Michael Cox rushed nine times for 19 yards and caught one pass for 11 yards in Sunday's Week 8 win at Philadelphia.
Cox got the nominal start, but he played far behind Peyton Hillis once again. It's a surefire sign that Cox won't have a role when the Giants come out of their bye. Brandon Jacobs (hamstring) and Andre Brown (leg) should both be back. Sun, Oct 27, 2013 04:54:00 PM

Michael Cox rushed for 23 yards on 11 carries in Monday night's Week 7 win over the Vikings.

Cox caught two passes for one yard. Peyton Hillis got the start in the Giants' backfield, but Cox received the first carry on the second play and rushed six times total for 22 yards on the opening drive. He was a non-factor thereafter. Cox dances way too much and doesn't get up field. He has a lot of work to do as a runner. Cox likely won't be a factor in the backfield again this season. Brandon Jacobs (hamstring) will look to return next week against the Eagles. Even if he can't, Hillis will see the bulk of the action.

The Giants are expected to start rookie Michael Cox on Monday Night Football against the Vikings.

The NY Daily News cautions that Peyton Hills and Cox "will both play a lot, though," despite the fact that Hillis was signed off the street just five days ago. Hillis did spend training camp with the Buccaneers, whose offensive coordinator is ex-Giants QBs coach Mike Sullivan. So he's got an idea of the offense, and will probably be New York's primary pass-protection back against the Vikings. Cox offers more upside because he's got more juice as a runner and flashed big-play ability in the preseason on receptions and on kickoff returns.

Giants rookie RB Michael Cox says the coaching staff has informed him he will play in Week 7 against the Vikings.

Cox is worth grabbing in 14- and 16-team leagues, and should've been rostered in all Dynasty settings weeks ago. He flashed plus burst and lateral movement in the preseason. Still, don't expect a significant Week 7 workload. "There are some things that I think right now we feel good about," coach Tom Coughlin said regarding Cox. "There are other things not so [good]." The Giants don't know yet whether Cox can adequately protect Eli Manning.

Michael Cox was the only Giants running back practicing Monday.

The Giants played the Thursday night game in Week 6, so they held a light workout Monday. David Wilson (neck) was getting a second opinion, Da'Rel Scott (hamstring) is out multiple weeks, Andre Brown (leg) isn't eligible to play until Week 10 and Brandon Jacobs (quad) took the day off after his fluky eruption against the Bears. The Giants don't think Cox is ready to play, but they might be forced into using him as a change-of-pace back behind Jacobs in Week 7.

Coach Tom Coughlin said rookie RB Michael Cox still has some more learning to do.

Coughlin seems to be suggesting that Cox's role won't grow in the wake of Da'Rel Scott's release. It's another fantastic sign for the potential usage of David Wilson in Sunday's game against the Eagles. Wilson should set a season-high in snaps.

Giants declared RB Michael Cox, CB Corey Webster, T David Diehl, TE Adrien Robinson, OL Brandon Mosley, QB Ryan Nassib, and DT Johnathan Hankins inactive for Week 3 at Carolina.

There are no surprises here. Cox is the Giants' No. 4 tailback behind David Wilson, Brandon Jacobs, and Da'Rel Scott.

Giants declared RB Michael Cox, QB Ryan Nassib, G Brandon Mosley, RT David Diehl, TE Adrien Robinson, DT Johnathan Hankins, and LB Allen Bradford inactive for Week 2 against the Broncos.

Cox is now No. 4 on the depth chart after Brandon Jacobs' signing. Diehl is still out with a bum thumb. Robinson has a foot injury.

The Giants reportedly don't believe seventh-round RB Michael Cox is "ready."

Even after David Wilson was benched Sunday night, Cox didn't get in the game. He's behind Da'Rel Scott and is only being used to return kickoffs.

Michael Cox is listed behind Da'Rel Scott on the Giants' official depth chart.

Cox is the third-team running back and first-string kick returner. We're expecting David Wilson to handle a massive workload on Sunday night, with Scott and Cox mixing in sparingly on obvious passing downs. If Wilson were to go down, the Giants would almost certainly sign a veteran running back. They worked out Beanie Wells and Jonathan Dwyer Tuesday.

ESPN New York suggests seventh-round pick Michael Cox will handle kickoff returns for the Giants this year.

David Wilson is expected to be used on kick returns situationally, but definitely won't do it full time because he's going to be a backfield workhorse. Cox was highly impressive in preseason games, showing pass-catching ability and lateral agility as a runner. He's worth rostering in deep Dynasty leagues.

According to the Newark Star-Ledger, Giants seventh-round RB Michael Cox has shown "dazzling and explosive" running skills in training camp.

"He's done some nice things," said coach Tom Coughlin. Cox ran forty times of 4.58 and 4.63 before the draft, at 6-foot and 220 pounds. He only rushed for 715 yards as a senior at UMass, but the Minutemen went 1-11. Cox is a candidate for No. 3 tailback duties, competing with Da'Rel Scott and Ryan Torain.

Giants agreed to terms with No. 253 overall pick RB Michael Cox on a four-year contract.

The second to last pick of the draft, Cox has a power-back pedigree the Giants can fall back on if injury-prone runner Andre Brown can't survive camp unscathed. Cox's most likely home is the practice squad.

Giants selected UMass RB Michael Cox with the No. 253 overall pick.

Cox (5-foot-11 7/8, 220) wasn't invited to the Combine but turned some heads with a solid Pro Day, running forty times of 4.63 and 4.58 with a 38-inch vertical and 10-foot-7 broad jump. The Giants now have some offseason power back insurance behind Andre Brown, even if Cox will struggle to make the final 53.
