Packers activated C J.C. Tretter from injured reserve/designated for return.
Tretter went on short-term I.R. in September after hurting his knee in the third preseason game. It's unclear if Tretter will return to his starting center position, with fifth-round rookie Corey Linsley dominating as a run blocker and grading out as Pro Football Focus' No. 3 center. Tretter can play multiple spots. Nov 3 - 6:24 PM

The Packers are expected to place C J.C. Tretter (knee) on injured reserve/designated to return.

Tretter is expected to need only 5-6 weeks to recover from his knee injury, but the Packers don't have any other candidates for short-term I.R. and could use the roster spot. Barring a setback, Tretter will return when first eligible in Week 9.

Packers C J.C. Tretter's (knee) timeline is 5-6 weeks.

Tretter avoided ligament damage and will not need surgery. It's good news for the Packers, as Tretter will probably return early in the season. Green Bay may now have to turn to undrafted rookie Corey Linsley as its Week 1 center.

Packers C J.C. Tretter is out "multiple weeks" with a knee injury.

He suffered the injury in Green Bay's third preseason game. It sounds like Tretter won't be ready for Week 1 after missing his entire rookie year with a fractured leg and ankle. The Packers were counting on Tretter to start after letting Evan Dietrich-Smith walk in free agency. Center is now a trouble spot.

Second-year pro J.C. Tretter appears to have won the Packers' starting center job.

Tretter got the first shot at replacing Evan Dietrich-Smith, and ran with it. "Every day he's gotten better at something and he continues to grow that way," were the words of OL coach James Campen. It's impressive, as the 2013 fourth-rounder missed most of his rookie year with a broken ankle. He came off the PUP list in December, but played zero snaps.

J.C. Tretter is expected to get the first shot at the Packers' starting center job.

Tretter was the 122nd overall pick in last April's draft. He broke his leg and tore ligaments in his ankle during training camp and didn't play a single snap as a rookie. With Evan Dietrich-Smith now in Tampa, Tretter and Don Barclay should compete for center duties. Tretter is very athletic as a former college tight end.

Packers activated OL J.C. Tretter (ankle, leg) from the reserve/PUP list.

A fourth-round rookie, Tretter broke his leg and tore ankle ligaments in training camp. Tretter played tackle in college, but is expected to man the interior in Green Bay. He'll provide depth for the season's final three games.

Packers placed OL J.C. Tretter (broken ankle) and S Sean Richardson (neck) on the reserve/PUP list.

They'll be eligible to return in Week 7, though Tretter is unlikely to play this season after breaking his leg and tearing ankle ligaments in rookie camp. A fourth-round pick, the Packers have to determine if he'll play guard or tackle. Tretter played tackle for Cornell, but is expected to stick on the interior in the NFL.

Packers fourth-round OL J.C. Tretter is out six months after suffering a fracture at the lower end of his fibula and torn ankle ligaments during OTA practice.

He'll likely miss the entire season. Tretter signed his contract just 11 days ago. A left tackle in college, Tretter was projected to contribute at center and guard. His rookie year will now amount to a "redshirt" campaign.

Packers coach Mike McCarthy acknowledged that fourth-round pick OL J.C. Tretter's position is "undetermined."

Tretter played left tackle in college, but profiles as an interior lineman in the Packers' zone-blocking scheme. Ideally, he'll compete for snaps with Evan Dietrich-Smith at center, while providing depth at both guard spots. Tretter is not expected to start as a rookie.

Packers signed No. 122 overall pick OL J.C. Tretter to a four-year contract.

The NFL isn't waiting for training camp anymore to sign its rookies. They're getting deals done before rookie minicamp. Tretter played tight end and left tackle at Cornell. He's ticketed for the interior line in Green Bay.

Packers selected Cornell OL J.C. Tretter with the No. 122 overall pick.

Tretter (6-foot-3 5/8, 307) lettered at tight end his first two seasons before taking over as the Big Red's left tackle and earning unanimous All-Ivy League first-team honors as a senior. Heady and athletic but somewhat short armed (33 3/8"), Tretter is likely destined for the interior line. Despite breaking his nose just prior to the Senior Bowl, Tretter participated in the event. The Packers do have a history of success with mid to late round offensive linemen.
