After agreeing to a one-year contract with the Cowboys on Tuesday night, RG Brandon Moore has decided to retire instead of join the team.
Moore, 33, "could not bring himself to get on the plane and leave his family," per ESPN's Adam Schefter. He informed the Cowboys of his decision Wednesday morning. "I'm a man of my word," Moore said. "I hated letting [Cowboys OC and OL coach] Bill [Callahan] down." There were whispers last month that Moore had thought about retirement, but he shot them down. He ends his ten-year career with 142 starts and one Pro Bowl berth (2011). The Cowboys are again on the lookout for guard help. Wed, Aug 7, 2013 09:23:00 AM

Cowboys signed RG Brandon Moore to a one-year contract.

It's a nice signing for an offensive line that desperately needed interior help. Moore is 33 years old now, but made a Pro Bowl as recently as 2011 and in 2012 graded out as Pro Football Focus' No. 4 guard, behind only Evan Mathis (Eagles), Marshal Yanda (Ravens), and Alex Boone (49ers). Moore received particularly strong marks as a run blocker, which should help DeMarco Murray's cause. From left to right, Dallas' offensive line now reads LT Tyron Smith, LG Ronald Leary, C Travis Frederick, RG Moore, RT Doug Free. It's getting better.

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports the Cowboys are "in talks" with free agent OG Brandon Moore.

Both of the Cowboys' starting guards are on the shelf, and Moore is far-and-away the best remaining interior lineman, so a deal would make a lot of sense. The Cowboys are also reportedly considering free agent OG Brian Waters. Someone should be signed by Wednesday.

Updating a previous item, free agent G Brandon Moore says he does not intend to retire.

Considering Moore was a 2011 Pro Bowler and graded out as PFF's No. 4 overall guard last year, retirement wouldn't make much sense. He says he's "in shape," "ready to go," and just waiting for the right opportunity. In other words, Moore wants starting-caliber money. It remains to be seen if he'll get that at age 33.

Former Jets G Brandon Moore is expected to retire.

Moore started 142 games over his solid 10-year career, making a Pro Bowl in 2011 and grading out as Pro Football Focus' No. 4 overall guard last year while starting all 16 games. He drew interest from the Lions and Dolphins in free agency, but it appears that his salary demands were too rich in a down market. At age 33, Moore didn't want to play on a minimum kind of deal.

One personnel man told the National Football Post's Dan Pompei that he thinks free agent OG Brandon Moore is "overhyped."

Moore, 33 in June, is one of the better free agents left, but he's nothing more than a stopgap at this point. Moore is said to be seeking "starter money" -- $3-4 million annually -- in what has already proved to be a down market.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported on Total Access Friday that free agent OG Brandon Moore remains unsigned because he "wants starter money."

Starter money on the 2013 free-agent market for a guard is something between $3.5 million annually (Donald Thomas) and $7.8 million per year (Andy Levitre). Moore is probably targeting a Thomas-like deal, but getting $1.5 million to $2.5 million offers. 33 years old, Moore has visited the Lions and Dolphins while drawing lighter interest from the Cowboys and Bears.

Free agent OG Brandon Moore visited the Lions, but left without a contract.

It's unclear when the visit took place. MLive.com believes Moore may not become a real option for the Lions until after the draft. He may be off the market by then.

Free agent OG Brandon Moore has yet to visit the Cowboys.

Moore has been connected to Big D for the better part of a week, but the Cowboys are out of money again after signing LB Justin Durant and DB Will Allen. Reports have pegged Dallas as having as little as $25,000 to spend. If/when RT Doug Free is cut loose, the Cowboys could make a run at Moore, who'd be a great add for their woeful interior line.

The New York Daily News reports free agent OG Brandon Moore left his Dolphins visit without a contract, and will now make trips to Detroit and Dallas.

Per reporter Manish Mehta, "all indications" are that Moore's Dolphins visit went well. That is, aside from the offer, we'd suppose. Moore was one of the top interior linemen in all of football last season, but teams will hesitate to give a multi-year deal to a player who is three months shy of his 33rd birthday.

ESPN New York reports free agent OG Brandon Moore is drawing interest from the Cowboys and Lions in addition to the Dolphins.

Moore visited the Dolphins on Wednesday, but it's unknown if he's lined up visits with either Dallas or Detroit. Moore is going on 33, but both teams need to upgrade their interior line. Moore was Pro Football Focus' No. 4 rated guard last season.

Free agent OG Brandon Moore is visiting the Dolphins on Wednesday.

The Dolphins are going to shop until they drop. A 16-game starter each of the past eight seasons, Moore would be replacing RG John Jerry with Richie Incognito entrenched at left guard.

ESPN Chicago reports the Bears have "explored" free agent OG Brandon Moore.

Going on 33, Moore said Thursday he's had "surprisingly" little contact with the Jets. He's likely moving on from Gang Green, and would be a strong addition for a Bears team that neglected offensive line play for most of the Lovie Smith era.

Free agent RG Brandon Moore says he's had "surprisingly" little contact with the Jets.

The Jets have a ton of holes, and they're rumored to not be interested in signing many of their own free agents. Moore is one of the top guards available after Andy Levitre and Louis Vasquez, but at 33 years old his main goal is to find a Super Bowl contender. The Jets are the NFL's furthest team from that.

ESPN New York says there's "little chance" impending free agents RG Brandon Moore and LG Matt Slauson return to the Jets.

Moore is in the top tier of free agent guards and should land a decent deal as a 32-year-old strong run-blocker. The Jets already have money tied up on the offensive line with LT D'Brickashaw Ferguson and C Nick Mangold. Slauson probably has a better chance of returning because he shouldn't command high dollar, but Vladimir Ducasse has been groomed to be his replacement.
