Raiders declared WR Brice Butler, QB Matt McGloin, CB Chimdi Chekwa, MLB Nick Roach, G Tony Bergstrom, T Matt McCants, and DE Shelby Harris inactive for Week 1 against the Jets.
Butler had a strong preseason, but is still bringing up the rear of the depth chart. Chekwa has a knee injury, while Roach is still sidelined with a concussion. Miles Burris and Kaluka Maiava will pick up the slack for Roach. Sep 7 - 11:44 AM

Brice Butler caught three passes for 60 yards with two touchdowns in Friday's preseason game against the Packers.

Butler continues to light it up against third-stringers. The 2013 seventh-rounder out of San Diego State now has 11 catches for 178 yards with three touchdowns in three preseason games, surely solidifying his spot on the 53-man roster.

Raiders WR Brice Butler has been diagnosed with a concussion.

It dampens Butler's roster chances, as he's now unlikely to suit up for this weekend's regular-season dress rehearsal. The No. 209 overall pick of last year's draft, Butler caught nine passes across 10 games.

Raiders second-year WR Brice Butler will enter training camp on the roster bubble.

Butler flashed as a seventh-round rookie last preseason, but wound up dropping three of his 17 regular season targets, and didn't catch a pass after Week 6. Blessed with size (6'3/214) and speed (4.37), Butler remains a project entering his second season. His roster odds took a hit when James Jones was signed.

Raiders rookie WR Brice Butler caught three passes for 54 yards in Monday night's Week 3 loss to the Broncos.

Butler, a seventh-round pick out of San Diego State, was targeted four times on the night but had a brutal drop on a first-quarter third-and-17 pass that would have been a first down. Butler shined in the preseason, catching five passes for 108 yards and a score. He has just six catches for 72 yards after three regular-season games. This goes without saying, but leave him on the wire.

Raiders rookie WR Brice Butler has five catches for 108 yards and a touchdown through three preseason games.

One of the few shining lights of a miserable Raiders summer, Butler has flashed big-play ability while pushing for first-team snaps. At the moment, he's still the No. 4 wide receiver behind Denarius Moore, Rod Streater, and Jacoby Ford. Moore has really struggled, however, while Streater suffered a Friday night concussion and Ford has long demonstrated poor durability.

CSN Bay Area calls seventh-round WR Brice Butler the "offensive player of (Raiders) camp."

Per beat writer Scott Bair, Butler has displayed "smooth route running and ability to make the big catch." Butler could open the regular season as high as third on the depth chart, but it won't be a fantasy relevant position in the Raiders' ramshackle offense.

Rookie WR Brice Butler earned "some" first-team reps in practice this week after his 70-yard, one-score preseason opener.

He reportedly "seemed comfortable working in the slot," which indicates Butler has picked up the playbook well because he understands multiple receiver positions. Butler appears to have leapfrogged Juron Criner, and is now pushing oft-injured Jacoby Ford for snaps behind Denarius Moore and Rod Streater. Butler had scant college production, but runs 4.37 at 6-foot-3 and 214 pounds.

Seventh-round pick Brice Butler is pushing Juron Criner for the Raiders' No. 4 receiver job after a strong preseason opener.

Butler has generated some buzz in practices, and on Friday night led Oakland with two catches for 70 yards and a touchdown, both via UDFA QB Matt McGloin. Criner had one catch for 23 yards. The Raiders have an open competition at fourth wideout behind Denarius Moore, Rod Streater, and oft-injured Jacoby Ford.

Raiders signed No. 209 overall pick WR Brice Butler to a four-year contract.

Butler has a nice blend of size (6-foot-3, 214) and speed (4.37 forty), but he didn't produce much at San Diego State. He may shine in shorts and a t-shirt, but Butler is going to have to prove himself in exhibition action.

According to the Contra Costa Times, seventh-round WR Brice Butler "made like Juron Criner" at Raiders rookie minicamp, making a host of impressive plays.

It's meant as a compliment, but Criner lit up pad-less workouts last offseason before not doing much of anything in the preseason or regular season. Standing in at 6-foot-3, 214 pounds with 4.37 wheels, Butler has always looked good in practice, but didn't do much on the field for San Diego State. The preseason will be his first real test.

Raiders selected San Diego State WR Brice Butler with the No. 209 overall pick.

Standing in at 6-foot-3, 214 pounds with 4.37 wheels, Butler has an intriguing size/speed combo, but had trouble producing on the field in college. The Raiders are surely hoping they can mold his considerable natural abilities into a late-blooming deep threat, but Butler simply isn't a natural pass-catcher. Even with the Raiders thin at wideout, Butler will have trouble making the team.
