Vinny Testaverde will retire following Sunday's Panthers game.
"I have lived a dream and have gotten to leave the game on my own terms," he said. Testaverde played fairly well at age 44 considering he had no offseason, throwing five touchdowns with six interceptions. He led Carolina to a two victories in six outings. The first overall pick in 1987, Testeverde retires sixth in NFL history in passing yards, and eighth in passing touchdowns. He threw a touchdown in a record 21 consecutive seasons. Vinny Testaverde (Achilles) is listed as probable for Week 17 despite missing Panthers practice on Friday.

He'll back up rookie Matt Moore in what could be the 44-year-old Testaverde's last game in the NFL, although we've thought that too many times before.

Vinny Testaverde (Achilles) missed Panthers practice Thursday.

Testaverde hasn't practiced since November 30, but should be ready for backup duty against the Bucs. Matt Moore will make his third straight start.

Vinny Testaverde (Achilles) missed Panthers practice Wednesday.

Testaverde didn't work last week, but was listed as probable for Saturday's loss and backed up starter Matt Moore. He'll likely do the same this week.

Vinny Testaverde (Achilles) is listed as probable for Saturday night.

Testaverde will back up Matt Moore in Moore's second NFL start. Julius Peppers (knee) is doubtful for the game. SS Chris Harris (hip) is probable.

Vinny Testaverde (Achilles) sat out Panthers practice Thursday.

Testaverde, now rookie Matt Moore's backup, expects the Achilles to be a problem until the offseason. Julius Peppers (knee) and SS Chris Harris (hip) also sat out practice and may not play Saturday against the Cowboys. The Panthers will likely only hold a walkthrough workout on Friday.

Vinny Testaverde returned to practice on Tuesday.

Coming off a win, Matt Moore is slated to start against the Cowboys in Week 16. Testaverde, who missed practice last week with what the Associated Press calls "general soreness", should be the number two QB this week.

Panthers declared QB Vinny Testaverde, LB James Anderson, LB Brandon Jamison, G Evan Mathis, DE Stanley McClover, T Frank Omiyale, WR Keary Colbert and DT Gary Gibson inactive for Week 15 against the Seahawks.

Undrafted rookie Matt Moore will start, with David Carr backing him up. Downgrade Steve Smith, if there's any room left for him to fall at this point. Dwayne Jarrett is active and should see plenty of snaps in place of Colbert.

John Clayton of ESPN reports that Vinny Testaverde is unlikely to start against the Steelers, suggesting that rookie Matt Moore will get the nod.

FOXSports.com reported earlier that Testaverde will start, so it comes down to who you trust more. Testaverde didn't practice all week, so it's very possible that he'll be unable to go.

Vinny Testaverde is expected to start for the Panthers Sunday, according to FoxSports.com.

He didn’t practice all week, but the Panthers don’t want to turn the team over to undrafted rookie Matt Moore yet. David Carr is persona non-grata. Steve Smith owners should expect more of the same.

Vinny Testaverde (probable, team decision) missed his third straight practice Friday. The Panthers' QB will be a game-time decision in Week 15.

For such an awful team, the Panthers have a lot of drama. If Testaverde can't start, undrafted rookie Matt Moore will be the man. All this makes Steve Smith a very shaky play, even in leagues that start three wide receivers.

Vinny Testaverde missed his second straight practice Thursday.

Testaverde has been missing work on a "team decision," or because he's 44. The Rock Hill Herald believes that even if Testaverde starts against Seattle, Matt Moore will see extensive playing time. With a tough matchup and uncertainty at QB, Steve Smith is looking like a risky fantasy play.
Thu, Dec 13, 2007 01:23:00 PM

Panthers coach John Fox was non-committal about whether Vinny Testaverde would start Sunday.

When asked about who his quarterback will be, Fox responded, "We'll evaluate that as the week goes on." Matt Moore would likely start if Vinny doesn't, as Fox has avoided starting David Carr home this season.

Vinny Testaverde was given Wednesday's practice off to rest.

No injury was reported, but the Rock Hill Herald speculates that Carolina might end up needing rookie Matt Moore Sunday against the Seahawks.

Vinny Testaverde completed 13-of-28 passes for 84 yards and one interception in Week 14 against the Jaguars.

Testaverde's lone interception likely wasn't his fault, as DeShaun Foster appeared to run the wrong route on a ball that was thrown into the flat. However, he was horrible even aside from that and was yanked in favor of Matt Moore with the game out of reach late. Testaverde has another tough matchup against Seattle in Week 15, so you'll want to find a better QB2 option.
