Rams re-signed restricted free agent RB Benny Cunningham to a one-year, $1.671 million contract.
It's the value of his original-pick tender. Cunningham visited the Patriots last month, but nothing came of it. The Rams had a ton of cap space at the time and were going to match any offer he received more than likely. Cunningham will return as Todd Gurley's breather back and a pass-pro specialist. The Patriots are hosting restricted free agent RB Benny Cunningham on Thursday.

A versatile role player with passing-down and special teams value, Cunningham is a Patriots-esque "do your job" kind of player. He has 71 receptions over the past two seasons and only three drops during that span. As Cunningham was originally undrafted and received the lowest-possible tender from the Rams, Los Angeles would receive no compensation if Cunningham signed an offer sheet from New England and the Rams failed to match.

Rams extended the original-pick tender to restricted free agent Benny Cunningham.

Cunningham is a core special teamer for the Rams, and seemingly beloved by the coaching staff. His third-down ability was a drain on Todd Gurley's 2015 receiving stats, and will remain concern for Gurley's 2016 PPR outlook.
Mar 9 - 2:21 PM

Benny Cunningham rushed four times for 38 yards and caught 3-of-3 targets for 34 yards in the Rams' Week 17 loss to San Francisco.

He finishes the season with 390 yards from scrimmage and 26 receptions. Although Cunningham has never been a legitimate fantasy asset, the Rams' odd love for him prevents other members of their backfield from hitting their ceilings. Also a contributor on special teams, Cunningham is an obvious Jeff Fisher favorite. He figures to get tendered in restricted free agency.
Jan 3 - 8:57 PM

Benny Cunningham (knee) is probable for Week 4 against the 49ers.

Cunningham didn't practice Friday with a knee issue. The probable tag means the Rams fully expect him to play. Cunningham will see limited third-down snaps behind Tre Mason and Todd Gurley.

Benny Cunningham caught 2-of-2 targets for 18 yards in St. Louis' Week 3 loss to the Steelers, adding a 12-yard rush.

Cunningham gained just one fewer yard than Tre Mason on seven fewer touches, but is now No. 3 on the depth chart with Todd Gurley ready to rock. Cunningham will catch the occasional pass, but is off the radar in all formats of fantasy.

Benny Cunningham caught four passes for 27 yards in the Rams' Week 2 loss to the Redskins, rushing one time for no gain.

With Tre Mason back from his hamstring injury, Cunningham took a backseat and headed back to his pass-game role in the Rams' backfield. He had one week of value, but can safely be dropped in redraft leagues, especially with Todd Gurley (knee) expected to make his Rams debut in Week 3 against the Steelers.

Benny Cunningham rushed for 45 yards on 16 carries and caught 4-of-7 targets for 77 yards in the Rams' Week 1 win over the Seahawks.

Cunningham got the spot start with both Todd Gurley (knee) and Tre Mason (hamstring) sitting out. His 122 total yards were more than serviceable, even if he struggled to a 2.8 YPC mark as a runner. Cunningham routinely turned Nick Foles dump-offs into big gains, spinning off tackles and finding the sticks. If Mason is unable to play Week 2, Cunningham will get all he can handle against the Redskins.

Benny Cunningham has a chance to be the Rams' every-down back in Week 1 versus the Seahawks.

The matchup is as brutal as St. Louis' offensive line, but Cunningham would be worth a look as a flex play based purely on projected volume. Todd Gurley (knee) has been ruled out, while Tre Mason (questionable, hamstring) did not practice at all this week. Cunningham should be owned in all fantasy leagues. Hamstring injuries like Mason's have a tendency to linger.

Benny Cunningham was held out of the Rams' preseason finale.

He was a healthy scratch. With Todd Gurley (ACL) not ready and Tre Mason (hamstring) in doubt for Week 1, there is a chance Cunningham will be the Rams' starter versus Seattle. The team's decision to hold Cunningham out of this game may suggest they are aware he could have a big Opening Day role.

Benny Cunningham rushed five times for five yards in Saturday's preseason game, adding two catches for an additional 32 yards.

Cunningham was thrust into bell-cow duties after Tre Mason injured his hamstring. He was ineffective between the tackles, but did some nice work as Nick Foles' safety valve in the passing game. Provided he sits out Thursday's finale, Cunningham finishes the preseason with 65 yards on 16 touches. Cunningham could begin the season as the Rams' third-down back if Todd Gurley (knee) isn't ready to go, but touches are going to be much scarcer than they were in 2014. Gurley and Tre Mason are going to dominate St. Louis' backfield.

Coach Jeff Fisher expects Benny Cunningham to be his third-down back again this season.

Even after Tre Mason seized feature back duties midway through last season, he ceded passing work to Cunningham. Benny finished with 45 catches for 532 yards and one touchdown. "He’s just really good out of the backfield. He’s probably the better protector of the three," Fisher said. The roles in St. Louis' backfield appear set as Zac Stacy will back up workhorse Mason and Cunningham will slide in on pass downs. Isaiah Pead, coming off a torn ACL, could be the odd man out.

Benny Cunningham rushed for 10 yards on four carries and caught 7-of-7 targets for 57 yards in the Rams' Week 17 loss to the Seahawks.

He also lost a fumble at the goal line, resulting in a touchback. Cunningham's season ends with 246 yards and three touchdowns on the ground on 66 totes (3.72 YPC) to go along with a 45-352-1 line through the air. Cunningham is purely a pass-down specialist for the Rams who excels in blitz pickup and as a pass catcher. That’ll be his role again in 2015, though that could change if Tre Mason improves that area of his game. Cunningham also plays special teams, so his roster spot is relatively safe as the No. 2.

Benny Cunningham rushed one time for negative-one yards and caught two passes for 19 yards in Sunday's Week 16 loss to the Giants.

Cunningham was the primary passing down back, but lost a few change-of-pace chances to Zac Stacy. He'll finish up the season at Seattle in Week 17.
Sun, Dec 21, 2014 08:09:00 PM

Benny Cunningham caught 3-of-4 targets for 23 yards in the Rams' Week 15 loss to the Cardinals, adding two rushes for four yards.

A fairly-standard day at the office for Cunningham. Rarely surpassing 5-6 touches, Cunningham won't be on the RB4 radar for Week 16 against the Giants.
