The Bills "consider themselves set" with Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer as their starting safeties.

Buffalo views corner as a more pressing need after losing Stephon Gilmore to New England. Hyde and Poyer have been mostly part-time starters, but have cover skills to fit Sean McDermott’s Cover-3 scheme. The Bills may still look to add safety depth in the middle rounds of the draft.

Bills coach Sean McDermott said new DB Micah Hyde will start out at safety.

Signed to a five-year, $30-million contract this month, Hyde is a do it all defensive back who worked as a slot corner at times in Green Bay. McDermott said Hyde will start to move around more as he becomes comfortable in the new defense, but for now he will stick at safety. Buffalo could use some help at corner.

Bills signed CB/S Micah Hyde to a five-year, $30 million contract with $14 million guaranteed.

26-year-old Hyde got burned routinely at slot corner in Green Bay last year, but teams are high on his ability to contribute in a variety of ways. He is a game-breaking punt returner and can play safety. Ideally, Hyde wouldn't play the slot at all. He would match up with tight ends and play in sub-packages. The fact that the Bills are signing him days after cutting slot CB Nickell Robey-Coleman suggests they will be using Hyde in the slot, however.

Impending free agent DB Micah Hyde is expected to hit the open market.

He hasn't received an offer from Green Bay. Hyde is a versatile defender with experience at both safety and slot corner. He won't be on the market long.

Impending free agent DB Micah Hyde said Green Bay is "the best place for me."

"I would love to be back in Green Bay," Hyde said. "The people there, the organization, the coaches, my teammates. It’s been a blessing to be there." Hyde added he has not really been in contact with Green Bay about a new deal, but his agent and Packers contract negotiator Russ Ball met at the Combine on Friday. Considering their issues in the secondary, the Packers should be looking to re-sign Hyde, but it is possible the jack-of-all-trades defensive back is priced out of their market.

Impending free agent DB Micah Hyde said he'd welcome a return to Green Bay.

"I'd love to," said Hyde. "This place is the best place for me, but at the end of the day, it has to be business decisions and it’s kind of out of my control." Hyde began the year at strong safety before settling in at slot corner. The 26-year-old matched a career-high with three interceptions. He's one of several Packers headed for free agency along with Don Barclay, Jared Cook, Eddie Lacy, Christine Michael, Julius Peppers and Nick Perry.

Packers S Micah Hyde exited Week 9 against the Colts with a shoulder injury.

Hyde suffered the injury late in the game and never returned. Already banged up in the secondary, the Packers would be down another starter if Hyde is forced to miss any time. Kentrell Brice took over after Hyde left against the Colts.

Packers S Micah Hyde exited Week 11 against the Vikings with a hip injury.

Hyde injured himself diving for Kyle Rudolph, who beat him for a 47-yard touchdown in the first quarter. He was able to hobble around a bit after the injury, but he rode the cart to the locker room. Hyde entered the game with a hip issue, so it is possible he aggravated that injury.

Packers S Micah Hyde (knee) expects to play in Sunday's game against the Lions.

Hyde has been diagnosed with a bruise, meaning he just has to get the swelling down in order to suit up. Regardless, this Dom Capers defense is likely to get lit up by Matthew Stafford and the Lions. Vegas is projecting this game to have the most total points in Week 3 (53).

Packers S Micah Hyde left Sunday's Week 2 win over the Jets with a knee injury.

Hyde hurt his left knee while returning a punt in the first half. He was replaced by rookie Ha Ha Clinton-Dix on defense.

ESPN Packers reporter Rob Demovsky said the idea that second-year DB Micah Hyde could hold off first-round S Ha-Ha Clinton-Dix "should not be completely discounted."

This comes after Hyde opened OTAs as the first-team safety. It is clear the Packers' coaching staff likes Hyde and wants him on the field, but it seems highly unlikely he is able to hold off a player as talented as Clinton-Dix. We still expect Clinton-Dix to open the season as the starter with Hyde playing in three-safety "big nickel" looks and slot corner in deeper sub-packages.

Second-year DB Micah Hyde opened OTAs as the Packers' first-team free safety.

Hyde will eventually cede the job to first-rounder Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, but his position to open the spring is notable after Hyde focused on slot corner as a rookie. The 2013 fifth-round value pick figures to end up as Green Bay's No. 3 safety and No. 4 cornerback. He's also the Packers' kick and punt returner.

ESPN's Rob Demovsky believes the Packers will definitely select a safety in the draft, perhaps even as early as the first round.

Rumors had been second-year CB Micah Hyde would be transitioned to safety in Green Bay's base packages, but the selection of a player like Louisville S Calvin Pryor in the first round would change those plans. The Packers gave up the fifth most passing touchdowns in the league last season.

Coach Mike McCarthy said he'd like to see DB Micah Hyde as a three-down player.

As a rookie last season, Hyde was a third corner that played on 39.4 percent of the snaps. This year, it's possible he'll compete to be a safety in base packages and then slide down to the slot in sub packages a la Charles Woodson in 2012. Hyde could be battling a rookie -- the Packers have been linked to first-round safety prospects Ha Ha Clinton-Dix and Calvin Pryor.
