Vinny Testaverde will retire following Sunday's Panthers game.
"I have lived a dream and have gotten to leave the game on my own terms," he said. Testaverde played fairly well at age 44 considering he had no offseason, throwing five touchdowns with six interceptions. He led Carolina to a two victories in six outings. The first overall pick in 1987, Testeverde retires sixth in NFL history in passing yards, and eighth in passing touchdowns. He threw a touchdown in a record 21 consecutive seasons. Testaverde, now rookie Matt Moore's backup, expects the Achilles to be a problem until the offseason. Julius Peppers (knee) and SS Chris Harris (hip) also sat out practice and may not play Saturday against the Cowboys. The Panthers will likely only hold a walkthrough workout on Friday.

Undrafted rookie Matt Moore will start, with David Carr backing him up. Downgrade Steve Smith, if there's any room left for him to fall at this point. Dwayne Jarrett is active and should see plenty of snaps in place of Colbert.

John Clayton of ESPN reports that Vinny Testaverde is unlikely to start against the Steelers, suggesting that rookie Matt Moore will get the nod.

FOXSports.com reported earlier that Testaverde will start, so it comes down to who you trust more. Testaverde didn't practice all week, so it's very possible that he'll be unable to go.

Vinny Testaverde (probable, team decision) missed his third straight practice Friday. The Panthers' QB will be a game-time decision in Week 15.

For such an awful team, the Panthers have a lot of drama. If Testaverde can't start, undrafted rookie Matt Moore will be the man. All this makes Steve Smith a very shaky play, even in leagues that start three wide receivers.

Testaverde has been missing work on a "team decision," or because he's 44. The Rock Hill Herald believes that even if Testaverde starts against Seattle, Matt Moore will see extensive playing time. With a tough matchup and uncertainty at QB, Steve Smith is looking like a risky fantasy play.

Vinny Testaverde completed 13-of-28 passes for 84 yards and one interception in Week 14 against the Jaguars.

Testaverde's lone interception likely wasn't his fault, as DeShaun Foster appeared to run the wrong route on a ball that was thrown into the flat. However, he was horrible even aside from that and was yanked in favor of Matt Moore with the game out of reach late. Testaverde has another tough matchup against Seattle in Week 15, so you'll want to find a better QB2 option.
