Seahawks TE Luke Willson will start while Zach Miller (ankle) is sidelined.
Willson, a 2013 fifth-rounder, is a toolsy pass-catching prospect who goes 6'5/251 with 4.51 speed. He can certainly stretch the seam Monday night against a Redskins defense getting shredded by tight ends, but volume in this spread-the-wealth passing attack will be a concern. Willson's snaps also project to be limited by his deficiencies as a blocker. We'd rather take a shot on Austin Seferian-Jenkins as a TE1 streamer. Sep 30 - 11:36 PM

Updating a previous item, Seahawks TE Luke Willson passed concussion tests during Friday night's preseason game.

He's been medically cleared and will be fine after the concussion scare. Willson has been quiet in August, managing two preseason catches for 27 yards. The seam-stretching sophomore will be an inconsistent fantasy TE2 parked on the depth chart behind Zach Miller. Willson is more attractive in Dynasty leagues.

The Seattle Times believes TE Luke Willson is "primed to make more of an impact this season."

It was a safe assumption even before TE Anthony McCoy was lost for the season. A 2013 fifth-rounder, Willson is a plus athlete at 6-foot-5, 251 pounds with 4.51 wheels, and caught 20 balls as a rookie. Although Willson is still raw as a blocker and behind Zach Miller on the depth chart, it's not inconceivable that he'll make a re-draft impact in 2014. He's not worth a draft pick, however.

Luke Willson caught two balls for 17 yards in Super Bowl 48.

Willson recorded gains of five and 12 on checkdown passes, the second of which went for a third-quarter first down. Although we wouldn't be surprised to see athletic rising sophomore Willson's role grow in year two, he'll have a very hard time approaching fantasy TE1 value behind Zach Miller on a run-first team. Willson is a better Dynasty than re-draft prospect.

Luke Willson (ankle) resumed practicing Tuesday.

The Seahawks said Willson sustained a high-ankle sprain in Week 17, but his return to practice just two weeks later suggests that was an exaggeration. The intriguing and athletic rookie is on track to serve as the No. 2 tight end behind Zach Miller in this week's Divisional Round game against the Saints.
Jan 8 - 9:12 AM

Seahawks TE Luke Willson was carted off the field with a high left ankle sprain in Week 17.

The play happened in the second half, and didn't look good on the field. A highly athletic sleeper fifth-round pick out of Rice, Willson's first NFL regular season ends with 20 receptions for 272 yards and a touchdown. If cleared to play, Willson will continue to serve as Zach Miller's more explosive complement in the NFL postseason.

Seahawks TE Luke Willson caught one pass for eight yards in Seattle's Week 15 win over the G-Men.

Although Willson has intriguing tools and is a quality Dynasty prospect, he is not going to make a re-draft impact in Weeks 16 and 17 barring a Zach Miller injury. Miller emerged from Sunday's victory at 100 percent.

Luke Willson caught three passes for 70 yards and a touchdown in Week 14 against the 49ers.

The touchdown was the first of the fifth-round rookie's career. Willson caught an intermediate target over the middle of the field, made a nifty move on his defender and was off to the races. A seriously athletic 6-foot-5 matchup problem, Willson has legitimate appeal in Dynasty leagues.

Filling in for injured starter Zach Miller (hamstring), TE Luke Willson caught two passes for 17 yards in Seattle's Week 6 win over the Titans.

Willson has legit upside, but isn't likely to tap it this season. He's just a Dynasty-league option.

Seahawks rookie TE Luke Willson caught two passes for 28 yards in Seattle's Week 5 loss to the Colts.

Willson got the start with Zach Miller (hamstring) inactive. Though an impressive fifth-round pick, Willson has no value outside of Dynasty leagues.

Luke Willson caught five passes for 76 yards in Sunday's Week 3 win over the Jaguars.

Willson flashed his sizable athletic ability while eluding tacklers on a 35-yard catch in garbage time. But if the Seahawks weren't playing their junior varsity squad late, Willson wouldn't have had many opportunities. He's a deep Dynasty stash, not a re-draft option.

Seahawks rookie TE Luke Willson caught two passes for 21 yards in Friday night's third preseason game.

The stats don't jump off the page, but Wilson got some first-team snaps and that is notable for a fifth-round pick. Willson has four catches for 37 yards through three preseason games. While he's a long shot for re-draft fantasy value, the highly athletic Willson is squarely on the Dynasty league radar.

Seahawks OC Darrell Bevell indicated fifth-round TE Luke Willson is a work in progress.

Wilson has starting-caliber measurables at 6-foot-5, 251 with 4.51 wheels, but he's a blocking-deficient project coming out of Rice's spread offense. "There’s a lot for him to work on, just getting a grasp of our offense and things," said Bevell. "... We want to see him block well. We feel like we know what we can expect out of him in the pass game and we want to see the speed in the pass game, but we need to see how he is going to fit in as a blocker in the NFL."

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll says fifth-round TE Luke Willson's 4.51 speed "certainly" shows up downfield.

Carroll said on Friday that Willson had been the "brightest spot" of Seahawks rookie minicamp. Willson is an extremely raw prospect, but a seam-stretcher for a team that's thin at tight end and works to create competition at every position. It's not outside the realm of possibility he'll earn a role on offense as a rookie.

Seahawks fifth-round TE Luke Willson has been "standing out" at rookie minicamp.

GM John Schneider said Willson "tested" the second-best of all the tight end prospects in last month's draft, and the Seahawks view him as a multifaceted tight end whose 4.51 speed can make him a deep threat over the middle of the field. Coach Pete Carroll called Willson the "brightest spot" on Friday. He's someone to keep an eye on in dynasty formats.
