch arms and shredded the Combine with a 4.55 forty, 1.60 ten-yard split, 36 bench-press reps and a 39-inch vertical. Washington is a bit of a project, but offers big upside if his talent is harnessed. The Bears are loving test freaks in this draft.

TFY Draft Insider's Tony Pauline reports the Saints have "shown a lot of interest" in Georgia DE Cornelius Washington.

Washington lit up the Combine, but notched only half a sack last season. Rotoworld's day-two mock draft has Washington going to the Giants at No. 81. The Saints pick No. 75.

NFL Draft insider Tony Pauline reports the Jets are "very high on" Georgia DE Cornelius Washington.

Per Pauline, the Jets are expected to consider Washington on the draft's second day. Washington blew up the Combine with a 4.55 forty and 1.60 ten-yard split at 6-foot-4 and 265 pounds. Washington's production (0.5 sacks) was alarming as Georgia miscast him as a five-technique, 3-4 end, but he certainly is athletic enough to convert to base 4-3 defensive end or outside-rush linebacker.
