Cowboys.com's Bryan Broaddus does not foresee Brice Butler pushing for Terrance Williams' starting job.
Butler has practiced strictly at X receiver -- Dez Bryant's (foot, ankle) position -- during OTAs, while Williams is locked in at Z. Broaddus believes Butler is Bryant's direct backup, not a threat to Williams at flanker. A 6-foot-3, 214-pound fourth-year speedster, Butler averaged 21.5 yards on 12 catches last season. He'll try to carve out a role as a situational deep threat. Jun 19 - 11:44 PM

Cowboys WR Brice Butler is working with the first-team offense at OTAs.

Dez Bryant (foot) is still taking it slow, giving Butler a chance to work with Tony Romo. Behind Bryant, the Cowboys don't have much at receiver. Butler is a 4.37 speed demon with great size (6'3/215) and a career 15.3 YPR average. The Cowboys figure to field one of the NFL's more concentrated offenses around Dez and Zeke Elliott, but Butler has a chance to carve out a secondary role.

SportsDay's Jon Machota said Cowboys WR Brice Butler is on his "list of potential breakout candidates."

Acquired from the Raiders in September, Butler missed several games with a hamstring injury, but he came on strong with eight catches for 134 yards over the final two weeks. With little talent behind Dez Bryant, Butler should be given every opportunity to show what he can do. We wouldn't rule out 4.37 speedster Butler pushing perennially-underwhelming Terrance Williams for snaps.

Brice Butler caught 4-of-10 targets for 60 yards in Week 17 against Washington.

Butler didn’t get consistent snaps until Week 15, but made an impact in two of his last three games. He could have a 2016 role with only Terrance Williams behind Dez Bryant. The Cowboys should be aggressive in improving their WR depth this offseason.
Jan 3 - 6:58 PM

Brice Butler caught 4-of-9 targets for 74 yards in Week 16 against the Bills.

Butler led the Cowboys in receiving with Dez Bryant sidelined. He looked on the same page with Kellen Moore, with his nine targets behind only Terrance Williams. Butler could make a case for a bigger role next year if he can close out Week 17 on a high-note.

The Cowboys plan to use the final two games to evaluate some of their younger players.

Kellen Moore is the most obvious player getting a big chance, but Brice Butler could see an increased role as well with Dez Bryant (foot, ankle) suddenly questionable. Butler will not be worth using this season, but Dallas has to find more playmakers on the outside. A big receiver with 4.4 wheels, Butler could earn a role next season by closing out this one strong.

Cowboys declared WR Brice Butler, QB Tony Romo, TE Geoff Swaim, OG Ronald Leary, OT Chaz Green, LB Mark Nzeocha and CB Deji Olatoye inactive for Week 14 against the Packers.

The Cowboys plan to keep Romo on the active roster as long as they're still mathematically alive in the playoff hunt.

Cowboys declared WR Brice Butler, QB Tony Romo, CB Deji Olatoye, LB Mark Nzeocha, OG Ronald Leary, OR Chaz Green, and TE Geoff Swaim inactive for Week 13 against the Redskins.

No surprises here. Romo remains on the active roster with his broken collarbone.

Cowboys WR Brice Butler (hamstring) has resumed practicing in full.

The Cowboys spent their Week 6 bye retooling the offense, but a bigger role for Butler doesn't appear to be in the offing.

Brice Butler (hamstring) hopes to return after the Cowboys' bye week.

That would put him on track to return October 25 against the Giants. Butler has been targeted once on 81 snaps this season. He's not a fantasy option.

Brice Butler exited Sunday night's Week 4 game against the Saints with a hamstring injury.

Butler went down at the end of a 67-yard catch in the third quarter. It was his only target of the night. The Cowboys ruled Butler out for the rest of the game.

Cowboys acquired WR Brice Butler from the Raiders for a conditional draft pick.

According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, the Cowboys will trade their 2016 fifth-rounder for Oakland's sixth-rounder if Butler lasts six games on the roster. A 2013 seventh rounder, Butler has always been an intriguing size/speed prospect. He stands in at 6-foot-3, 215 pounds with 4.4 wheels. He caught 21 passes in 15 games last season, and has put up nice numbers in the preseason, including this year. It's concerning that a team as talent-deficient as Oakland is giving up on him, of course, but GM Reggie McKenzie isn't exactly the best at evaluation. Butler could eventually come into a game-day role for the receiver-needy Cowboys.

Brice Butler's playing time last year was reportedly limited by mental errors.

Butler played on just 29.4 percent of the snaps last season, posting a 21-280-2 line. At 6'3/214 with 4.37 speed, he's capable of much more. We saw that during the preseason, when Butler caught 13 passes for 206 yards with four touchdowns in four games. Whatever the mental issues are, Butler will be a candidate to flash if he can get them cleaned up and get an opportunity. He's a name to monitor.

Brice Butler caught one pass for six yards in Sunday's Week 17 loss at Denver.

Butler appeared in 15 games for the Raiders, but never got a real chance to play significant snaps. He finished with 21-280-2 in his second NFL season. We wouldn't give up on this kid in deep Dynasty formats though, as he's flashed difference-making ability in preseason games. Butler goes 6'3/210 with sub-4.4 speed and will be back for the third year of his rookie contract.

Raiders WR Brice Butler secured 2-of-4 targets for 12 yards and a touchdown in Oakland's Week 10 loss to Denver.

Butler was the recipient of Derek Carr's first touchdown pass, securing a five-yard TD in the second quarter. Butler shares sub-package receiver snaps with Kenbrell Thompkins, Denarius Moore, and Vincent Brown behind starters James Jones and Andre Holmes. Lacking re-draft value, Butler is just a deep Dynasty stash.
