Bucs re-signed DE William Gholston to a five-year, $27.5 million contract, including $13.5 million guaranteed.
Incentives can push the net worth to $37 million. A 6-foot-6, 281-pound run-stopping end, Gholston plays on the interior in passing situations. Turning 26 in July, Gholston has just ten sacks through 57 career games, including 36 starts. The fact that an essentially non-pass-rush defensive lineman is garnering $5.5 million annually in base value with a chance to top $7 million per year is a testament to the inflation of this year's market. According to ESPN's Adam Caplan, the Bucs want to re-sign free agent DE William Gholston.

A fourth-round pick in 2013, Gholston's career started off in pedestrian way, but he's played well the past two seasons, combining for six sacks with end-tackle versatility in DC Mike Smith's 4-3 front. Gholston is said to be looking for a "life-changing" deal. Expect him to command around $6 million per year. The Bucs have a boat load of cap space available.
Feb 27 - 10:30 AM

The Bucs have opened extension talks with free agent DE William Gholston.

"We have had dialogue," GM Jason Licht said. "He’s definitely a priority." Gholston had three sacks last year but is one of the better run stoppers in the league. He’ll likely want something in the range of the $6.5 million AAV Tampa gave Robert Ayers last offseason. The Bucs have around $65.2 million in cap space.

Buccaneers DE William Gholston won't need surgery on his injured elbow.

He sat out the Bucs' final two games with a dislocated elbow. Severe dislocations can sometimes lead to bone chips and ligament damage but Gholston's was relatively mild. His biggest issue is getting his full range of motion back. Regardless, Gholston should be healed in plenty of time for the start of OTAs.
Jan 2 - 6:53 PM

Bucs declared DE William Gholston QB Ryan Griffin, WR Bernard Reedy, OT Leonard Wester, DT John Hughes, DE Channing Ward, and OG Caleb Benenoch inactive for Week 17.

There are no surprises. Robert Ayers will start in Gholston's place.

Bucs RE William Gholston (elbow) will miss Week 17.

Gholston is dealing with a dislocation. Gholston started the first 14 games this season, tallying a modest three sacks. The 2013 fourth-rounder is at the end of his rookie deal. He's far from a lock to be back in Tampa.

Bucs DE William Gholston (elbow) expected to miss Week 16 against the Saints.

Gholston suffered a dislocated right elbow late in Sunday night's loss to the Cowboys. He will likely return this season, especially if the Bucs make the playoffs, but coach Dirk Koetter said he is unlikely to be ready for this week. Gholston has 3.5 sacks in 585 defensive snaps this season.

Bucs DE William Gholston (ankle) was not on the final injury report.

Gholston reportedly was in a boot and on crutches after last week's game because of a sprained ankle, but he has apparently made a miraculous recovery. He will be good to go against the Saints.

Buccaneers DE William Gholston suffered a sprained ankle in Week 13.

He's been unable to put any weight on it and was seen leaving the stadium with a walking boot and crutches on Sunday. Robert Ayers would likely draw the start at left end if Gholston isn't cleared for Week 14. Gholston is one of the team's best run-stoppers.

Bucs LE William Gholston has a "mild" knee sprain.

He's expected to miss little, if any, time. Gholston has zero sacks in 255 snaps, but has been playing solid football on the left side of Lovie Smith's line.

Bucs DE William Gholston left the Week 8 game against the Falcons with a knee injury and is questionable to return.

Gholston had four tackles before exiting late in the first quarter. His absence will open up more snaps for Howard Jones and Josh Shirley at defensive end.

Bucs agreed to terms with No. 126 overall pick DE William Gholston on a four-year contract.

Gholston is an imposing 6-foot-6, 281 pounds with 34-inch arms, but lacks high-end athleticism (4.96 40-yard dash, 1.73 ten-yard split). He's more adept at swallowing up blockers than exploding off the edge. Gholston will likely play limited snaps as a rotational end this season.
Tue, May 14, 2013 04:08:00 PM

Bucs selected Michigan State DE William Gholston with the No. 126 overall pick.

Gholston (6-foot-6 1/4, 281) recorded 30 career tackles for loss and 10 sacks across 36 games for the Spartans, making 24 starts. Big Ten coaches voted him honorable mention all-conference last year. The cousin of former megabust Vernon Gholston, William is a pure five-technique, 3-4 end prospect who ran 4.96 at the Combine with a plodding 1.73 ten-yard split. He offers little natural edge-rushing ability, but possesses long arms (34") to control blockers. Gholston could line up at end on early downs before kicking inside on passing downs in Tampa Bay.
