The Jags had until Tuesday to get their roster down to 75, but they decided to get it over with quickly. Jeff Tuel is the most famous name on this list. Tuel Time started one game for the Bills in 2013, the only start of his career. Khairi Fortt was a fourth-round pick of the Saints in 2014. A standout at both Penn State and Cal, Fortt has dealt with knee injuries since college. Sun, Aug 30, 2015 12:12:00 PM

Jaguars claimed QB Jeff Tuel off waivers from the Bills.

They waived UDFA Jake Waters to make room. The Jaguars hired ex-Bills coach Doug Marrone as their assistant head coach/offensive line, which probably explains the match here. Tuel will compete to be the Jags' No. 3 quarterback.

Bills waived QB Jeff Tuel.

Tuel spent the last two years on Buffalo's practice squad. He struggled mightily in his only NFL appearance, throwing three interceptions in a 2013 spot start against the Chiefs. The Bills claimed Matt Simms off waivers to replace Tuel.

Bills signed QB Jeff Tuel to the practice squad.

Tuel got the heave ho after the Bills added Kyle Orton, but will be the first man up if something happens to Orton or E.J. Manuel. Tuel was ineffective this preseason, completing 29-of-45 passes for 236 yards (5.24 YPA), two touchdowns and two interceptions.

Bills waived or released QB Jeff Tuel, S Deon Broomfield, LB Jimmy Gaines, WR Caleb Holley, DE Ikponmwosa Igbinosun, DE Bryan Johnson, S Kenny Ladler and G Antoine McClain.

Tuel had beaten out Thad Lewis, but loses his roster spot to newly acquired Kyle Orton. The Bills will likely try to get the former UDFA out of Washington State onto the practice squad.

WGR 550 Buffalo's Joe Buscaglia believes Jeff Tuel has overtaken Thad Lewis as the Bills' backup quarterback to E.J. Manuel.

The Bills arguably have the worst quarterback depth chart in the league, and the QB situation has been exacerbated by Lewis' poor camp. He may even be in danger of falling behind Dennis Dixon. Tuel is a second-year UDFA out of Washington State. He's essentially a poor man's version of Brian Hoyer.

Jeff Tuel completed 18-of-39 passes for 229 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions in the Bills' Week 9 loss to Kansas City.

He scrambled three times for 17 yards. Tuel did well to not absorb a single sack against Kansas City's defense, but threw a 101-yard pick six to Sean Smith and clearly lacks arm talent to be a starting NFL quarterback. His passes consistently wobble Matt Flynn style. The CBS announcers stated during Sunday's game -- repeatedly -- that E.J. Manuel (knee) is on track to start in Week 10 against Pittsburgh. We're not sure those were reliable "reports," but the Bills can do better than Tuel, even if it means reinserting Thad Lewis at less than full health.

Jeff Tuel is the Bills' Week 9 starting quarterback versus Kansas City.

Fire up the Chiefs' fantasy defense. Buffalo's Week 9 inactives are QBs Thad Lewis and E.J. Manuel, CB Justin Rogers, RB Ronnie Wingo, LB Ty Powell, DB Brandon Smith, and OG Antoine McClain. C.J. Spiller and Fred Jackson are active.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Jeff Tuel will start for the Bills on Sunday against the Chiefs.

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora had a similar report Saturday night. Thad Lewis is battling sore ribs and the flu and will not play after practicing just one day this week. Tuel was lost when filling in for an injured E.J. Manuel in Week 5. Fire up the Kansas City defense as the top unit this week.

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports Jeff Tuel will start at quarterback for Sunday's game against the Chiefs.

Tuel struggled mightily filling in for E.J. Manuel in Week 5, so expect the Bills to go run-heavy behind C.J. Spiller and Fred Jackson. Thad Lewis (ribs) returned to practice Friday, but is listed as doubtful and not expected to start. Matt Flynn will serve as the No. 2 quarterback this week.

On in relief of an injured E.J. Manuel (knee), Bills rookie QB Jeff Tuel was ineffective in Buffalo's Week 5 loss to the Browns, completing just 8-of-20 passes for 80 yards and a game-sealing pick six.

Just five months removed from going undrafted, Tuel was predictably overmatched. His throws lacked zip while his feet were happy. The undrafted free agent blatantly stared down his read on his game-ending interception. Although Tuel will have 10 days to get ready, the entire Bills offense will go in the tank if he has to start Week 6 against the Bengals. The Bills should be in the market for an actual backup quarterback.

Coach Doug Marrone told reporters Monday the Bills are currently planning to start UDFA QB Jeff Tuel in Week 1 against the Patriots.

Tuel would be the first undrafted rookie quarterback to ever start a season opener. Ever. Marrone is still "hoping" E.J. Manuel (knee scope) will play, but the Bills would be smart to avoid rushing their franchise-quarterback hopeful's recovery. A Washington State product, Tuel played in Mike Leach's pass-happy spread offense and showed "very little arm strength" on college film, according to ex-NFL scout Russ Lande. Expect C.J. Spiller to pile up carries against New England, even if when Buffalo falls behind.

Bills signed Washington State QB Jeff Tuel.

Tuel (6-foot-3, 218) completed 61.3 percent of his career passes with a 33:25 TD-to-INT ratio, starting 26 games. He missed two games as a senior with a collarbone injury. Tuel has some athleticism (4.60 forty time) and a quick, compact delivery, but his passes lack velocity and his efficiency tanks under pressure. He's a long shot to develop into a viable No. 2 quarterback, and Buffalo needs veterans around raw first-round pick E.J. Manuel.
