Redskins coach Mike Shanahan anticipates Santana Moss' role staying the same in 2013.
"He did a great job in our third-down package," said Shanahan. "I expect him to come in in the same type of shape and make the same plays he did last year." Moss played only 43 percent of Washington's offensive snaps, catching 41 balls for 573 yards and eight touchdowns. Regression will likely catch up to his TDs. Mar 22 - 1:57 PM

The Redskins have cleared $2 million in salary cap room by reworking Santana Moss' contract.

They're now believed to be roughly $3 million under the cap, giving the Skins some flexibility to sign a free-agent cornerback. Moss' restructure makes it likely he'll return to the slot-receiver role in Washington, though he may have to compete. Moss turns 34 in June. His salary previously was $4.15 million.

Santana Moss is a candidate to be released.

Moss' cap number is $6.1 million, and Washington could save $4.5 million by releasing him. With the Redskins wanting to sign a couple of free agents, the team needs to clear some cap space. Declining veterans Moss, DeAngelo Hall, and London Fletcher have all been mentioned as potential salary cap casualties.

Santana Moss' cap number for 2013 is $6.1 million.

Clearly, Moss is going to have to restructure his deal if he hopes to return to the Redskins. He's now entering his age-34 season and is coming off a year in which he played limited snaps exclusively out of the slot, finishing with 41 catches for 573 yards. Moss was a major part of the goal-line package as he scored eight touchdowns. Still, the Washington Post suggests Leonard Hankerson and Aldrick Robinson as in-house candidates to move into the slot if Moss is dumped.
Feb 12 - 8:39 AM

Santana Moss' base salary jumps from $2.65 million in 2012 to $4.15 million in 2013.

Moss held up well in the slot, leading the team with eight touchdowns. He turns 34 in June, however, and his salary is prohibitive for a declining receiver who no longer makes plays after the catch. Moss will likely be asked to take a pay cut.
Jan 8 - 1:13 PM

Santana Moss caught three passes for just 19 yards in the Redskins' Wild Card round loss to the Seahawks.

Moss was a non-factor as his longest play went for just 10 yards against a Seahawks defense that dominated the final three quarters. He finished 41st in fantasy points this season, thanks to an unrepeatable eight touchdowns. Due $2.65 million in 2013, the 32-year-old may be a candidate for release this offseason.
Jan 6 - 8:26 PM

Santana Moss caught two passes for 22 yards in Washington's Week 17 win over the Cowboys.

He added one rush for two yards. Moss played a key part in the Redskins' season-ending, seven-game winning streak, but proved to be a much more important "real-life player" than fantasy contributor despite his fluky touchdown rate. His 41 catches and 573 yards were both his fewest since 2002. Due $4.15 million in 2013, Moss will likely be back with the Redskins, but has crossed the "role player" threshold.

Santana Moss caught two passes for 26 yards with a touchdown in the Redskins' Week 16 win over the Eagles.

Incredibly, Moss now has eight touchdowns on the season despite catching just 39 balls all year. As a quick slot receiver, the Redskins have a package of plays for him in the red zone and it paid off with a 22-yard toe-dragging touchdown in the third quarter of this one. Moss will be a role player once again in the regular season finale against the Cowboys next week.

Santana Moss caught five passes for 57 yards in the Redskins' Week 15 win over the Browns.

Moss operated strictly in three-wide sets out of the slot. He is the Redskins' go-to-guy on wideout screens, but it's not a reliable role for fantasy owners. Moss has a total of 12 catches for 151 yards and one touchdown in the last four weeks.

Santana Moss caught three passes for 52 yards versus the Ravens in Week 14.

He was targeted just four times. Although Moss has scored seven times this season, he's topped 50 yards in just three of 13 games. He doesn't need to be rostered in 12- and 14-team leagues.

Santana Moss was kept off the stat sheet in Monday night's Week 13 win over the Giants.

Moss wasn't targeted a single time in the victory. Pierre Garcon saw 11 targets, while Josh Morgan finished second on the team with four. Monday night just proved that when Garcon is in the lineup, no other Washington receiver can be trusted on a weekly basis. Three-quarters of the season is in the books, and Moss is on pace for a 38/554/9 line. The touchdown total has saved any fantasy owner that has been playing Moss.

Santana Moss caught four passes for 42 yards and a touchdown in Washington's Week 12 win over Dallas.

Moss flukily now has seven touchdowns -- a personal high for him since the 2005 season. As a rotational slot receiver in a run-heavy offense, Moss' role as a roughly 40 percent player in the offense prevents him from being a reliable fantasy option. He's a WR4 entering a Week 13 date with the visiting Giants.

Santana Moss caught one pass for a 61-yard touchdown in Week 11 versus the Eagles.

Moss was targeted just the one time on 15 attempts for the Redskins. Robert Griffin III heaved a deep ball up for grabs, and Moss hauled it while Kurt Coleman and Brandon Boykin collided at the 5-yard line. Moss doesn't need to be rostered in 12- and 14-team leagues going forward.

Santana Moss (concussion) is probable for Week 11 after getting in a full week of practice.

Moss is good to go coming off the Redskins' bye week, but Washington's receiver corps is extremely hard to figure for Week 11 with Pierre Garcon set to return from his foot injury. Moss isn't a recommended WR4/5.

Santana Moss (concussion) has been medically cleared to suit up in Week 11, and is practicing in full.

"I mean, I ain’t supposed to talk much about it, but it really wasn’t bad," Moss said after practicing Monday. "This is the first time y’all are talking to me, but I walked out of there the day of the game just like this, so I’m cool." Moss should resume manning the slot against the Eagles.
