Jets signed CB J.J. Wilcox.
Wilcox was ready to sign on the dotted line with the 49ers but evidently got "stage fright." He's now flying cross country to ink with the Jets. The ex-Cowboy and 2017 Steeler was cut by Pittsburgh in late April. He will fight for a role on special teams with the safety-heavy Jets. Jun 5 - 5:08 PM

49ers signed S J.J. Wilcox to a one-year contract.

Signed by the Bucs last year, Wilcox struggled in camp and was shipped to the Steelers prior to Week 1. He ended up playing just 134 defensive snaps for Pittsburgh before being cut in April. The former Cowboy will look to get his career back on track with the 49ers.

Steelers released S J.J. Wilcox.

Wilcox was due over $3 million in non-guaranteed salary, so the special teamer's release was inevitable after the Steelers drafted two safeties.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette expects the Steelers to release S J.J. Wilcox.

Wilcox played just 131 2017 snaps after coming over in a September trade from the Bucs. Cutting him would create $3.125 million in cap space while leaving behind just $675,000 in dead money.

Steelers S J.J. Wilcox suffered a concussion Week 1 against the Browns.

Wilcox suffered the injury late in the win. He is at best questionable for Week 2.

Steelers acquired S J.J. Wilcox and a 2019 seventh-round pick from the Bucs in exchange for a 2018 sixth-round pick.

Signed to a two-year deal in March, Wilcox apparently struggled to fit in with the Bucs. He would not have been a starter even if Tampa had not just acquired T.J. Ward, but that signing seems to have sealed his fate. Wilcox only started four games for the Cowboys last season, but he had his best year as a pro.

Bucs signed FS J.J. Wilcox, formerly of the Cowboys, to a two-year contract.

The deal is reportedly worth "up to $8.5 million." A third-round pick in 2013, Wilcox only started four games last season but had his best year as a pro. Bringing in Wilcox likely means Tampa Bay is moving on from free agent Bradley McDougald.

Free agent S J.J. Wilcox will visit the Buccaneers and Seahawks.

Notably, Brandon George of the Dallas Morning News said the Cowboys are not pursuing him. Wilcox drew four starts at strong safety last year while filling in for an injured Barry Church. The Dolphins have also been linked to Wilcox.

The Miami Herald reports the Dolphins are interested in free agent safeties J.J. Wilcox and Duron Harmon.

That's "among other" safeties. The Dolphins have zeroed in on the back end as a need with Isa Abdul-Quddus (neck) potentially unavailable for 2017. Wilcox has also drawn interest from the Bucs.

ESPN's Jenna Laine reports there's mutual interest between the Bucs and free agent FS J.J. Wilcox.

Safety is a massive weak spot in DC Mike Smith's defense in Tampa Bay, and both of last year's starters Chris Conte and Bradley McDougald are free agents. Wilcox was Pro Football Focus' No. 24 safety out of 91 qualifiers last year, grading out well in coverage and against the run. He's known as a big hitter on the back end. Keith Tandy figures to start at one safety spot for Tampa.

Cowboys S J.J. Wilcox (thigh) returned to practice Thursday.

Out since Week 12, this practice at least gives Wilcox a shot to suit up Sunday night against the Bucs, although Week 16 may be more likely. Wilcox has 39 tackles in 471 defensive snaps this season.

Cowboys S J.J. Wilcox (thigh) is out for Week 13 against the Vikings.

Morris Claiborne (groin) and Justin Durant (hamstring) have also been ruled out. Wilcox suffered a deep thigh bruise in last week's win over Washington. Consider him week to week. Barry Church is expected to return from a broken forearm on Thursday night and should immediately resume his role as the starting strong safety.

Cowboys S J.J. Wilcox (thigh) is not expected to practice on Tuesday and is likely to miss Thursday's Week 13 game against the Vikings.

Wilcox suffered a bruised thigh playing against the Redskins on Thanksgiving. He's been filling in at strong safety, though he may not be needed this week with Barry Church set to return from a broken forearm. Wilcox holds PFF's 23rd-highest safety grade among 87 qualifiers this year.

ESPN's Jean-Jacques Taylor believes Cowboys S J.J. Wilcox is on the roster bubble.

Wilcox started 29 games the last two seasons, but he has struggled in both run and pass defense and has just four interceptions over that span. With Byron Jones moving to safety full time, Wilcox's days in the starting lineup are over, and his spot on the roster could be in danger as well. He is owed $1.66 million in the final year of his rookie deal.

Cowboys SS J.J. Wilcox suffered a neck "burner" in Week 10 against the Jaguars.

Wilcox underwent tests earlier this week, but "should be okay." He's started all 10 games this season, making 43 tackles and one interception. He hasn't made many plays, but is better than what the Cowboys got at safety last season.
