Texans TE Ryan Griffin (concussion) returned to practice Thursday, getting in a limited session.

It suggests he has a chance at suiting up against the Colts. Griffin has emerged as one of Brock Osweiler's favorite check-down targets, but it's barely translated to TE2 value.
Oct 13 - 6:50 PM

Texans TE Ryan Griffin is in the NFL's concussion protocol.

The good news is he **only** has a concussion after suffering a scary neck injury tackling Vikings S Andrew Sendejo following a Brock Osweiler interception. Griffin has been sharing time with C.J. Fiedorowicz and Stephen Anderson.

Texans TE Ryan Griffin exited Week 5 against the Vikings with a neck injury

Griffin injured himself tackling Andrew Sendejo after a Brock Osweiler interception. He stayed on the turf for a couple minutes but was able to walk to the sidelines. He did ride the cart into the locker room. Griffin had two catches for eight yards before exiting.
Oct 9 - 3:15 PM

Ryan Griffin caught 8-of-10 targets for 52 yards in Houston's Week 3 loss to the Patriots.

Griffin entered the evening with only four targets through two games, but gobbled up checkdowns with Brock Osweiler giving up on a game where he was getting dominated. Griffin won't have TE2 appeal against the Titans in Week 4.
Sep 23 - 12:06 AM

Texans TE Ryan Griffin (Achilles') has been cleared to practice.

Griffin sat out the offseason program, but only missed the first week of training camp. He's returning as the starter after posting a career-high 20/251/2 line in nine games last year. Griffin should be fully healthy for Week 1.
Aug 5 - 8:05 PM

Texans coach Bill O'Brien believes TE Ryan Griffin (Achilles') will be ready for camp.

Griffin sat out the offseason program rehabbing an Achilles' injury after playing just nine games last year because of an MCL sprain. He should be fully healthy well before Week 1, but the Texans offense has not been kind to tight ends under O'Brien. Griffin is not worth drafting in even the deepest of standard leagues.
Jul 14 - 10:28 AM

Texans TEs coach John Perry recently talked up Ryan Griffin.

"Ryan gives us ability in a lot of respects," Perry said. "He's not just one-dimensional. He can be effective in the pass game. He can be effective as a blocker." Griffin has loads of ability at 6'6/254, but hasn't been able to get on the field or stay on it through three seasons. He missed half of last year with a sprained MCL but still set career-highs across the board with a 20-251-2 line. Houston rivaled the Jets for the league's worst tight-end situation last season.
Jun 29 - 11:11 AM

Texans TE Ryan Griffin (Achilles) will be sidelined until training camp.

Griffin is still rehabbing his 2015 Achilles' injury. He'll miss the entire offseason, but should be ready for the start of camp.
Jun 10 - 6:37 PM

Ryan Griffin caught 3-of-8 targets for 29 yards in the Texans' Wild Card loss to the Chiefs.

Griffin caught all three of his passes on simple check-downs. He could have done himself a favor by catching a 24-yard touchdown down the middle late in the blowout loss, but Griffin was unable to hang onto the ball. It was just part of the Texans' awful afternoon. Griffin took over as the Texans' No. 1 tight end after returning from short-term I.R., but the Texans' tight-end situation was the worst in the league. They'll be looking for an upgrade this offseason.
Jan 9 - 8:42 PM

Ryan Griffin caught 3-of-3 targets for 27 yards in the Texans' Week 17 win over the Jaguars.

Even with Nate Washington (hip) and Cecil Shorts (hamstring) banged up, Griffin will remain a lightly-targeted role player for the postseason.
Jan 3 - 7:03 PM

Ryan Griffin caught his only target for 13 yards Week 16 against the Titans.

Griffin was not any more involved in the offense than C.J. Fiedorowicz. After being heavily involved in the offense the first couple weeks after his return from injury, Griffin has fallen off the last two weeks.
Sun, Dec 27, 2015 05:22:00 PM

Ryan Griffin (Achilles') was downgraded to "limited" in Thursday's practice.

Mid-week downgrades are never good news, but the last-gasp TE2 should be good to go against the Titans.
Thu, Dec 24, 2015 05:32:00 PM

Ryan Griffin caught two passes for 30 yards in Week 16 against the Colts.

Griffin played a minor role even with Cecil Shorts sidelined. He won't be a TE2 option for Week 16.
Sun, Dec 20, 2015 05:10:00 PM

Ryan Griffin caught 1-of-6 targets for 20 yards in Week 14.

It was a drop-filled game for Griffin, who tied DeAndre Hopkins with a team-high six targets. He's taken on a bigger role over the last three weeks, but is barely on the TE2 radar. Griffin will take a 14/181/2 line into Week 15.
