Saints TE Josh Hill suffered a broken fibula Week 13 against the Lions.
Hill also suffered an ankle injury, but it is not believed to be broken. It is a tough turn of events for a player who had been taking over the starting job in the last several weeks. With Hill out for the season, Coby Fleener should have steadier snap and route totals moving forward. In the first year of a three-year, $7.1 million deal, Hill will be back to compete for a role next season. Dec 5 - 12:18 PM

Saints TE Josh Hill was on crutches and in a walking boot after injuring his right ankle in Sunday's loss to the Lions.

Hill went down early, but was never formally ruled out. Instead he was slapped with a "questionable" tag despite needing crutches. Coach Sean Payton always lies about injuries. Hill has become a bigger part of the Saints' offense in recent weeks, but with just four games left, he could be headed to injured reserve if he has a high-ankle sprain.
Dec 4 - 4:51 PM

Saints TE Josh Hill (ankle) has been ruled out for Week 4.

It's a downgrade from last week, when Hill was listed as questionable. Coby Fleener is locked in as a mid-range TE1.
Sep 30 - 6:45 PM

Saints TE Josh Hill (ankle) didn't practice Wednesday.

It looks like he’ll miss another week. Michael Hoomanawanui will continue backing up Coby Fleener.
Sep 28 - 6:31 PM

Saints TE Josh Hill (ankle) is questionable for Week 3.

Hill made progress this week, but should miss his second straight game. Coby Fleener will continue to have an every-down role on Monday night.
Sep 24 - 4:41 PM

Saints TE Josh Hill (ankle) has been ruled out for Week 2.

Hill is week to week with a high-ankle sprain. His absence increases Coby Fleener's snaps.
Sep 16 - 7:21 PM

Saints TE Josh Hill (ankle) missed practice all week and is not expected to play in Week 2 against the Giants.

He has a high-ankle sprain. Hill isn't a fantasy factor by himself, but his absence ensures Coby Fleener will not be losing any playing time, and will also force the Saints to use more of Michael Thomas as a base three-receiver team, as opposed to one that could employ doses of two-tight end sets.
Sep 16 - 2:44 PM

Saints TE Josh Hill left Sunday's game with an ankle injury and did not return.

It's believed to be a high-ankle sprain, which will cost Hill multiple weeks. Hill went down early, before he was even targeted. Per Profootballtalk, the Saints are preparing to sign Jake Stoneburner, an indication they expect Hill to miss time. He'll undergo further testing and have his status updated Monday.
Sep 11 - 7:59 PM

Saints re-signed restricted free agent TE Josh Hill to a three-year contract.

New Orleans decided to match the Bears' offer sheet. The move is somewhat surprising considering how little cap room the Saints have. Hill carried some sleeper appeal last offseason after the Saints traded Jimmy Graham to Seattle but he was a non-factor in fantasy with just 16 catches for 120 yards and two touchdowns. Just as he was overshadowed by Benjamin Watson in 2015, Hill will take a backseat to former Colt Coby Fleener in 2016.
Mar 25 - 4:22 PM

Saints restricted free agent TE Josh Hill's three-year offer sheet with the Bears is worth a "maximum" of $7.5 million, and includes $3.25 million guaranteed.

It's a modest contract, but it will be hard to match for the Saints, who have just $1.3 million in cap space. They'd have to do some maneuvering to match Chicago's offer. Hill is a favorite of coach Sean Payton's, but Coby Fleener and Michael Hoomanawanui are a solid 1-2 punch for New Orleans at tight end. Hill will likely end up a Bear.

Bears signed restricted free agent TE Josh Hill to a three-year offer sheet.

The Saints have five days to match. The offer is worth "close" to $2 million per season. Hill was tendered at the original-round (undrafted) level, so they will receive no compensation if they decide to let Hill walk. Hill was a fantasy tease in 2015, but clearly remains an intriguing prospect in NFL circles. Going on 26, he can block, and has plus athleticism. Although the Bears re-signed Zach Miller, they need another competent tight end, as Miller has an ugly injury history and turns 32 later this year. GM Ryan Pace knows Hill from his time in New Orleans. The Saints have extremely little cap space, so keeping Hill could prove difficult.
Mar 22 - 4:52 PM

Restricted free agent TE Josh Hill visited the Bears on Monday.

He visited the Jets last week. Although Hill has just 36 catches across three NFL seasons, he is drawing interest because he can block, is not yet 26, and has a highly intriguing athletic profile. In Chicago, Hill could compete for snaps with Zach Miller, who is entering his age-32 season. Hill has a connection to the Bears, as GM Ryan Pace came from New Orleans' front office.
Mar 21 - 5:01 PM

Restricted free agent Saints TE Josh Hill visited the Jets on Thursday.

It's a bit of a surprise. Reports had Hill tendered at the original-round level ($1.67 million), and there's been no indication that's changed. The Jets have one of the league's weakest tight end corps, but Hill would still be little more than a depth piece if he signed an offer sheet and the Saints didn't match.
Mar 17 - 7:34 PM

Saints extended the original-round tender to restricted free agent TE Josh Hill.

It's the $1.67 million level. At least in theory, Hill is currently the Saints' No. 1 tight end after Ben Watson walked in free agency, but that should change some time between now and June's minicamp.
Mar 9 - 1:23 PM

Saints GM Mickey Loomis says the team still has high hopes for restricted free agent TE Josh Hill.

Hill was the presumed 2015 beneficiary of the Jimmy Graham trade. Instead, Ben Watson capitalized with a career year at age 34. "Josh Hill is a guy that’s been in our building a while now," Loomis said. "He’s kind of been in the background behind Jimmy Graham when he was here and Ben last year as well. He’s got a lot of talent. I know this, he’s a versatile tight end in that he can help us in the pass game and the run game." Coming off a 16-120-2 receiving line, Hill turns 26 this May. Watson's contract is up, but Hill's role for 2016 is uncertain.
