The Titans will turn to second-year pro Zaviar Gooden as their starting inside linebacker next to Wesley Woodyard.
He'll replace Zach Brown (torn pectoral). The 97th overall pick in last year's draft, Gooden goes 6-foot-1, 233 with 4.46 speed and a highly explosive 10-foot-11 broad jump. Gooden is worth a look as a sleeper in deeper IDP leagues. Sep 8 - 5:17 PM

Titans rookie LB Zaviar Gooden (ankle) has been ruled out of the season opener.

Gooden is still working his way back from a high-ankle sprain and has yet to return to practice. He'll serve in a special teams role and provide depth behind Zach Brown or Akeem Ayers when healthy.

Rookie LB Zaviar Gooden is missing time at Titans camp with a high ankle sprain.

He'll be out "at least" another week. The 97th overall pick in April's draft, Gooden is an athletic outside linebacker type ticketed for special teams in year one. He's clearly no threat to Zach Brown or Akeem Ayers' starting job.

The Titans have been very impressed with third-round OLB Zaviar Gooden's athleticism.

Speed was Gooden's calling card in college. "As far as change of direction, I haven’t seen a linebacker this athletic in a long time," LBs coach Chet Parlavecchio said. "He has such beautiful footwork, he’s such a fluid athlete." Gooden's production was hit-or-miss for Mizzou, but the Titans clearly believe new "defensive assistant" Gregg Williams can coach him up. Gooden will push for snaps behind WLB Zach Brown.

Titans signed No. 97 overall pick OLB Zaviar Gooden to a four-year contract.

A top-notch "run and chase" linebacker, Gooden turned in a blazing 4.47 40-yard dash at the Combine. He also posted a 1.53 ten-yard split while ripping off 27 reps on the bench. Gooden turned in a dud of a senior year at Mizzou, but could eventually siphon snaps from WLB Zach Brown. Brown is coming off a mixed rookie season.

Titans selected Missouri OLB Zaviar Gooden with the No. 97 overall pick.

Gooden (6-foot-1 1/2, 234) manned the weak side in Mizzou's 4-3 defense, logging 61 tackles -- four for loss -- and an interception across ten games in 2012, missing the better part of three with a hamstring injury. His senior year was subpar, but Gooden rehabbed his stock with a 4.47 forty, 1.53 ten-yard split, and 27 bench reps at the Combine. Gooden doesn't always play as physically as he should, but is the premier pure run-and-chase linebacker in this class. The Titans now have some serious speed with Gooden and Zach Brown.
