Cowboys re-signed WR Brice Butler to a one-year, $1.1 million contract.
Butler caught 16-of-33 targets for 219 yards and three touchdowns across 447 snaps last season as the Cowboys' No. 4 receiver. He's hoping for a bigger role, but we doubt it comes with the Cowboys likely to replace free agent Terrance Williams as the No. 2 behind Dez Bryant. Butler is just a deep threat. Mar 8 - 12:14 PM

Brice Butler caught his lone target for a 21-yard touchdown in the Cowboys' Week 16 win over the Lions.

Butler has now posted back-to-back one-catch, 21-yard games. His touchdown capped the opening series and was an absolute dime from Dak Prescott down the seam. Butler has three touchdowns as the No. 3/4 receiver.

Brice Butler caught 1-of-3 targets for a 20-yard touchdown Week 6 against the Packers.

Butler's touchdown was a toe-tap grab on a beautiful throw by Dak Prescott late in the first half. Butler had two more opportunities for big plays, but he could not come down with a tough catch on the sideline and dropped another great throw by Dak in the second half. With Dez Bryant expected back after the bye, Butler is headed back to the bench.

Brice Butler caught 2-of-3 targets for 20 yards in the Cowboys' Week 5 win over the Bengals.

Butler couldn't repeat his touchdown magic from last week, getting an early-game TD wiped off the board by penalty. Butler is the direct backup for Dez Bryant (knee), whose Week 6 status against the Packers is unclear.

Brice Butler caught 5-of-9 targets for 41 yards and a touchdown in the Cowboys' Week 4 win over the 49ers.

Butler led all Cowboys wide receivers in snaps played (62) and was targeted twice by Dak Prescott in the end zone, securing the first. Butler's playing time is entirely contingent on Dez Bryant's (knee) health. An in-game report from Jay Glazer indicated Dez has a shot to return in Week 5 versus Cincinnati.

Cowboys WR Brice Butler said he is "more confident" in the offense this season.

The Cowboys traded for Butler after Dez Bryant broke his foot in the season opener last year. Butler did not do much while Bryant was out the first time, but he did manage eight catches for 134 yards over the final two weeks of the season. With Bryant likely to miss time again with a hairline fracture in his knee, Butler should get his chance in the starting lineup. He is an interesting sleeper against the 49ers.

Brice Butler caught three passes for 74 yards and a touchdown in Saturday’s preseason game.

Butler got most of his yards on a 58-yard catch. He was Dak Prescott’s top target, scoring on a one-yard fade. Butler has four catches for 96 yards through the first two preseason games.

Cowboys.com's Bryan Broaddus does not foresee Brice Butler pushing for Terrance Williams' starting job.

Butler has practiced strictly at X receiver -- Dez Bryant's (foot, ankle) position -- during OTAs, while Williams is locked in at Z. Broaddus believes Butler is Bryant's direct backup, not a threat to Williams at flanker. A 6-foot-3, 214-pound fourth-year speedster, Butler averaged 21.5 yards on 12 catches last season. He'll try to carve out a role as a situational deep threat.

Cowboys WR Brice Butler is working with the first-team offense at OTAs.

Dez Bryant (foot) is still taking it slow, giving Butler a chance to work with Tony Romo. Behind Bryant, the Cowboys don't have much at receiver. Butler is a 4.37 speed demon with great size (6'3/215) and a career 15.3 YPR average. The Cowboys figure to field one of the NFL's more concentrated offenses around Dez and Zeke Elliott, but Butler has a chance to carve out a secondary role.

SportsDay's Jon Machota said Cowboys WR Brice Butler is on his "list of potential breakout candidates."

Acquired from the Raiders in September, Butler missed several games with a hamstring injury, but he came on strong with eight catches for 134 yards over the final two weeks. With little talent behind Dez Bryant, Butler should be given every opportunity to show what he can do. We wouldn't rule out 4.37 speedster Butler pushing perennially-underwhelming Terrance Williams for snaps.

Brice Butler caught 4-of-10 targets for 60 yards in Week 17 against Washington.

Butler didn’t get consistent snaps until Week 15, but made an impact in two of his last three games. He could have a 2016 role with only Terrance Williams behind Dez Bryant. The Cowboys should be aggressive in improving their WR depth this offseason.

Brice Butler caught 4-of-9 targets for 74 yards in Week 16 against the Bills.

Butler led the Cowboys in receiving with Dez Bryant sidelined. He looked on the same page with Kellen Moore, with his nine targets behind only Terrance Williams. Butler could make a case for a bigger role next year if he can close out Week 17 on a high-note.

The Cowboys plan to use the final two games to evaluate some of their younger players.

Kellen Moore is the most obvious player getting a big chance, but Brice Butler could see an increased role as well with Dez Bryant (foot, ankle) suddenly questionable. Butler will not be worth using this season, but Dallas has to find more playmakers on the outside. A big receiver with 4.4 wheels, Butler could earn a role next season by closing out this one strong.

Cowboys declared WR Brice Butler, QB Tony Romo, TE Geoff Swaim, OG Ronald Leary, OT Chaz Green, LB Mark Nzeocha and CB Deji Olatoye inactive for Week 14 against the Packers.

The Cowboys plan to keep Romo on the active roster as long as they're still mathematically alive in the playoff hunt.

Cowboys declared WR Brice Butler, QB Tony Romo, CB Deji Olatoye, LB Mark Nzeocha, OG Ronald Leary, OR Chaz Green, and TE Geoff Swaim inactive for Week 13 against the Redskins.

No surprises here. Romo remains on the active roster with his broken collarbone.
