NFL suspended Lions DE Armonty Bryant four games for violating the league's substance-abuse policy.
The Lions re-signed Bryant in March even though he served a pair of 2016 suspensions. His latest ban probably makes his 53-man roster spot untenable. Still only 27, Bryant generated three sacks on just 104 snaps last season. He could get one last NFL chance before flaming out of the league. Jul 18 - 4:00 PM

Lions re-signed DE Armonty Bryant to a one-year, $855,000 contract.

It's a minimum-salary benefit deal. A situational pass rusher, Bryant served two suspensions last season, one for violating the PED policy, the other for violating the substance-abuse policy. Then he finished the year on injured reserve. Nevertheless, he tallied three sacks in five games. Still only 27 (in May), Bryant has the inside track to a 53-man roster spot.

Lions placed DE Armonty Bryant on injured reserve, ending his season.

His injury is unclear. A situational pass rusher, Bryant had just come off suspension in Week 13. Going on 27, Bryant is headed to free agency. Now injured, Bryant served both substance-abuse and PED bans this season. In other words, his market isn't going to be hot in March.

Lions activated DE Armonty Bryant from the reserve/suspended list.

Bryant will rejoin Detroit after missing the last three weeks. He also served a four-game PED suspension to open the season. Bryant's return will upgrade the Lions pass rush.

NFL suspended Lions DE Armonty Bryant three games for violating the league's substance-abuse policy.

The ban stems from a summer drug arrest. Bryant was suspended the first four games of the season for violating the PED policy. It's a decent-sized loss for the Lions' awful defense, as Bryant has three sacks in four games. He'll return in Week 13.

Lions activated DE Armonty Bryant from the exempt list.

Bryant was suspended the first four games. He'll be active after getting claimed off waivers this week. The Lions also promoted LB Steve Longa from the practice squad while waiving WR Aaron Dobson and OT Brian Mihalik.

Lions claimed DE Armonty Bryant off waivers from the Browns.

Wallace Gilberry is headed to injured reserve. Bryant is in legal limbo — just returned from a PED suspension, he's facing another ban stemming for a summer drug arrest — but the Lions will take all the help they can get for their reeling defense. Bryant tallied 5.5 sacks last season, and should immediately contribute as a situational pass rusher.

Browns waived OLB Armonty Bryant.

Bryant was scheduled to return from a four-game suspension this week, but he could face an additional ban after being convicted on misdemeanor drug charges over the summer. Still, he is eligible to play right now and recorded 5.5 sacks last season. Someone could take the plunge.

Suspended Browns OLB Armonty Bryant is likely facing additional NFL discipline after being convicted on misdemeanor drug charges.

Already banned Weeks 1-4 for PEDs, Bryant could miss several more games after being convicted of "attempted drug possession" following a guilty plea on Wednesday. In other words, Bryant didn't even get the drugs. As Bryant was arrested and charged for DUI shortly after the 2014 draft, he was already in the NFL's substance abuse program. We probably won't see him play much this year.

NFL suspended Browns OLB Armonty Bryant four games for violating the league's policy on performance enhancing drugs.

A bad offseason just got worse for Bryant, who was recently indicted on felony drug possession charges following his arrest on Christmas morning. Bryant has a history of off-field incidents and new head coach Hue Jackson is invoking a zero tolerance policy in the wake of last year's drama with Johnny Manziel. It's unclear what the future holds for Bryant in Cleveland.

Browns OLB Armonty Bryant has been indicted on two counts of felony drug possession stemming from his December 25 arrest in Cuyahoga County, Ohio.

Former Browns DB De'Ante Saunders has been indicted for improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle. The two are scheduled to be arraigned in court on February 24. Highway patrol troopers found guns, ammo, and prescription drugs Adderall and Oxycodone in the car early Christmas morning. Saunders was released from the practice squad, and Bryant was benched for the final two games of the season after registering 5.5 sacks on the year.

Browns OLB Armonty Bryant and practice squad CB De'Ante Saunders were arrested early Christmas morning.

Saunders was arrested for operating a vehicle while impaired and speeding, while Bryant was arrested for possession of the prescription drug Adderall. Browns GM Ray Farmer has already announced Bryant will not travel with the team to Kansas City, and it is likely Saunders will get released from the practice squad quickly. Bryant was suspended three games in college for selling marijuana twice to an undercover officer and pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence while on campus at East Central University.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer expects Armonty Bryant (knee) to "easily make the switch" to outside linebacker.

The Browns need depth at outside linebacker and plan to use Bryant as a situational pass rusher. Bryant played left end in six games last year prior to landing on I.R. His ability to regain pre-injury form is a concern. Seven months removed from ACL surgery, Bryant is on track for training camp.

Browns coach Mike Pettine said DE Armonty Bryant could play some outside linebacker this season.

Bryant's 2014 season came to an end after suffering a torn ACL in Week 6. Pettine wants Bryant to be in the "pass-rush mix" when he returns to full strength. Pettine also confirmed Phil Taylor's move from a three-technique defensive end to nose tackle. Ishmaa'ily Kitchen will join him on the inside.

Browns DE Armonty Bryant (knee) is "on schedule" with his recovery.

Bryant has been cleared to resume a running program in his rehab from ACL surgery. Barring setbacks, he could be ready for the start of 2015 training camp. Bryant appeared in five games (two starts) prior to going down last year and should return to compete for a sub-package role.
