Free agent OLB Bryan Thomas is mulling retirement after offseason pectoral surgery also revealed a torn tendon in his shoulder.

"If I go now and sign for the vet minimum for one year, I wouldn’t even pass the physical right now," Thomas said. The soon-to-be 34-year-old 11-year veteran says he will make a decision on his future after next month's draft. Thomas wants to return to the Jets, but that's not in the cards.

Free agent LB Bryan Thomas has avoided jail time over October domestic violence and drug possession charges.

Thomas must complete 100 hours of community service, attend domestic violence counseling, pay $1,200 in fines and submit himself to drug and alcohol testing for the next 24 months. The 11-year veteran — who has spent his entire career with the Jets — notched 24 tackles and 2.5 sacks in 12 games last season. It's unclear if he'll be back in New York.

Jets LB Bryan Thomas was arrested back in October and charged with aggravated assault upon his wife and possession of painkillers and marijuana paraphernalia.

Thomas allegedly pushed his wife into a chair, punched her in the stomach, and grabbed her by the neck. Police also found a Havannah hookah, a pack of ZigZag rolling papers, a box of Phillies Blunt Cigars, and six small glass vials for marijuana in addition to an unlabeled bottle containing hydrocodone. As a first-time offender, Thomas has applied for a pre-trial intervention program to resolve the charges.

Impending free agent OLB Bryan Thomas told reporters after Sunday's Week 16 loss to the Chargers that he intends to keep playing in 2013.

Thomas, 33, is the Jets' longest-tenured player. "I never said I was contemplating retirement, why would I contemplate retirement when I’ve still got two games left?" said Thomas. "I'm not contemplating retirement." Thomas has been playing through a torn pectoral muscle. He earned $990,000 this year.

An MRI revealed a mere strain to Jets OLB Bryan Thomas' pectoral.

It's a sigh of relief for Thomas, who feared a full tear. The situational pass rusher is now listed as day to day.

Jets OLB Bryan Thomas sustained a possible torn pectoral during Sunday's Week 14 win over the Jaguars.

Thomas is headed for a Monday MRI to determine the extent of the damage. The pass-rushing specialist is fourth on the team with 2.5 sacks this season.

Jets re-signed OLB Bryan Thomas.

This was a planned move after Thomas — a vested veteran — was released on Saturday. Slowed by a hamstring issue early in the season, Thomas should see limited snaps as a pass-rushing specialist. A 33-year-old 11-year veteran, Thomas has dealt with a rash of major injuries in the past year.

The Jets are expected to re-sign OLB Bryan Thomas.

Thomas is already guaranteed his base salary, so his release was largely a procedural move. The Jets only had four active corners with Ellis Lankster (lower back) questionable for Sunday's game.

Jets released OLB Bryan Thomas.

It's a somewhat surprising move. Thomas had been dealing with a hamstring injury in the season's first two weeks and was listed as doubtful on the Week 3 injury report. He signed a one-year, $900,000 deal in March and was scheduled to be a free agent after the year. Thomas played in just four games in 2011, recording zero sacks. He was the longest tenured Jet on the roster. Aaron Maybin is in for an even bigger role on defense.

Jets OLB Bryan Thomas (Achilles surgery) is recovering from offseason shoulder surgery to repair a torn right labrum and biceps.

The torn labrum wasn't discovered until January, three months into Thomas' rehab from Achilles' surgery. Thomas estimates his labrum has been damaged for three years while his biceps has been torn for five years, leading to weakness in his upper arm. Considering the magnitude of his injuries, it's surprising that the Jets guaranteed the 33-year-old $590,000 on a one-year deal.

Jets re-signed OLB Bryan Thomas to a one-year contract.

Thomas can be an effective edge-setting outside linebacker when healthy, but he missed most of last season with a torn Achilles' tendon and turns 33 years old in June. We would be somewhat surprised if Thomas had any 2012 impact.

The Jets are reportedly considering re-signing free agent OLB Bryan Thomas (Achilles surgery).

Thomas missed the majority of last year, but expects to be ready to go by the start of the 2012 season. Turning 33 in June, Thomas is a poor bet to contribute significant snaps coming off a debilitating injury. The Jets should be aiming higher at outside linebacker.

Jets placed OLB Bryan Thomas on injured reserve with a torn Achilles' tendon, ending his season.

The Jets learned of Thomas' diagnosis on Monday, but waited until they had a corresponding roster move to make before officially ending his season. Undrafted free agent Eddie Jones will take his place on the roster. A 10-year veteran, Thomas last missed a game in 2004. His loss is a huge blow for an already struggling Jets' pass rush. Now 32 years old, a torn Achilles is going to be a daunting, if not impossible, injury for Thomas to return from. Jamaal Westerman and Aaron Maybin will likely alternate snaps in his absence for the time being. Thomas has 419 tackles and 31 sacks in 145 career games.

Jets OLB Bryan Thomas has been diagnosed with a torn Achilles' tendon, and is done for the season.

It's a potentially career-ending injury for the 10-year veteran, who hasn't missed a game since 2004. Thomas' loss is a big blow for a Jets defense that's failed to generate a consistent pass rush this season while also allowing an uncharacteristic 130.5 yards a week on the ground. Little used three-year veteran Jamaal Westerman should get the first crack at starting opposite Calvin Pace at outside linebacker. It's also possible Aaron Maybin, who notched his first career sack in his 27th game last evening, could see an increase in snaps.
