Luke Willson caught one pass for a 23-yard touchdown in Sunday's Week 8 win at Carolina.
Willson, who was over the hamstring tweak that kept him out of Week 8, saved his best for last. With 47 seconds left and the Seahawks down 9-6, Russell Wilson hit the athletic pass-catcher in stride up the seam and he bounced off tackles for the game-winner. There's only very weak TE2 appeal here though, due to lack of volume. Oct 26 - 4:58 PM

Date:

Seahawks TE Luke Willson (groin) is active for Sunday's Week 8 game at Carolina.

Willson's return means Cooper Helfet is not a thing anymore, even though Zach Miller (ankle) remains sidelined. Marshawn Lynch is active, of course, despite chemistry rumors -- he's not going to be traded at the deadline either. The rest of the Seahawks inactives: WR Bryan Walters, CB Byron Maxwell, LB Bobby Wagner, C Max Unger, DT Jordan Hill and T McDonald.

Seahawks TE Luke Willson (groin) is probable for Week 8.

Willson will start Sunday's game against the Panthers. Cooper Helfet should see time in two tight end sets.
Oct 24 - 5:41 PM

Seahawks TE Luke Willson (groin) is practicing in full for Week 8.

Barring a setback, Willson will be back to start Sunday's game against the Panthers. He's not on the TE2 radar.
Oct 23 - 7:45 PM

Luke Willson (groin) returned to Seahawks practice Wednesday.

Willson sat out Week 7, leaving tight end duties to Cooper Helfet, who caught three passes for 61 yards and a score. Willson won't be guaranteed to start in his return to the lineup with Zach Miller (ankle) still sidelined.
Oct 22 - 3:25 PM

Luke Willson (groin) is inactive for Sunday's Week 7 game against the Rams.

With Zach Miller (foot) also out, the Seahawks are down to just Cooper Helfet and RaShaun Allen at tight end.
Oct 19 - 12:05 PM

Luke Willson (groin) is listed as questionable for Week 7 at St. Louis.

His status is unclear after showing up unexpectedly on Thursday's injury report as a "DNP" (Did Not Practice). With Zach Miller (ankle) already ruled out, the Seahawks would turn to Cooper Helfet if Willson can't go Sunday.
Oct 17 - 4:34 PM

Luke Willson caught two passes for 11 yards in Sunday's Week 6 loss to the Cowboys.

Willson had plenty of chances in this dream matchup (six targets), but came up just empty on too many of them. Over the last two weeks with Zach Miller out, he has five catches for 39 yards and no touchdowns despite facing the Redskins and Cowboys. Willson is just a deep Dynasty hold thanks to his size/speed appeal.
Oct 12 - 7:57 PM

Luke Willson caught three passes for 28 yards in the Seahawks' Week 5 win over Washington.

Willson was targeted four times on the night with Zach Miller (ankle) sidelined. He and Cooper Helfet split tight end duties, while Helfet managed one catch for 36 yards on two targets. Miller is expected to miss maybe one more game, but Willson should get another start and have a plus matchup in Week 6 vs. Dallas.
Oct 7 - 12:46 AM

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll expects TE Luke Willson to be "all over the gameplan" in Week 5 against Washington.

Willson will start on Monday night with Zach Miller sidelined. His blocking skills will likely prevent him from being an every-down player, but Willson should be more involved in the pass game than Miller. Willson is a candidate for red-zone targets against a Washington secondary that allowed four touchdowns to the Giants' tight ends last week.
Oct 4 - 7:32 PM

Seahawks TE Luke Willson will start while Zach Miller (ankle) is sidelined.

Willson, a 2013 fifth-rounder, is a toolsy pass-catching prospect who goes 6'5/251 with 4.51 speed. He can certainly stretch the seam Monday night against a Redskins defense getting shredded by tight ends, but volume in this spread-the-wealth passing attack will be a concern. Willson's snaps also project to be limited by his deficiencies as a blocker. We'd rather take a shot on Austin Seferian-Jenkins as a TE1 streamer.

Updating a previous item, Seahawks TE Luke Willson passed concussion tests during Friday night's preseason game.

He's been medically cleared and will be fine after the concussion scare. Willson has been quiet in August, managing two preseason catches for 27 yards. The seam-stretching sophomore will be an inconsistent fantasy TE2 parked on the depth chart behind Zach Miller. Willson is more attractive in Dynasty leagues.
Aug 23 - 12:09 AM

The Seattle Times believes TE Luke Willson is "primed to make more of an impact this season."

It was a safe assumption even before TE Anthony McCoy was lost for the season. A 2013 fifth-rounder, Willson is a plus athlete at 6-foot-5, 251 pounds with 4.51 wheels, and caught 20 balls as a rookie. Although Willson is still raw as a blocker and behind Zach Miller on the depth chart, it's not inconceivable that he'll make a re-draft impact in 2014. He's not worth a draft pick, however.
Aug 5 - 8:59 PM

Luke Willson caught two balls for 17 yards in Super Bowl 48.

Willson recorded gains of five and 12 on checkdown passes, the second of which went for a third-quarter first down. Although we wouldn't be surprised to see athletic rising sophomore Willson's role grow in year two, he'll have a very hard time approaching fantasy TE1 value behind Zach Miller on a run-first team. Willson is a better Dynasty than re-draft prospect.
Feb 2 - 10:42 PM

Luke Willson (ankle) resumed practicing Tuesday.

The Seahawks said Willson sustained a high-ankle sprain in Week 17, but his return to practice just two weeks later suggests that was an exaggeration. The intriguing and athletic rookie is on track to serve as the No. 2 tight end behind Zach Miller in this week's Divisional Round game against the Saints.
