Eagles signed DE Steven Means to a one-year extension through 2018.
27-year-old Means has bounced around the league since entering as a 2013 fifth-round pick by the Bucs, but the Eagles' coaching staff loves his potential to bring heat off the edge as a rotational player. On the depth chart, Means will open the season behind Brandon Graham, Derrick Barnett, Vinny Curry, and Chris Long. Wed, Aug 30, 2017 08:31:00 PM

Ravens signed DE Steven Means off their practice squad.

Means takes the roster spot of RT Rick Wagner (IR, foot). He's a 2013 fifth-round pick that flamed out with the Lovie Smith Bucs regime.

Coach Lovie Smith called second-year DE Steven Means his "prototype" defensive end.

Means was the 147th overall pick last year out of Buffalo. Most projected him to play strong-side linebacker at the NFL level. He has decent size (6-foot-3 5/8, 260) and was a disruptive edge rusher in college. Means played just 80 snaps as a rookie, notching five tackles. The Bucs don't seem to be high on short and stout Adrian Clayborn. William Gholston and Means are viewed by some as the favorites to split duties at left end opposite Michael Johnson.

Bucs signed fifth-round DE Steven Means to a four-year contract.

Means didn't generate much pre-draft notice, but the Bucs believe the Buffalo alum offers a lot of upside as a situational pass rusher. He recorded 19.5 sacks and 30.5 career tackles for loss in college. End is a weakness on Tampa's defense, so there's reason to believe Means has a chance to play as a rookie.

Bucs coach Greg Schiano says No. 147 overall pick Steven Means will play defensive end.

Means played defensive end in college at Buffalo, but many thought he would play strong-side linebacker in the pros due to his 6-foot-4, 250-pound frame. "We're very excited about him being a developing pass rusher," said GM Mark Dominik. "We think he has tremendous traits."

Bucs selected Buffalo LB Steven Means with the No. 147 overall in the draft.

Means played some defensive end in college and will likely play strong side linebacker in the NFL. Other than Lavonte David, the Bucs have some issues at the linebacker position, but we wouldn't expect Means to contribute early. He recorded 30.5 career tackles for loss, including 19.5 sacks.
