Texans re-signed TE Ryan Griffin to a three-year, $9 million contract with $3.25 million guaranteed.
Griffin was linked to Detroit, but otherwise didn't draw much free-agent interest. He'll return as the No. 2 tight end behind C.J. Fiedorowicz. With Brock Osweiler gone, Griffin is unlikely to repeat the 74 targets he saw in 2016. Mar 11 - 6:31 PM

Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports the Texans and impending free agent TE Ryan Griffin have "mutual interest."

Griffin broke out somewhat as a pass catcher last season with 50 catches for 442 yards and two touchdowns, and he has always been a solid blocker. In a weak tight end group, he could have a surprisingly robust market. Griffin will remain behind C.J. Fiedorowicz in the pecking order if he re-signs with the Texans.

Texans TE Ryan Griffin went catch-less on two targets in Saturday's Divisional Round loss to the Patriots.

Despite an increased late-season role, Griffin was nowhere to be found in Saturday's loss as C.J. Fiedorowicz dominated the Texans’ tight end work against the Patriots. Griffin was overthrown on a late Brock Osweiler interception. An impending free agent, Griffin should draw significant interest after his 50-reception contract year. Griffin turned 27 this month and has emerged as a legitimate pass-catching threat.

Ryan Griffin caught 3-of-4 targets for 29 yards in the Texans' Wild Card win over the Raiders.

Griffin and C.J. Fiedorowicz each saw four targets. The two have each been seeing plenty of playing time over the past month and have become two of Brock Osweiler's favorite targets over the middle as safety blankets.

Ryan Griffin absorbed all eight of his targets for 85 yards Sunday in the Texans' Week 15 win over the Jaguars.

As expected, Griffin played a big role in the passing game while filling in for check-down artist C.J. Fiedorowicz (concussion). The vast majority of his production came in the second half with Tom Savage under center. He drew a crucial pass interference call in the fourth quarter that eventually led to the Texans’ first and only touchdown. Griffin could be a serviceable TE2 next week if Fiedorowicz is sidelined again versus Cincinnati.

Texans TE Ryan Griffin's passing-game role is expected to expand Week 15 against the Jaguars.

With C.J. Fiedorowicz out with a concussion, Griffin and rookie Stephen Anderson should see more targets this week. The Jaguars have been solid against the position most of the season, but Brock Osweiler targets his tight ends as much as any quarterback in the league. That volume makes Griffin a back-end streaming option.

Ryan Griffin caught two passes for 23 yards in Houston's Week 14 win over the Colts.

Griffin was mostly limited to blocking with the Texans going run heavy. C.J. Fiedorowicz left late to be checked for a possible concussion and didn't return. With Brock Osweiler relying on tight ends in the pass game, Griffin could find his way into some targets if Fiedorowicz misses time.

Texans TE Ryan Griffin has been removed from the Week 6 injury report.

Griffin has cleared the concussion protocol. He'll continue to rotate snaps with C.J. Fiedorowicz. Stephen Anderson (hamstring) was ruled out against the Colts.

Texans TE Ryan Griffin (concussion) returned to practice Thursday, getting in a limited session.

It suggests he has a chance at suiting up against the Colts. Griffin has emerged as one of Brock Osweiler's favorite check-down targets, but it's barely translated to TE2 value.

Texans TE Ryan Griffin is in the NFL's concussion protocol.

The good news is he **only** has a concussion after suffering a scary neck injury tackling Vikings S Andrew Sendejo following a Brock Osweiler interception. Griffin has been sharing time with C.J. Fiedorowicz and Stephen Anderson.

Texans TE Ryan Griffin exited Week 5 against the Vikings with a neck injury

Griffin injured himself tackling Andrew Sendejo after a Brock Osweiler interception. He stayed on the turf for a couple minutes but was able to walk to the sidelines. He did ride the cart into the locker room. Griffin had two catches for eight yards before exiting.

Ryan Griffin caught 8-of-10 targets for 52 yards in Houston's Week 3 loss to the Patriots.

Griffin entered the evening with only four targets through two games, but gobbled up checkdowns with Brock Osweiler giving up on a game where he was getting dominated. Griffin won't have TE2 appeal against the Titans in Week 4.

Texans TE Ryan Griffin (Achilles') has been cleared to practice.

Griffin sat out the offseason program, but only missed the first week of training camp. He's returning as the starter after posting a career-high 20/251/2 line in nine games last year. Griffin should be fully healthy for Week 1.

Texans coach Bill O'Brien believes TE Ryan Griffin (Achilles') will be ready for camp.

Griffin sat out the offseason program rehabbing an Achilles' injury after playing just nine games last year because of an MCL sprain. He should be fully healthy well before Week 1, but the Texans offense has not been kind to tight ends under O'Brien. Griffin is not worth drafting in even the deepest of standard leagues.

Texans TEs coach John Perry recently talked up Ryan Griffin.

"Ryan gives us ability in a lot of respects," Perry said. "He's not just one-dimensional. He can be effective in the pass game. He can be effective as a blocker." Griffin has loads of ability at 6'6/254, but hasn't been able to get on the field or stay on it through three seasons. He missed half of last year with a sprained MCL but still set career-highs across the board with a 20-251-2 line. Houston rivaled the Jets for the league's worst tight-end situation last season.
